For the patch I use i kept my portamento at 10 and Vibrato between 64-65. Gives you that DX100 vibe. I think my vibrato was set at 64 when I had my MicroKorg.
Using a Kork MicroKork synth and a TalkStar talkbox. A mic is only needed to record the sound of the talkbox from your mouth, or amplify it for a live stage performance, just like a human voice.
Im having trouble at 3:32 , when i change it to square wave or even Triangle, it makes the patch all of sudden sound completely different but saw wave sounds exactly how it sounds on the video, I follow the steps everytime and I cant get the same sound at the end of the video. I rewrite the patch just as the video tells you. I use an mxr talkbox idk if that has anything to do with it. Please help anyone
Every talkbox will sound different, especially comparing to a TalkStar. The TalkStar has a "tone" and "edge" knob that does change the talkbox sound. If selecting saw wave sounded the same as this video, you can save your patch as a saw wave and hopefully use that. @@ifunk4ucgb You can use a synth with a less expensive self-powered talkbox like the MXR or Banshee, and it's not a bad place to start out. BUT there is nothing close to the sound of the TalkStar. The reason it is more expensive is the quality and power of the components (among other features). It's like asking "why is a Moog synth $1500-$4000 when you can get a Korg or Novation synth for $400?" The TalkStar was engineered meticulously for use with a synth, whereas the other self-powered (less expensive) talkboxes are merely guitar pedals. Hope that clarifies things!!

@rap heaven Want to admit, that i'm not a "nigga", sir. And you spelled the word "weird" incorrectly my dear. And i didn't even start to talk about the fact, that if you would go, and search "Roger Troutman I Want to Be Your Mom genre" you'll see, my dear, that the genre of this piece is rap/hip-hop, and if you would go and just search a little further than that, to the page of wikipedia you will probablly see, that the genre is R&B - which i believe is the real genre by judging the atmosphere and slowness of this piece, so may i admit that you you are completely wrong in every sentence you have said, darling.
This has nothing to do with the vocoder, we are using the MicroKorg with a TalkStar talkbox. These are two very different things, they just both sound kind of robotic.

No mic was used in this video, it's all coming from the talkbox (my mouth to be exact) and picked up by the camera mic. When recording, a great mic for talkbox is the Shure SM7B paired with a Cloud Lifter - THE best!!!
I recently bouhgt a talkstar and i Sony kmow how to make It sound through the PA. I put a Jack from the L output of my microkorg to the input of the talkstar, snd another Jack from the through (talkstar) to the mixer. It only sounds in the tube. Can anyone help me?
If you want to take advantage of the PEDAL/THRU mode feature of your TalkStar, you will need a momentary foot pedal (non-latching) WITH a polarity switch. If it does not have a polarity switch, there is a chance it will not work,if you connect a foot pedal to your TalkStar When you connect a foot pedal to the PEDAL input on your TalkStar, it should turn off the blue lights on the driver and turn on a small red LED inside the unit. This will give you a visual cue that it is in THRU mode, by-passing the talkbox amp and driver and letting the sound from your synthesizer play directly out of the THRU jack. This would allow you to play another sound from your synth during a live show! If it does not work like described above, then the polarity is wrong and you need to just switch the polarity on the pedal. For some reason i thought the talkbox was a mic, not a tiny speaker going through the tube that you shape the sound back into the mic. Now it makes more sense.
Hi- thank you for this. I have the MXR222 and this keyboard/Synth. Question: can you do that patch on any option, like techno- is there a way to save the patch your are overwriting?
I'm sorry, the yamaha PSR-E373 is not an ideal keyboard for talkbox and has very limited ability to program a custom patch. Consider a synth like this MicroKorg or the Novation MiniNova for a great talkbox tone.
