Growing up in Iowa and being a fan of the Pac 12 I can remember how Iowa fans dismissed McCaffery leading up to this game saying he hasn't "played a real defense". He then proceeded to make the whole Iowa defense look like they were on ice skates all afternoon. lol
Where have I heard that before? I'm a 3rd generation USC alum. We heard the same talk from the Iowa folks in the build-up to the 2003 Orange Bowl. The result was 38-17. Although the score looks somewhat respectable, Iowa got its touchdowns from the opening kickoff and a late score in garbage time. If you watched the whole game you'd know it was a beat-down. Iowa fans and players need a little humility.
7 years later, and Christian McCaffrey (Stanford RB) and George Kittle (Iowa TE) are now superstar players on the 49ers trying to win a Super Bowl together. Probably something poetic about this. Also, CJ Beathard (Iowa QB) and Solomon Thomas (Stanford DT) - as well as Kittle - were all drafted by the 49ers, so a lot of SF connections in this game.
From an iowa fan, mad respect to Christian for kicking our asses. I remember us talking before the game saying stuff like "he hasn't played a real defense yet"... well when he did, he torched us. Hard to be upset about that, dude was straight up lethal in college. He got robbed of a heisman.
😂😂😂😂 he didn’t play a real defense 😂😂😂😂 he played Iowa. Derrick Henry won the heisman for a reason because he played top end defense after top end defense and bulldozed his way over 2000 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns AGAINST SEC DEFENSES!! That’s why little Christian didn’t win🤷♂️.
Stanford got regularly robbed of the Heisman back in those days. Toby Gerhart, Andrew Luck, Christian McCaffery, Bryce Love all were Heisman runners-up. At least the first three of those should've won, IMO.

Do you know how hard it is to find 2 & 3 star players and develop them to where they make it in the NFL? Iowa has the 6th most players in the NFL with 2 & 3 star players. Stanford can't do that.
Me and my Dad were there, 5th row 40 yard line, in black and yellow, and could hear the huffing and puffing of CMC as he burned the secondary on the first play 80 yard PA. @@dt6152 Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you'll be missing the Super Bowl. 🙂
At the end, a grown man turned a very classy interview into a shit show. I would have loved it if Mac turned to him and said “Tone it down!”
One of the best college football seasons for a player ive ever seen.Still didnt win the Heisman.Derek Henry won it that year.Pretty darn good football player himself.
Stanford had NFL talent all over the field foreal. Team was legit
He was a beast and a blessing to watch
I was glad he became best in NFL. Made my hawks look like a high school team.
DIII!
This looks like when you made a Road To Glory character and put it on the easiest difficulty
I miss Stanford being good.
Some CMC trivia. Christian is the 2nd generation of McCaffrey's to play for the 49ers. His dad won a Super Bowl with the 9er's back in the 90's.
He also had another long TD that got called back on a bogus holding call.
And now we have him on the 49ers! MVP!
It's easy to forgot just how good Stanford was during the early Shaw years.
Favorite college player to watch ever
This was a painful game to watch, seeing one person take over a game like that when it's on your opponent's side sucks. Gald he's gone on to have a great career though, he's earned it.
I remembered this. On the first play of scrimmage, that boy went all the way to the end zone
One of the greatest college players of all time
The guy in the back throughout the whole interview: “HEISMAN”
Annoying. We got it the first time.
I remember hearing people say how "tough" and "physical" Iowa was lol, a pretty weak schedule for one, and it clearly showed, they all looked so pathetic. That was a punch to the face courtesy of the PAC12
Incredibly weak schedule. They had one game against a team above .500 in the regular season and lost to both ranked teams they played
Crazy to remember his college performances he’s up there with tavon Austin and de’Anthony Thomas but he didn’t flop in the nfl
I don’t know how i missed out on him watching him playing in college this long but now i understand why everyone in fantasy picks him first. Kid is insane
bro i’m an LSU fan but that Stanford defense that game was insane
Back when Stanford was good
And Iowa
@@jclbuxfan Iowa is still decent, but not good
@@jclbuxfan These comments both aged well..
Lmao this many years later I realized in the interview that chick said “productision” trying to say productivity😂
*travels halfway across the country hoping to see iowas first rosebowl win in 50 years*
fun trip to california, disappointing game
I, a Cyclone fan, was disappointed as well
I'm a diehard SEC fan, but he should have a Heisman trophy in his collection!!! One of my favorites!!
crazy that cmc and derrick henry came from the same draft and were both hesiman finalists
Think McCaffery was a year later. In the same class as Fournette, Hunt, Kamara, Mixon and maybe Aaron Jones.
I was at the game.... Iowa had no one who could stop him. He had another TD on a punt return called back on a penalty.
Christian McCaffrey is that dude you make in RTG mode in NCAA 14 that you know could never exist in real life.
As a Nebraska and 49ers fan, This makes me happy :)
The guy yelling during the interview was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I remember this damn game. Shit was not even close....
Speaking for Stanford fans, we / I appreciate the classy Iowa fans on here.
Has always been a workhorse. And good at it. Hope he wins a ring.
