Commanders fan here. My honest opinion of this game: Maye has wow throws, and he also threw some hospital balls too. He needs a clean pocket to cook, but doubt he gets that’s with the teams who are in position to draft him. Commanders shouldn’t draft him simply because of their OL situation. Wherever he goes he’ll need to sit behind a starter a couple years to refine his mechanics, but we all know that ain’t gonna happen which is sad. Jayden Daniels to Washington makes the most sense due to him being more of a threat running the ball, but he better learn to slide. Just watch the JD vs Alabama game where a safety knocked him out with a regular blitz tackle…not a DL or a LB, a safety 👀. That’s the knock on JD. Maye can take a hit. Wish Maye the best but yeah it’ll be crazy if Washington drafts Maye when they had a more NFL polished QB in Sam Howell and traded him away. Sam’s yet another victim of having no OL blocking for you screwing up the growth. But I digress, Maye has a great ceiling he just doesn’t need to start immediately and certainly doesn’t need to get drafted by Washington. HAIL✊🏾
There is literally no where for him to go with the ball. Zero separation from receivers and most of the time the dbs were in better position than the receivers! Not to mention the o-line was god awful.
The UNC coach had 4 quarters to figure out how to beat 1 high man and only had 2 plays that had any potential. The oline sucked also idk why the center refused to account for all-american jeremiah Trotter when he was playing as a spy every snap. At the same time there were a handful of plays where drake needs to do better. If you want an inside route, look off the spy, he almost gave trotter an easy pick. My last note is that his receivers were outclassed. The last pick is not on drake, thats the worst, most predictable curl route ive ever seen and nate wiggins(a 1st round pick) is jumping all over it.
I generally agree that the main problem was the coaching and o-line, but I felt like the last pick is on Maye. You have to recognize the leverage of the corner on those routes. If the corner is squatting and not running vertically, you shouldn't throw that ball. It's going to get intercepted most of the time, assuming he's close enough to make a play on it (as he was in this case).
The 2022 ACC Championship game against Clemson is what made me a litle weary of him as a prospect. And then it happens again the next year. I realize Clemson has a massive talent advantage but I'd like to see him elevate his team in situations like this. He looks extremely nervous and shaky in the pocket when he goes up against good defenses & his throws become increasingly off target.
Worse statistical game than something like the Miami game, but vastly more to gain from tape wise. Actually is making reads and using his eyes to move defenders. Still a lot to sort through obviously but this is the first game where I got why he's a touted prospect.
Honestly, he has a ton of talent and is really held back by his offense, I could see him being a baller in the NFL if he goes somewhere where they can build around him. Though that Clemson defence looked pretty good and Nate Wiggins made a great play at 15:57
One day everyone will see the truth about what is going on here with Drake Maye. Dude is not that good. People are just in love with his size. People that say his ball placement is elite are straight up lying. He underthrows so many receivers and sails on a lot of throws. Bad habits bad footwork. And he crumbles under pressure. Not a top 3 QB in this draft at all. You will see
A lot of questionable decisions, shaky at best accuracy, and arm strength isnt anything to write home about. Some good plays with his feet and a couple solid throws but not anything that any other college qb doesn't have. Honestly 2nd round grade on him at best
I don't understand how this guy is considered a top QB prospect and projected to go top 3 in the NFL draft. He misses way too many basic throws and isn't an exceptional athlete.
There are also times where he tries to force the play when he could have thrown it short/checked it down. For example, at 3:21 where he forces it to #5 after seeing he was covered in man instead of looking at the TE in the flats that beat the linebacker to the outside. His footwork also needs a lot of work as he makes quite a few unnecessary movements with his feet in the pocket.
@@evanthompson4186 i think this game is his worst game in that regard. But his adjust completion % is relatively high on the season. His off target % is relatively low. And he had a ton of drops on the seasons that were basically handoffs. Even in this game he really had no where to go with the ball a bunch of times. His skill guys don't separate at all. If you watch tape on him, he routinely fits ball in super tight windows. Off platform.
The Patriots better not draft this guy. You can get the same production if not better in the 2nd round or later. They need an elite talent like Marvin Harrison Jr.
@@antbull0749 Hysterical, He is the best QB in this draft. You don't judge a QB on a couple of "errant" throws. Most QB's miss 35% of passes. Maye checks every single box.
There is NO power behind his throws from the pocket. He also takes too long to deliver the ball once he sees it....Its like " Let me set my feet and throw." This makes it easier for the defense to make a play and harder for his receivers to run after the catch. Maye gets compared to Justin Herbert but doesn't throw with Herbert's velocity/ppwer. There is just not alot of quickness to his game reaction wise. I feel like his prototypical size is a big factor. If Maye were 6'1 he wouldn't be a top 5 pick.
Commanders should draft him if he can sit a year behind Sam Howell. If the fan base isn’t patient and needs an immediate starter then go with Daniels and build the offense around him.
ew we don't want that running back. jayden daniels struggles throwing from the pocket. he can't make all the throws, and he's too quick to scramble. He has the highest scrambled rate when not under pressure in the country. It's ridiculous. @@bjduhgoat4184
Every draft with Commanders taking Drake Maye at 2 is the dumbest move you can make! Drake Maye is going to be garbage! Guaranteed garbage and early. He will start maybe two years before he's a certified backup!

He’s a tough guy to evaluate. I’m not a fan of the two OC’s he’s played under and he doesn’t have a lot of help around him.
A bad OL and bad scheme didn't help Maye. He is a very good prospect but no QB's drafted are guarantees. In fact more QB's fail than make it.
Tough game but overall he’s a good prospect his throwing motion is slow tho
