Reminds me of myself in the basement with a loop pedal and my 6 string bass. Just kept looping layers upon layers, changing effects and tone, then sitting back and letting it play.
Sounds awesome. I've been wanting to get a loop pedal for ages now, just so I can do stuff like this live : D
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial Highly recommend the Ditto x4 Looper! I loved being able to save a loop, take it to a show, and recall it and manipulate it. Definitely a few intros/outros done this way
6 string basses are magic
That sounds more like a BASSment
Same! I used to do this all the time. Loop pedals are insanely fun
This procedurally generated music is getting more realistic by the day. Great stuff!
Hahaha, thanks a lot : D
Wdym procedurally generated?
@@6stringshredder you have the components that form the song and procedurally place them together building the song from a set of rules and orders of operation which results in a rich landscape of sound from independent notes/progressions/etc, rather than playing all the components together to form the whole simultaneously, it follows a set of processes that combine together following a formula which results in an outcome that produces a meaningful song
@joshuacadebarber8992 so... live looping is procedural music? I never thought of it that way.
AI has really come a long way. I couldn’t tell this wasn’t a real Dennis
"I just kept adding layers" *writes an Invent Animate song*
This
Make an album of chill metal like this, I'll buy it. 🔥
Listen to Olympus Lenticular.
@@ClandestineMerkaba I'll have you know, you just made a new Olympus Lenticular fan, SOLID recco
Imagine the orchestras in the future which consist mostly of amplified guitars playing music like this in the concert halls!
that's some sick ass stuff, i'd be down to play that 100%
Sounds like post rock! Great genre!
@@ClandestineMerkaba holy sht I will get so much stuff done with this on my ears. Great tip, thanks
This sounds like it would be a interlude on a Invent Animate album.
Don't know what that is bruv
Tesseract.
this sounds like a song at the end of a game with a really long story and the story sort of ends in a sad way which is why the song is calm at the start but slowly intensifies
risk of rain 2
Deus Ex Mankind Divided
No Man's Sky
Now we just have to wait for Tim Henson to play all 8 takes in a single take.
This would be insane as a pre-chorus/chorus or a bridge in a metalcore song
Even without adding a huge amount of layers, this is what I love about creating music. Experiencing how a song evolves with every new layer, how it really comes to life. You gave this song life for 100 years and more!
Dude, this is poetry and it doesn't even needs spoken words, the guitar is singing so beautifully that there's a lot of emotion in it.
Please upload that to Spotify, that perfect chill out metal. Better, do a whole album 😂😍
Haha, the song will probably be on my next "Archives" EP, so it will be on Spotify sometime in the future! : D
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial definitively going into the favourites, thank you!
Sounds like post rock! Great genre!
I do this all the time. It's one of my favorite ways to jam by myself. I come up with a part and put it on loop until I come up with something interesting to play over the top of it. I then record that and do the process again. I keep going until I can't find anything cool to add. My basic rule for doing it is I try to add parts with contrasting rhythms, distinct tones, or in different areas of the fretboard. Once I feel like there's no "space" left, I stop.
I mean, the title nailed it. You kept adding layers, and it kept working. Fantastic.
The definition of the "post-rock" genre. Sounds great man!
This is how I like to write, vertical arrangement, I get stuck on horizontal tho trying to figure out where to go. But I find it much more exciting and enjoyable when I get to just build up on a section
literally how all my songs are written. "I Just Kept Adding Layers And It Kept Working"
I especially like the guitar that sounded like a drum
This sounds a lot like Sleep Token and I love it 😍
Taking that as a BIG compliment, love them! : D
Was thinking the same
The first half before the song completely kicks in reminds me a lot of Alcest! Nice!
I am not sure how much RUclips is already able to read minds. But I was just searching for something to inspire me. And this reminded me again: keep it simple. Now I am working on a new track. Also: really beautiful song! I will watch this everytime I feel I am all out of new ideas.
You find what you focus on
Getting some If These Trees Could Talk vibes from this.
Of course it's gonna freaking work, if you're a damn genius at it.
Beautiful musicianship, this inspired me to get back on the grind with my humble six string and my looper, cheers!
You highlight what I rarely hear in music. Multiple layers. It was done in classical music a lot but not enough in modern music. Thanks
have a look thru some dreampop n shoegaze layers is their thing
the title alone adequately sums up my entire songwriting experience LOL
These progressions and etc reminds me of some kind of mixture between Clint Mansell's "Moon" and Cloudkicker's works.
Which Cloudkickers stuff? Let Yourself Be Huge or a different album?
@@bobisadrummer I'm not sure, because I haven't listened in a long long time and does not have my music library close enough. It is something near "Beacons", i think. Idk why, but "let yourself be huge" did not stucked in my mind as hard like another albums from "the map is not the territory", "portmanteau" to "fade". Anyway, it is close to that legendary Cloudkicker's time around 2008-2012.
Basically how video game music works, the same instrument stacked ontop of itself many times to create a lot of sound depth and variation, it's super interesting how we can blend sounds, and is a great way to note that not every instrument Needs to sound distinct in a piece, that it is allowed to blend together and create a new sound rather than separate ones working together.
Explosions In The Sky / 65daysofstatics vibes. Awesome
Wow, this has some character to it I found in some of my favourite video game composers for some reason. It has a lot of Old School David Wise flair to it, particularly his work on Donkey Kong Country with these melanchonic soaring tones.
The Halfstep reminded me a lot on how Toby Fox writes dramatic songs often.
Either way, this is brilliant.
Ofc. I hope it goes without saying, I mentioned all this without wanting to take anything away from this composition. It stands on it's own 2 feet, without mention. Simply trying to analyze what really stood out to me in a way.
I like you you can look at any section and know exactly what sound it's playing
Thank you for making this. Was an absolute delight to listen to
Love it mate, excellent work 🥳
Brilliant idea, even better execution. YES/10
This is literally just every third wave post-rock song ever created, and people are out here in the comments like "YOU JUST INVENTED CHILL METAL!??" There are hundreds of third-wave post rock bands just like this, layering guitar just like this.
go back to /mu/
1:39 was such an undertale soundtrack type move, sick
I would unironically listen to this in the car to and fro work
Damn, sounds like the building intro to a super heavy song, my gosh, like black metal or something. Also giving me Underoath vibes. Might have to try this sometime
Sounds cool. Comment for the algorithm.
Thanks!
sounded nostalgic to me as it reminds me of 2000s band like puddle of mud, creed etc
David Maxim Micic called, he wants his tone back. :)
Damn this is like the best Post-Rock sounding video ever
Sounds like 80's King Crimson. They made a genre of music named Gamelan which basically consinsts in overlapping simple rythmic patterns to create a distinctive sound. Really nice!
Made?
@@Lewisl4d2 played*
Don't tell this guy what polyrhythmic music mainly featuring idiophone instruments from Indonesia and Malaysia is called. Although the inspiration there in building textures or a wall of sound experience may be related.
@@pauljs75 I know King Crimson didn't invent Gamelan. My finger just slipped there and typed made instead of played. Plus english is not my first language sooooo. Yeah
In essence, this is just how music is made in general lmao. Just keep adding elements till it’s all good.
Dope layering! Awesome arrangement
That is a fantastic piece of music, hats off
Thanks a lot!
The drummer on this track is phenomenal :)
the drums are probably programmed lol
@@microsoftpain they are, my comment was ironic :)
I had a dream last night that felt like this sounds!! Epic shit bro! good work
This reminds me of Tangerine Dream. Some of the music they did on the “Risky Business” movie soundtrack
I need to start writing music with this method. Thank you for the inspiration
This entire thing was Phil Spector's mantra of "Wall of sound"
Lots of layers on guitar sounds really cool in a really unique way. It sounds like there's a perfectly tuned, panning feedback loop of guitar notes. There's not really a melody, but that's not a bad thing. Incredible sound. Great work.
The first 11s sounded like the payday 2 theme and I got flashbacks of cloakers scaring the ever living hell out of me. The rest is good stuff. Good job.
Reminds me of the Mandalorian theme song. It's layered over several instruments as well and some melodies flow through the layers. Which makes it so intense.
it sounds beautiful dude, should make it into a nice long epic progressive song.
Dude that was sick! Hats off!
I'ma need more of this
Now I want to see a beast playing this all at once
Nice song.
Almost a shame that I only found it 'cause, you know, I can't *not* watch a video that randomly shows up in my feed by somebody who looks to be descended from several pine martens :D
Slice The Cake writing their songs be like :
Jokes aside great video, I loved it
this very compelling. Thanks man
Great tone and musicality!
Feels like a contemporary take on the sound of Explosions In The Sky. Very nicely done on carving out a cool sound for yourself!
*The Dark Pool-era Thornhill has joined the chat*
Cool stuff right here man sounds awesome
What s the closest thing to Thornhill's dark pool?
This is trully amazing!
Each layer is unique. Every layer is clean, without noises. The distortion is not overwhelming the other layers.
Gave me The Warmth vibes. Neat.
1:40 sold me.
Gorgeous.
this goes hard af!!
Reminds me of the kind of build either SOAD or Chevelle would do in their music before going hard, but sans the vocals.
That’s some great stuff.. reminds me of Tesseract a bit.. good job sir
Thank you for demonstrating that it doesn’t have to be complicated i needed that
imprisoned... inside this mind... hiding behind the empty smiles.....
Title proposal: ALL TOGETHER NOW!
Good description of what post rock / prog metal is 🤣
Man, I love it! I will try record something like that.
This kinda reminds me of Distant Dream. And I like it just as much. :D
I didn't know Their Dogs Were Astronauts came out with a single!
Sounds amazing dude, love how much you can bring out with simplicity
I did not expect being crushed by a mountain of sound all of the sudden... That was very powerful!
Excellent! Well done. 💯
I have this "problem" with every song I record.... layer after layer, after layer... "too many" layers... I love not simply a "wall of sound" but an interesting and varied landscape of music... where the mind can always focus in different places and hear different part combinations, then swing back to listen to the whole... that's why I like Hans Zimmerman--he's all layers, and very frequently, many layers of the exact same part...
Very well done, as usual. 👏
Sounds great.
Post metal is so good when it's done right
Chill metal ?! This needs to be on a play so i can listen to it continuously! Love everything you e been putting out ! Thanks for all the music ‘
Take a listen to Widek or Distant Dream, you'll get exaxtly that ! Hope you'll like it
This is like a looper taken to an entirely new level
welcome to post rock!
Beautiful
Nice one!
I love making a "wall of sound" with my loopstation too! ;-)
This gives me omnium gatherum vibes, but just on another level of being peaceful. Beautiful shit.
sounds like the escape from tarkov menue music. i love it.
This was so amazing, I cannot find words to express it properly. I love music that is built that way, and you, kind Sir, did it very well. Stay safe!
1:35 - 1:43 That part was very Scale The Summit'y, Nice!
This is essentially what I need to do, but it's a mix of Thrash, NWOBHM Mathcore Hardcore Metalcore Jazz and Dark Ambient. So only parts get this layered, but even rhythm tones are 4 amps, 2 Blend HM2S, fuzz layer, high gain North America, British and Euro Hi Gain, several speakers, mics and the Freeman technique blend. But I kinda helped influence Metalcore Mathcore and NWOAHM in the 90s(Many Dillinger Escape Plan, Snapcase, Overcast, Shadows Fall gigs, Hellfest and Boston Metal fest 99, and took Unearth on their first tour.) That band was Since the Fall, (Prior band was Downtime in HS til 97, STF formed Early 97 same as Dillinger, we evolved at the same rate, then after a band called Duke Hellington which was like 10 years ahead of most Mathcore in 2002 with BTBAM and Protest the Hero mixed ins but fell apart due to new found alcoholism and an abusive ex wife) we released a Dogshit split shit 97 Demo, a 98 "Demo", which every 'zine called an EP because it was too well done, like, studio ADAT, Printed Cassettes and shrink wrapped tape sleeve was big for a demo in 98! (The Etown Concrete Demo only came in one side and was def done on a 4 track Tascam cassette.) and a 1999 Full Length Indie Album. still can't believe I have fans from 25 years ago still. Broke up in talks with Eulogy with Unearth due to Skinhead drama and me not wanting to play our home town anymore due to riots. ) So I want to mix those and Death Metal and Primus and weirder vocals to start another new Genre. Stagnation is Metal's worst enemy. We get bored easy, it's why we listen to Metal and Hardcore 🤣
Loved this, made me think of Tesseract, needs some soaring vocals over the top :)
Realy frikking nice!
This reminds me of Insomnium, well done
reminds me of SongeLeReveur's "nebula one" project.
where you open up multiple tabs of the individual instrument recordings to produce a cohesive ambient track.
Kinda reminds me of Earthside mixed with a lil' bit of Leprous. Very nicely done! If you did another longer one I would be totally stoked.
Love everything you're doing bro keep it up!
Nice polyphonic production mate, keep it up.
