  • Late in the 2016 season the Pittsburgh Panthers took on the Clemson Tigers. With talent all over the field including players such as James Conner, Deshaun Watson, Nathan Peterman, and many more, explosive plays occurred without surprise. The Panthers would kick a field goal in the final seconds to defeat the second ranked Tigers 43-42. Peterman would finish 22-37 for 308 yards and five touchdowns.

    • @mike48931
      @mike48931 Год назад

      I believe Clemson played four or five ranked opponents just in regular season play that year and Auburn was ranked in the opener at least. This team is the best Clemson team in CFP era in my view. They did not win as convincingly as a certain other Clemson team, but they faced higher quality opponents in general and this was also when FSU had not completely imploded yet. Nearly losing is not losing, it's winning.

    • @rizwanjaved1705
      @rizwanjaved1705 2 года назад +9

      They didn't even deserve to be in the playoffs to begin with after this pathetic shit show.
      Clemson has the luxury of playing in a ultra weak conference that has no playoff contenders year after after year. It's common sense that even 2 losses in a conference like SEC and Big 10 is better than 1 loss in ACC. Yet no team with 2 losses will ever make it to playoffs.
      Look at what LSU had to do. They had to go head on with 6 or 7 top 10 teams to win the national title. Now that's an earned title. Meanwhile Clemson gets 12 practice games against high school teams and still get to go the playoffs even if they lose one.

      I never said Clemson wasn't good enough. I'm going off the traditional metrics used to determine who gets to playoffs. Losses and the type of teams you play against are the two biggest factors. Not only did Clemson have nothing but cupcakes on their schedule, they still managed to blow a game against a completely irrelevant team. So yes, they absolutely did not deserve to be in playoffs that year.

    I was happy Clemson won the title that year….but losing at home to unranked Pitt….the getting the #2 seed in the playoffs, but FSU goes undefeated heading into the playoffs in 2014 and gets a #3 seed. Both teams had close games. Clearly they hated FSU because of one player.

      I think they set it up that way in 2014, because everyone wanted to see Alabama vs Florida State in the National Championship, because that matchup would’ve made a lot more money than it would have as a semifinal matchup. It should’ve been Alabama vs Florida State the year before.

    • @Jagnole101

      @@michaelcarpenter9004 we got screwed and had to play 3000 miles away in the Rose Bowl against a PAC 12 team in essentially their backyard. If you’re undefeated, you should be the top seed. We actually played a good schedule too. Even though OSU won it all, if you look at the rankings of teams we both played in the regular, we played much harder teams. They lost to unranked VT at home by 14 and got the 4th seed.

      @@Jagnole101 Welcome to the Big Ten where you always play the SEC and Pac 12 in their land for a “Neutral” game😃. Oregon did seem like the better team that entire season so people pretty much saw the blowout coming. In 2015 they had a one loss Alabama ranked ahead of undefeated defending champions Ohio State also. With that being said, you guys should’ve been the #1 seed..only it wouldn’t be a better result facing a red hot buckeye team who beat Oregon by 22 with 4 turnovers... Ohio State lost in the second game of the season then went on to beat Michigan State 49-37 (who beat Baylor that TCU couldn’t handle) and Wisconsin 59-0. Ohio State was on their 2nd game with freshman QB JT Barrett who actually threw the game winning Pick 6 so we had an excuse. Ohio State simply wasn’t the same team who lost to VT earlier in the season and that was painfully obvious down the stretch. Definition of “get hot at the perfect time”. Y’all didn’t really play much of a harder schedule, y’all played and beat #15 Clemson by 6 at home and #8 Georgia Tech by two. Ohio State played #5 Michigan State on the road (who’s only losses were to the teams that played the natty) and #13 Wisconsin.. They also beat an Indiana team who beat 11-3 Missouri on the road.

      @@kev614 I’m saying when we played the teams we played, they were ranked highly……I do realize the ends justify the means nonetheless…OSU was redhot, but they were one seed behind FSU after a terrible loss. All year long we heard about “eye test”. Transitive properties though with the beating Oregon by 22 and us losing by 39 to Oregon. Different teams match up. OSU would’ve almost certainly won, but we still should’ve been #1. 2014 OSU was one of my favorite non-FSU teams to win it after all the crap they went through….and with Meyer as my Jags new coach I have kind of grown fond of them 😂 the media attacks him constantly…they underestimate him

    • @kev614
      @kev614 2 года назад +1

      @@Jagnole101 Yeah, I get what you mean you guys should’ve been the #1 seed the committee just can’t make up their minds when it comes to what criteria they use to rank teams, one day it’s the four most deserving then the other it’s the four best. I have to respect FSU because we’re 0-4 all time against them. I do hope that you guys start being good though because Football is better when teams like USC, FSU and Texas are good. Just do me a favor and beat Notre Dame?

    Three takeaways from this game:
    1. Shovel passes and Conner destroyed Clemson
    2. Watson's interception in the end zone was absolutely horrendous
    3. Going for it on 4th down was idiotic by Dabo they should for sure have punted
    Pitt deserved to win it based on what really happened but Clemson shouldn't have made so many mistakes

    The down side to playing an easy baby schedule every year is that when you lose it’s supremely embarrassingly even more so then when you “hang with” a team you’re equal to or a slight underdog to.
