To get the whole experience yes it's a must watch. Didn't appreciate them when I was younger but as I have gotten a lot older I can see the unbelievable talent from all the members.
This, right here! This is the very beginning of perhaps the best concert film ever made! It builds and builds and builds until eventually that entire stage is filled. Don't deny yourself the chance to see it. Seriously!
One of the greatest concert films ever. Directed by Jonathan Demme who also directed Silence of the Lambs. This is the first song and the band just keeps getting bigger and bigger. You guys should just keep going with this if you can. You won’t be disappointed.
All I can say about this film is I don't understand how a human body could possibly survive the amount of cocaine required for David to get through thus show!
Core band: David Byrne-singer/front man, Tina Weymouth-base, Chris Frantz-drums, and Jerry Harrison-keys, guitar. On the tour in the movie, they had a second guitarist-Alex Weir, percussionist-Steve Scales, an additional keyboardist-Bernie Worrell, and backup singers Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt. Simply the best concert film I have ever seen. I strongly recommend it. A rough translation of the verse that's in French: It's what I did tonight. It's what she said tonight. Realizing my dream, I hurl myself at glory. I know you didn't ask for a translation but thought it might be helpful. Good show, guys. Check out that film! You won't regret it.
Oh, man, you haven't checked out Talking Heads before?! You're in for a treat! The band has a huge theatrical funky-punk sound from the 70--80s. I strongly suggest listening to Life During Wartime from the
You just have to keep watching, and I promise it’ll stop making sense, which will make total sense. You are right that David Byrne is wired a bit differently than most.
You need to watch this film - Stop Making Sense - in its entirety, lads. One of the best concert films ever made and a very good introduction to the band, imo.
Talking Heads is four people. They have some additional musicians on this tour including funk kegend Bernie Worrell(Parliament/Funkadelic). This is one of the best concert films ever made.
Talking Heads are top notch. This live concert is a must watch, start to finish. You will better understand where we were at in the 80s... great music.
yeah, you have to watch this movie. Joyous, pure joy. One of greatest concert films ever, Jonathan Demme directed it I think. So good. You have to see it.
David Byrne is a genius... absolutely loved this version and the studio version. Thanks for the reaction, very entertaining. Can't wait for you to get back to this band❤
Stop Making Sense is a documentary film made by Jonathan Demme, the director who did Silence of the Lambs. It's considered one of the best ever made. The first 5 or so songs a new piece of equipment and band member joins the production until the band is complete. It's an absolutely amazing piece of film making and a stunning concert. Highly recommended.
When my kids were little and it was -30C, I would put on the Talking Head’s movie ‘Stop Making Sense’, put the old mattress in front of the TV in the basement and they would bounce for about 1.5 hours solid. Saved my sanity many times!
Saw this film in 1984 in a theater in Baltimore. When they played Slippery People everyone was up out of their seats and dancing. I close my eyes and remember that night and smile a real big smile.
Yes! Please react to the whole concert “Stop Making Sense” so damn good! The back up singers, percussion, and bass with the lead singer David Byrne are amazing. Thanks guys, love your reactions!
Tell La & Che that we, the barbarians, are taking up our torches and pitchforks as we speak, and that if they don't do a whole concert react, we will soon be at their gate.
So glad you started with the opening number. If you can’t the watch the entire film in one sitting, PLEASE watch the songs in the order they were performed. I saw this tour - hands down the best concert I’ve ever seen.
You are watching the first song from a concert film called Stop Making Sense, by The Talking Heads. It is from 1984, The band starts building after the first song. Arguably, one of the greatest concerts film of all time. You could do a whole reaction from this film. At a minimum, you should listen to, Life During Wartime, Letting the Days Go By, and the cover of Al Greens Take Me to the River. 2:23
Everyone will say this but this whole concert is ridiculous. Just amazing. Band members come on one at a time. You see bassist Tina Weymouth come on at the end. After the second song, the energy never stops. Just react to the whole thing.
T-Heads were an amazing and Innovative band to come out of the late 70s on the East Coast scene, I think this is by like 1981 or 82, and it's the opening of this huge concert series and also a movie that was just made of the live concert footage call Stop Making Sense which was also the title of an album. He starts it off but you should see what they assemble by the time this thing really gets rolling. It's one of the greatest concert movies ever. And the Talking Heads influenced so much music going forwar; it's amazing.
As the show goes on , various members join David Byrne on stage. I got to see the band perform live by chance. A group of my friends and I drove to the campus of SUNY (State University of New York) old Westbury on Long Island in N.Y. We heard that they had had live music in the bar on campus. When we arrived, we saw a banner on the back wall of the stage that read”The Bonnie Parker Band”. When the band took the stage they had a female bassist whom we all assumed was Bonnie Parker, since that was the name on the wall. We really enjoyed the show, and how can you beat an entrance fee of $5.00 apiece. It wasn’t until the next day at school that I saw an article in the local newspaper that The Talking Heads had performed a previously unannounced show the previous evening on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury. We were very lucky as shortly thereafter The Talking Heads achieved recognition internationally. I felt very fortunate to have seen them and for a reasonable ticket fee of $5.00. They were a very talented band and put on a great show.
That’s from the live concert film Stop Making Sense, which is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) concert films of all time. You should either react to the full film or react to specific songs from it. All of which are as good as or better than the studio versions (exception being ‘Take Me To The River’). Check out songs ‘Life During Wartime’, ‘Burning Down The House’, ‘Slippery People’, ‘Once In A Lifetime’, ‘Girlfriend Is Better’.
As others have said - you would LOVE this concert film - directed by Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) - it should be seen in order for the full effect. one of THE greatest concert films of all time. Incredible stuff - band includes some former members of Parliament- Funkadelic Collective (Bernie Worrell) - and just outstanding.
I never was into concert films but when that soundtrack came out I thought that's the greatest thing at the moment, I have to see the movie. And yes, that's art, not a simple concert movie! Go for it
I saw this film in the theaters in 1986. They were running a promotion: anyone wearing a “Big Suit” (check it out from later in the movie) would get in for free. I grabbed my Dad’s suit jacket and tried to look as small as possible (my Dad wasn’t much bigger than me), and they let me in. One of the best nights ever; the whole theater was out of their seats dancing.
Try watching this when they play it on a show where many bands played called " The Old Grey Whistle Test ". You can see : Clapton - Bob Marley and many more.
Filmed over three shows - first from Back of hall, second from Stage Left only and the third last concert from Stage Right only. Cameras filming rarely seen. Genius! Also, performance taken from *Most Rented VHS* movie of entire 80s decade. All movie theatres couldn't sell upper balcony seat tickets due to fears of collapsing from audience participation (bouncing)
David Byrne is an incredibly talented person. As you go through some of their songs, you'll see crazy dance moves, choreography, weird lyrics, etc. That is all him. He is the genius behind The Talking Heads. This was one of their earliest songs. I remember hearing it in high school and loving it while my family and friends thought I was wierd. They all soon caught on, though : )
David Byrne continues to be a musical and artistic genius to this day. His latest concert/musical/play on Broadway, American Utopia, is beautiful and amazing. It was filmed and it’s wonderful to see how he has developed over the past 40 years.
If you guys have the time and inclination could I suggest you check out the live performance of this song on The BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test from 1977, readily available on youtube which is what I consider the definitive performance of Psycho Killer. Great reaction as always.
I heard him say in an interview that this was the second song he ever wrote. That absolutely floored me, talk about hitting a grand slam in your first at-bat.
Summer job, NYC 1977, walking distance to CBGBs where the Talking Heads played. My roommate was a huge fan and played their albums nonstop. Unfortunately I was clueless and never saw them live, but I sure remember this track, having heard it over and over. About five years ago, the R&R Hall of Fame recreated the CBGBs door and facade as a museum exhibit.

NY club cbgbs , talking heads, ramones, blondie, New York dolls, Patti Smith and others. Old grey whistle test version of this is incredible. Great reaction lads ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
That was so fun, thanks! It's hard to pick a starting point for Talking Heads, and as great as this clip is, it's not the best introduction as you aren't seeing the group as a whole. They started in 1975 as a 4 piece outfit writing and playing with a New Wave Minimalist feel. Over the years they morphed into an amazingly funky bunch, which is what you'll see if you check out the whole 1984 "Stop Making Sense" film of their 1982-83 touring set where this "Psycho Killer" comes from. I was a casual fan until seeing them live 42 years ago this week. After which I became a true believer in all of their output, and join the many commentors who suggest you two keep going further in your exploration of one of the, if not the, greatest bands of the 80's.
You guys need to watch this entire show. Starts with lead singer and adds a band member for each song. Great live show. Bass player is fire.
To get the whole experience yes it's a must watch. Didn't appreciate them when I was younger but as I have gotten a lot older I can see the unbelievable talent from all the members.
You have to watch the entire move stop making sense ! It’s amazing and won awards. Best music move for me of all time.
Great movie!
I concur, the gradual increase of people on stage is part of the fun. It has to be watched from start to finish in order.
Tina!
This concert-film is great - saw it at the cinema last year!
You get the message by now. One of the greatest concert movies of all time. MUST WATCH.
This, right here! This is the very beginning of perhaps the best concert film ever made! It builds and builds and builds until eventually that entire stage is filled. Don't deny yourself the chance to see it.

In fact, he is known for that.
Never underestimate art school graduates…
Did they graduate? For some reason, I thought they dropped out.
Wait, maybe that was me.

Saw this in a theater. IT WAS FRIGGIN AWESOME! I loved the Talking Heads back in the day.
I was in jr. High when I saw it in the theater, with 3 of my friends. We immediately started a band. Great times
Same. It was awesome.
Next, watch "Life During Wartime" from that same movie, "Stop Making Sense".
this is a must watch and shows the progression of this particular concert. you will be amazed!
Life During Wartime is AMAZING live.

Talking Heads are the collision of art form and rock and roll. There are pretty much just two camps. You’re in, or you’re out. Count me way in.
Still in 👋
@@loupi4bama All in.
The 1984 film was directed by renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme and is considered by critics as the greatest concert film of all time.
Except for "The Last Waltz" directed by Martin Scorcese. And the music was epic in "The Last Waltz" with an all-star lineup.
I like the Last Waltz but Stop Making Sense is a far better film. David Byrne is great.
Stop making sense is far more innovative movie than the last waltz
And they paid for it themselves.
@@gregcable3250 A two-way tie. Followed by the shorter Queen set at Live Aid.

The whole band went to the Rhode Island school of art and design,so their performances are artistic with music! Groundbreaking at the time!
