Del Rio is the real deal. I saw her a few years back at a Twin Peaks convention in London. She performed a flawless set (her Llorando is live every bit as impressive as it is on the studio version) but the really impressive bit came later, during a Q&A session. She was describing how she and Lynch had gone about writing the song No Stars and suddenly started singing different versions of the musical phrase she had just been talking about to illustrate the process. A capella, no preparation, sitting down, right in the middle of a sentence, over a dodgy microphone and sound system - and she once again sounded exactly as does on the studio version. That woman is just crazy talented (and very personable to boot).
Yes! She got vocal nodes after the performance that we're seeing here but before no stars but she bounced back pretty well, she was a really popular Latino singer in the club scene around la. Some reason no stars just kills me man it's just incredible.
Hi Aaliyah. First, thx again for the second great reaction today. Maybe a little context. Mulholland Drive is a great movie by David Lynch, even one of my all-time favourites. Just a little "warning" in case you want to watch it, it's a really weird and surreal movie, probably not for everyone. You need to be able to sit back and enjoy a wild ride. Another interesting thing about this song is, that it's originally written and performed by Roy Orbison. And he is a stunning singer himself. Maybe I will add one of his songs to the next pool. Well worth a reaction.
This is one of my favorite movies but it's so hard to describe in a way that can be understood easily. David Lynch was a very artistic director but he always had great singers and great musicians and just everything about it was always really good and creative. But this is very difficult because the first two thirds of the movie are about a woman who wins a dance contest in Canada when she's young and she's naturally beautiful and charismatic and she moves to LA and everything is ideal and all the connections to be in movies and stuff just falling Place everything just works. But being David Lynch takes a lot of work. Later on you figure out the first two thirds of the movie are her dreaming and then her insecurities pop up and we all know this don't we? It starts to slide into a nightmare and she wakes up from it and at the very end of the movie is when it's actually real time and she is making some coffee and the coffee maker and then she's masturbating on the couch and she's interacting with an ex roommate and then she runs down the hallway to her bedroom and pulls a gun out of the drawer and blows herself away. It's a very powerful movie. But it's perfectly incredible to have Rebecca Del Rio singing this Roy Orbison cover called crying. It's just genius and the story behind it is incredible. About how Rebecca got connected with David Lynch and his music guy, Angelo Badalamenti for this experience.
This is a Spanish-language version of “Crying” originally by Roy Orbison. Unfortunately I don’t speak Españyol, though I would like to. As quite a few people in the complex where I live are Spanish-speaking. The movie this is from was directed by David Lynch, one of my favorite filmmakers. He also used singer Julee Cruise for nightclub scenes in the TV series “Twin Peaks”. Only want to mention his work is incredibly offbeat and super-surreal, though also brilliant at times. It can go into very weird territory, and he is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. But I greatly admire a capella singing. As long as my own vocal journey has been, and as much as I’ve grown on it, I would find it challenging to sing with no backing music, to help me with the key and pitch.
Another thing about David Lynch worth mentioning is his use of music and sound-design in general. He is not only a film-maker, but also a painter and musician himself. Plus he almost always works with Angelo Bandalamenti, who is a great and unique film-composer. His atmospheric scores matches Lynchs visuals perfectly. A match made in heaven. Like Hitchcock and Bernard Herrmann or Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.
All of those are valid points. The only unfortunate thing to me is that Angelo has sadly passed away. But I still enjoy the many pieces he composed for Lynch.
It was very interesting to see your reaction, thank you very much. Yes, of course, it’s better to watch the whole film, then the ending and the meaning of the scene itself (and the blue box that the girl takes out of her bag) will be clear. Rebekkah sings very beautifully, and by the way, she appears again in David Lynch's TV Series "Twin Peaks: The Return" (2017), with the song "No Stars". "No hay banda... It's all an illusion".
This film is a masterpiece.

That is so cool!
I haven't even started this but my mind is freaked out by the fact that somebody that young would pick this to do.
🥰🥰🥰
Great voice. Great scene. Great movie.

You should see the movie! It’s a great mind-bender.
Thanks for the recommendation
You must watch this movie
Maybe you could react to “Falling” by Julie Cruise. It’s from a David Lynch directed tv series called Twin Peaks.
Thanks for the recommendation
Please react to Maria Fiselier - Il mondo. A song that, for some reason, no one has noticed.
Love that song. I had only heard Il Volo sing "Il Mondo." Went and listened to Maria Fiselier sing it, and she was great.
Thanks for the recommendation

the spanish k.d lang
K.D. Lang has no voice in comparison. That aside, it's a Roy Orbison song.
😊
Lynched!
