David Byrne's "Look into the Eyeball" is fantastically mature, I've listened to it more than any other album since 2000. It's so gooood. Saw that tour 3 times.
The Stop Making Sense Documentary is one of the best concert films ever made. They’ve expanded the band with a couple of terrific funk musicians and a pair of wonderful backup singers. It really is worth checking out these songs from those live performances.
This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) is one of the most satisfying songs of all time to me. They are truly one of the most important bands ever. Their concert movie "Stop Making Sense" is a damn work of art. Starts with a boombox and acoustic guitar. Then blossoms seamlessly into the full band plus all the extra musicians and backing singers... including none other than the amazing Bernie Worrell on keys from P-Funk.
Norman Bates was loosely based on Ed Gein. That's a rabbit hole that's just crazy and inspired so many moves (Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of 1000 Corpses, etc.) and songs. If you want a quirky song about like you talk about at the end... Blind Melon's "Skinned"... WOW. Such a twisted song. But it's so upbeat and quirky. Plus it's got a Kazoo solo. Yeah... it's the band that did "No Rain" with the Bee Girl. But Skinned is from their album "SOUP"... which is the most underrated album of the 90s in my opinion. It wasn't a big album because Shannon Hoon, the singer, died a few weeks after it was released.
Just imagine New York in this time. A heat wave, punk is just really coming into pop culture, there’s a black out, and some psychopath is running around the Burroughs shooting people in the head.
Talking Heads, Radiohead, REM all bands that formed or met in art school/college and for all of them it shows in the creativity and diversity of their music.
You guys have to check out Girlfriend is Better from Stop Making Sense. It's one of my favorite Talking Heads songs and that live version has so much more energy than the studio version.
Their live film "Stop Making Sense" will make you appreciate them even more, its great. But i think "This Must Be The Place" or "Burning Down The House" for next song reaction by them!
This band gives me such a visceral reaction of pure emotion and I can't really explain why. A band that truly means the world to me. Idk much about the reaction game but this early album stuff is better live. The band is pretty tight musically and I think it is a genuine disservice to them to put all the "charm" on David Byrne. You're missing on some excellent bass lines, pretty tight and rhythmic riffing. And again live these guys were jamming.
Talking Heads is a band the more you listen to them, the more your appreciation of not just of the band here, but other music as well. They are such a such diverse creative band that did a lot of excellent music
I believe David Byrne said this is the first song he ever wrote. They have a lot of good, fun songs. Some of the more well known radio played ones you haven't covered are Road to Nowhere and Burning Down the House.
Talking Heads were amazing live. I saw them at Forest hills Stadium in 1983, Black Uhuru opened as I recall, one of the best concerts I ever saw. Such good times!
I just dont understand people who dont like The Talking Heads. Just the shit! They were so different and talented. They had a way of keeping your attention at all times..thats talent baby!!!
Completely agree. My Mom, who grew up on Elvis and Motown, loved them. She said she didn't "get them" but who cares, they're great. I am lucky to have a sister 4 years older than me who had great taste in music and I would constantly steal her albums. In '77, I was the only 9 year old singing PsychoKiller in my class 😂
They need to react to more of Talking Heads, THE GREAT CURVE, GUYS!! If you get to more of these guys you'll LOVE them. Anything off of Remain In Light. They have SO many amazing songs.
6:30 I saw once a music studio here in Brazil that put a sign on the wall forbidding people to play Psycho Killer🤣 People really like that song and starters bands plays it a lot
The Heads really found their sound and became the tightest live band in the world when they were joined by Bernie Worrell (P-Funk co-founder), Alex Weir (Brothers Johnson guitarist/composer), Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt (P-Funk- She-Funk) and percussionist Steve Scales. Thank you for letting us share this adventure with you.

I have this song on my driving/road trip playlist. 😊 (I also have it on a couple of my *'background music'* playlists for when reading, or working around the house)😎 And a buddy has this and a bunch of other Talking Heads songs, on his workout play lists.

Man, I'd LOVE to see your reaction to "Girlfriend Is Better" from Stop Making Sense. Also: "Who else in 1977 was doing this?" The answer is Nobody. Talking Heads are one of those truly groundbreaking bands in music history.
for some reason. maybe because of where they started, that they fit in with the 1970's PUNK MOVEMENT of New York, with Blonde, The Ramones, Patti Smith, Dead Boys Etc....They were big at the time !!!
Both of your reactions were accurate to what was felt back when this was big. Ryan laughing is like a lot of us. It's just strange, but dammit it's catchy. I'll listen when it's on and yell the chorus in the car.
Please do a double listen to their cover of "Take Me to the River" from their album and then the live version of it on their 'Stop Making Sense' tour. This year is the 40th anniversary of the tour :)
Haven’t finished the video yet, but right off the bat the boys are laughing hysterically. Makes me nervous about their final verdict on one of my favorite bands. But then again that’s why I love this channel. Real honest reactions from two guys that love music and are open to being surprised.
After listening to this I realized a kind of similar band that you guys would have fun reacting to is The Violent Femmes - "Gimme the Car", "Add it Up", "Kiss Off" would all be great songs
Talking Head usually run hot or cold with people, so I always love when anyone's willing to give them an open mind. One of my favorite bands, with Byrne being one of my favorite musicians in general.
They were performing this song in 76 the first time I saw them, a full year before Son of Sam, & I’m pretty sure the song was even older than when I saw them.
College. 1983. A parking lot quad between 3 bluestone buildings. The boys in the coed dorm would blast "Burning Down the House" followed by "Psycho Killer" from their dorm window at 9am every Saturday. It's a formative memory for me.
Talking Heads, I actually got to meet David Byrne in the late '80s and get his autograph outside the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA. Just west of Philly. Not as tall as you would think in person but his skin was practically translucent. I wasn't planning on getting his autograph. But I had a dream that I met him on a SEPTA bus at 2nd and Market in Philly and ended up sitting next to him having a casual chat. In the dream I sharly asked him for his autograph and he gave it to me. Later, I got the tickets to the show in upper Darby. It was during what is best described as his Latin Phase. Precognitive dream . Weird, huh? Not so much for this mystic, mind reading Pisces. LOL! All the songs suggested here are great ones. Especially Burning Down the House. If you like Bates Motel you gotta check out that movie. Even more terrifying, and a fact that many people do not know is that that movie was adapted from a book titled Psycho, by Robert Bloch. Based on a true story about a serial killer that rivaled even Dahmer's weirdness, Ed Gein. In case you didn't guess, I am a horror and true crime fan. PPPS- Hey Ryan, I don't care what they say about you, you a'ight. That's how we compliment someone in South Philly. 😘
I know a lot of Talking Heads fan who would disagree with me.. but this studio version is pretty rough.. For newbies trying to get into Talking Heads and the entire music scene they represent it's best to start with the Stop Making Sense live movie.. The performance of this song in that movie blows this away.. twice the confidence in the vocal and the visual representation of the performance makes the whole thing soar.. Sorry Talking Heads fans but I'm gonna say it.. F the 'amazing bass line'. Everything about this song is done better in Stop Making Sense. Ryan and George need to just hit play on the movie STOP MAKING SENSE. it is one of our most popular reactions on our channel for a reason.
@@Fawkes318 No one can unsee that performance of Life During Wartime. Once they see it they will remember it forever. To this day it is the only music video I have ever seen my dad actually sit up and go 'hell yeah this is amazing'. He has never cared about music at all.
This version was just 4 musicians (who were just starting out) and the Stop Making Sense live version has like 9 people on stage. 2 drummers, 2 bass players, backup singers, etc. Comparing them is like apples and oranges.
Stop Making Sense is a Talking Heads concert movie directed by Jonathan Demme. It starts with this song with the lead singer on a guitar all by himself, and rest of the band come in one by one during the course of the song. Strongly recommended!

Anytime I see anything with Talking Heads, I'm in! Love your reaction to this. My opinion, of course, is that they are the greatest band ever!!! "Heaven" "This Must Be the Place" "Road to Nowhere" - AMAZING stuff there.
A few other great tracks from Talking Heads: 77 are "Pulled Up", "Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town", and "The Book I Read". And for related acts from the seventies also check out The Modern Lovers "Roadrunner", Television "Marquee Moon", and Blondie "I Know but I Don't Know" or "Pretty Baby".

Way back in the day Talkin Heads came to town, and because nothing much was going on David Byrne ended up on the national news being interviewed about the tour. He couldn't string 2 words together he was sooo wasted. But 4 hours later put on a great show to rave reviews. Crazy times! 🤣🤣🤣
Oh my been away from the channel for a spell and been surfing your reactions . As awesome as ever,p. Needed cheering up today and you give big smiles . Thank you 🙏💚💙

Byrne’s performance for this song in Stop Making Sense is magical.

Honestly that entire recording is pretty magical. Byrne has an energy that I've never seen anyone else match.

Ok, I'll see myself out, now. 😊
"Fingers in the ranch sauce." LOL. I wouldn't want my finger food to be so literal.
A Scotsman in New York - David Byrne.
They were everywhere in UK in the late '70s, early '80s.
Way back in the day Talkin Heads came to town, and because nothing much was going on David Byrne ended up on the national news being interviewed about the tour. He couldn't string 2 words together he was sooo wasted. But 4 hours later put on a great show to rave reviews. Crazy times! 🤣🤣🤣
This song has popped off in so many movies and TV shows lately.
Also, I love David's lines in this one: you're talking a lot but not saying anything.
Crosseyed and Painless. Nothing But Flowers, Life During Wartime, & Wild, Wild Life
Oh my been away from the channel for a spell and been surfing your reactions . As awesome as ever,p. Needed cheering up today and you give big smiles . Thank you 🙏💚💙
I love this song. Reminds me of my son. He’s awesome.
I wish I knew what he was saying in the bridge when he was speaking French! And then the line after , “I hate people when they’re not polite “ 😂🤣
The source for ALL THE BEST Talking Heads performances is the “Stop Making Sense” video. 💯
One of the best songs to hear starting up in a tv show or movie like ah hell shits about to get real.
