It's my favourite Bond movie. I get why people don't like it but it's the rawest Bond movie of them all. It's similar to how License to Kill was a shock to many as everyone was used to a smooth, light-hearted action and got served with bleak violence instead.
I presume that because the script was rather underdeveloped, and action scenes were mostly a bit boring, they wanted to make up for it through fast paced editing. However, it backfired, editing is too blurry, you don't really know what's going on. It's like the opposite to what they did with Casino Royale - e.. with the parkour chase, where yopu get great establishing shots, a sense of space and perspective, you really feel the tension for the whole time. Also, in general, I think I've read somewhere that they actually started filming 'Quantum of Solace' before tehy had the final version of the script, which shows, sadly.
@@fang_xianfu The editing is rough to say the least, but it looks like the boat hit her in the head. And the hook was attached to the bow of the boat and the line was tossed into its motor.....I think. Hard to tell tbh. Even when slowing it down.
Casino Royale is shit.... and it didn't have a proper , believable chase and it was too short and unsatisfying. The whole plot too. A train wreck of a film. This is a real Bond movie, that was just ..... crap.
@@SamDoesStuff What he is trying to say (unsuccesfully) is that each of the major set pieces in the film was influenced by the four elements. The opening chase with its quarry was Earth, this was Water, the plane chase was Air and the final confrontation was Fire.

It’s so sad that David Arnold hasn’t returned because I think he delivered the best score me his career in this movie. Absolutely incredible from start to finish.
i agree. my dad didn't like this one at all. he hated the editing and he turned off the tv because he couldn't deal with the fast-cutting. i don't blame him for turning off the tv.
It took me a while to figure it out, but I think the key is in the puncture noise you hear after the anchor pierced the trailing boat's internal air chambers. Once he boat lost its hydrodynamic properties, it caused the boat to flip and capsize.
Michael Lawrence One of the reasons that I like Quantum of Solace is the lean running time of 106 minutes. If you think that I'm worried that No Time to Die (163 minutes!) will be bloated, you're right.
I liked the pacing but they shouldn't of had such short cuts in the action scenes. I wanted longer takes of Bond on his boat or the airplane flying through nice scenery.
Although it's understood that the title of the film is taken from a short story in his, 'For Your Eyes Only' collection, a 'Quantum of Solace' appears first in Ian Fleming's 'Thrilling Cities'. It's his invented term for a UK tax exemption clause for rich entertainers. As far as I can tell, neither source has any connection to the film.

One of the worst shot and edited action sequences in recent memory (the opening car chase shootout isn't quite as bad as this, but it's close). Pretty shocking. What even happens at 2:24? He puts the hook of what I presume is his own boat up onto the other boat, but why does that cause the rope to suddenly start being pulled? What force is suddenly pulling on the rope? It makes absolutely no sense. It's as if they didn't get enough coverage and there are shots missing.
A few days ago we decided to start watching this saga, I barely saw that hook scene, I thought I had missed something, I watched it several times, and I was sure someone else had seen this. I hope this is the worst movie in the series.
This is probably the weakest action scene in the film. It takes the most prominent issues with the other sequences, mashes them all together without any of the redeeming qualities and turns it up to 11 - mainly the fact that there is absolutely zero sense of geography. All these boats may as well be driving in different oceans because the movie doesn’t even bother trying to show where they are in relation to each other. On the plus side the music is fucking INCREDIBLE. David Arnold absolutely killed it in this movie and I’d argue delivered the best score of his Bond career. It’s a real shame they ditched him in favour of a much lesser composer with all the newer movies.
I love Daniel Craig as bond. He’s my 2nd favorite bond actor (after the late great Sean Connery). So it sucks he’s in my of my least favorite bond movies (that being this one). I know this was being written during the writers strike and it shows. Not to mention the horrific editing makes it hard to watch and understand wth is going on at times. Guess this partially has to do with why Skyfall was such a massive success.
The editing is deliberately messy. It's meant to involve the viewer into the chaos rather than to let them be a passive observe watching some action ballet from a distance.
it is terrible and needs to stop, when the viewer doesn't know what is happening then you have failed as an editor and the director has failed at stopping you from ruining the movie
This pales big time in comparison to Moore's boat chase in _Live and Let die._ Too many cuts filmed with too shaky hands you don't know what's going on. Moore's scenes were golden compared to this crap.
This boat chase, and the car chase at the start...the way both of them end with a sudden violent crash...always takes my breath away!
