Commanders will sent him raw directly to war, he'll look more like the second part of the vid. But the Pats may have the patience to sit him behind Brisset for a while
FYI - all of the highlights shown are against non-ACC weak opponents, some of them FCS. They show one throw against Clemson and against NC State, both UNC losses.
He's young & young minded. Happy footed as well. I sincerely hope we sit him all season. ... Even if outta the playoffs early I'd still only want to see him out there for the last 2 games at the most. Am worried that the Kraft's will want him playing earlier. ... I don't believe Mayo will, but you know, is what it is. ... They were in Bill's ear & don't see that changing. Kraft's tend to cave to local media pressures. Plus, they'll want to see if he plays well early without talent, so they can continue not coming anywhere close to the cap. Shall see though. ... Hopefully I'm way off on that. Thanks for the video. ... The given time & efforts are indeed appreciated
10:00 I would not call that anticipation. The receiver won on the route. Maye doesn't throw the ball until the receiver has completely turned around. That's not NFL anticipation, in the NFL you gotta read the leverage and throw that ball before the receiver has even finished their break.
You can’t teach size ,athleticism,or arm talent the rest con be developed. The biggest variable for these prospect is where they end up in The NFL. Mahomes might not be as successful if he had been taken by the Bears or the Patriots. Th initial coaching they receive at the next level is a major factor in their future success
So far Drake only started in 26 college games and zero NFL Practice , so I hope Drake and the coaches are paying attention to this and we will see how he looks after a full NFL season .
As a Jets fan, i wanted them to be in a position to draft him before we got Rodgers. I just hope NE doesn't get him. If he isn't a bust, his potential is better than Herbert.
as a patriots fan, I'm hoping we get him at 3 lol. I think he's a great fit, we can sit him for a year and let brissett start to see where the weapons/oline really is at as to not exacerbate his footwork/oline trust issues. then, make the corresponding changes in the offseason and let him loose the following year
That's a big ask in this league man. There are a lot of good quarterbacks already playing in it. And no way in hell does he do that if he DOESN'T work out his mechanics. He won't be doing jack if he doesn't fix his feet and overall throwing mechanics to improve his accuracy.
Jetfan brethren here. Their breakdown on Zach Wilson was spot on. I wish JD watched it before drafting him. They said he was a 3rd round pick at best before the draft.
@@jasonderby7635he def has bad traits, I just dont thing his processing is one of them. if the vikings manage to trade up and get him it will really be a match made in heaven for both sides, its gonna take good coaching but his ceiling could be just as high if not higher than williams

Definitely not the same as Levis! I have major concerns over Mayes game, but he flashes every high level skill you wanna see - Levis never showed the anticipation and reading skills of Maye. Glad you learn more every vid - hoping to do a proper football tutorial series this summer for people to learn the game
TF's Levis opinion endured in the regular season. Granted the Titans didn't have much to work with and Levis did have a couple games where going deep got him on the highlight reel. But overall his game was eh.
Obviously this could age badly, but I think Maye was the best choice for NE. I think Williams would be the only other good fit (NE wasnt getting Williams). with maybe Bo Nix. Jayden Daniels would be stepping into a big downgrade for what he currently has and what ue had at LSU. I think the same for Penix and McCarthy.
@@ThinkingFootball They're silly because one trade or unexpected move ruins the whole board. I think going through each teams needs vs the prospects who could realistically be on the board for them would be very interesting though.
@@Rudipu It just seems like they're designed to get clicks to me - link a player with a team to get fans excited and draw views, whilst offering basically nothing of substance We aim to bring nuance to the game as efficiently as possible - im not here to steal your attention for the sake of it.
Maye is like buying one of those billion dollar lottery tickets. You know that it is a long shot but if you hit with his trait if the stars align you could have something special. If he ends up in Minnesota I give him a decent chance to be a good QB. If he goes to NE or Washington his rooky contract will be his only contract.
I feel Maye can grow with the Pats. O-line is a huge weakness for them to fix but when its good, they aren't afraid to run the ball with their bruiser in Stevenson. Plus their defense when healthy is rock solid. Their coaching staff on offense has something to prove but certainly not the known sore commodity that is Kliff being the OC with the Washington team. Where he is most certainly going to waste the existing receiver talents there because he can't program a competent passing game.
If he cleans up his mechanics n pocket discipline (watching the rush instead of downfield, leaving and runnin round the pocket when not needed etc etc) he’ll be good.
As a UNC fan who has followed his career, I hope he gets a chance to sit behind someone for a season or two. There's a lot of promise, but his mechanics are not day 1 ready. I also hope he gets the O-Line he never got at UNC. He needs a team that won't rely on him to play hero ball.
I think his footwork issue being 'alleviated' will come down to the situation he's drafted in. Also some of these top prospects are already trying to fix their footwork in the time period before getting drafted and before the regular season. Maybe even to the point where the footwork issues aren't as pronounced as they are on their college tape when they get their first start in September.
All the rumors now are the Giants are aggressively trying to get the 3rd pick from the Patriots. Some are saying that the Patriots are more interested in JJ McCarthy compared to Drake and may be looking to move down, draft JJ, and get some additional draft capital in the process. It's definitely intriguing to see if the Giants get him though and Brian Daboll can work with him in the same way he did with Josh Allen in Buffalo. There's some comparisons there. Big arm strength, athleticism, but some major concerns regarding his footwork and accuracy...definitely reminds me of Josh Allen coming out of the draft, and look at what Josh is now. Don't know what'll happen on draft night but Maye to the Giants is definitely the most intriguing outcome for me, just because of what Daboll was able to do with Josh Allen in a relatively short amount of time. Giants definitely need receiver help and secondary help, but lord knows Daniel Jones aint it for them. That ship has sailed.
Such a tough evaluation, hope he gets a chance to sit for a bit to work on his footwork. Kinda looks like Jordan Love, but somehow Love gets away with the bouncy footwork
Give this dude 2 years to sit and he could easily be Jordan Love but we know that wont happen. NFL has qb evaluation backwards. They look at qbs expecting a complete player when they should be looking for guys with elite traits that cant be taught and give them the time and resources to develop that which can be taught. Patience and reps. Patience and reps.
Josh Allen is an anomoly, he's really not a good person to compare other prospects too - He didnt show the reads or anticipation in college, and had to refix his whole throwing motion
I don’t know if you saw it but Bill Belichick broke his film down too and basically said the same things you have. Maye’s footwork and decision making causes him a lot of issues as a passer

He looks like Josh Allen like of wheels
He sees the right reads and footwork is fixable I think he’ll be fine
He reminds me of stafford coming out of college.
10:00 I would not call that anticipation. The receiver won on the route. Maye doesn't throw the ball until the receiver has completely turned around. That's not NFL anticipation, in the NFL you gotta read the leverage and throw that ball before the receiver has even finished their break.
We need a review on Jayden Daniels!!!
I think he's a great fit, we can sit him for a year and let brissett start to see where the weapons/oline really is at as to not exacerbate his footwork/oline trust issues. then, make the corresponding changes in the offseason and let him loose the following year
I think Drake has an equal ceiling to Caleb Williams. Even if he doesnt work out his mechanics, I think he can be good enough to be a top 10 QB
That's a big ask in this league man. There are a lot of good quarterbacks already playing in it. And no way in hell does he do that if he DOESN'T work out his mechanics. He won't be doing jack if he doesn't fix his feet and overall throwing mechanics to improve his accuracy.
Will the real QB1 please stand up
Amazing you predicted Patriots will draft Mr. Maye. Great analysis.
Don’t overthink it. He should go #2 overall
NY Giants, please give the Pats an offer they cant refuse for the 3rd pick. Pray its Maye and if not Daniels will work too
Maye is a commander buddy
@@sdhfgujk467 Giants will still sweep yall
I see a new thinking football video and I click. It’s that simple
Your are the best in the business literally when it comes to this draft sh**. Can’t wait for more videos!! I’m a jet fan hook me up!!
Jetfan brethren here. Their breakdown on Zach Wilson was spot on. I wish JD watched it before drafting him. They said he was a 3rd round pick at best before the draft.
Facts!
13:09 I get that throw was a tick late but it literally hit his receiver in the face lol. Needs to be a catch
Drake Maye looks like Josh Allen at Wyoming to me. If he can get better with his accuracy and reading the field.. dude could be a legit NFL star.
Maye the real slim shady please stand up
This is very interesting, I do think the footwork can be fixed by a competent franchise with good coaching
if hes this good at 21 i have a ton of confidence in him... great analysis
His processing is his most underrated trait. It seems to me that any “missed reads” are intentional and not really misses
Lmao what does that even mean? You’re trying to do mental gymnastics to justify bad traits.
@@jasonderby7635he def has bad traits, I just dont thing his processing is one of them. For example, at 15:50 to me it looks more like he didn’t want to get his receiver killed by the LB, and was looking for something in the endzone. Plus, by the time the whip is really open, he is under heavy pressure. I think a lot of his processing issues (not all of them) can be put on poor scheme and OL play
Totally agree with the assessment and keeping him away from Kingsbury LOL. I do think Daniels is a better fit anyway for the Kingsbury's O, but we'll see
Cute title, but you should also include something about what the video is actually about so people can find it when searching
if the vikings manage to trade up and get him it will really be a match made in heaven for both sides, its gonna take good coaching but his ceiling could be just as high if not higher than williams
Coach great vid!
at 16:21: "When the pressure piles on, the chaos multiplies". The most severe charge I ever heard you bring against a player! But it is close to your opinion of Will Lewis last year, isn't it? BTW, I learn more about the game every time I check your vids. A big thank you for your work.
@@t4d0W Even the game when he went off the refs were on crack - 3 of his 4 scores were CLEAR OPIs they refused to call
Future patriot
Nice breakdown
Thanks for the education
Love the video, can you do jayden Daniels too ?
I didn’t catch the Kingsburry comment at the end? Help pls
Totally unnecessary shot at Kliff. Just kidding, as a Cardinals fan I've said way worse.
I'm wondering what the Brock Purdy tape (from college) analysis would look like
May the real slim shady please stand up!
The end 💀
Patriots 🍻
Good prediction on the draft 😅
Are you / gave you put together a mock draft ?
Would you guys want one? I always find Mock Drafts to be a bit silly - definitely wanna do a big board video though!
@@ThinkingFootball They're silly because one trade or unexpected move ruins the whole board. I think going through each teams needs vs the prospects who could realistically be on the board for them would be very interesting though.
@@Rudipu It just seems like they're designed to get clicks to me - link a player with a team to get fans excited and draw views, whilst offering basically nothing of substance
We aim to bring nuance to the game as efficiently as possible - im not here to steal your attention for the sake of it.
@@ThinkingFootballbig board would be much more insightful. Care more about your evals than fantasy booking a draft
I'm so curious about the capitalization choices in the video's title.
If he cleans up his mechanics n pocket discipline (watching the rush instead of downfield, leaving and runnin round the pocket when not needed etc etc) he’ll be good.
why can’t kliff kingsbury work with him
As a UNC fan who has followed his career, I hope he gets a chance to sit behind someone for a season or two.
Maye being spooked due to bad O-line play & running himself into danger reminds me of Justin Fields. They be seeing ghosts out there.
Bad comparison
@@joshmontez7982 How so?
@@bofi1280 Justin fields makes his olines bad Drake Maye actually has bad olines
Such a tough evaluation, hope he gets a chance to sit for a bit to work on his footwork. Kinda looks like Jordan Love, but somehow Love gets away with the bouncy footwork
These are 🔥
Please save my life Drake Maye 🙏🏾
Give this dude 2 years to sit and he could easily be Jordan Love but we know that wont happen. NFL has qb evaluation backwards. They look at qbs expecting a complete player when they should be looking for guys with elite traits that cant be taught and give them the time and resources to develop that which can be taught. Patience and reps. Patience and reps.
Need the Penix video asap
QB1
Throws a t d Lefty,,, never seen that before from a pure righty.wow
Sounds like Josh Allen
That what I be saying
Josh Allen is an anomoly, he's really not a good person to compare other prospects too - He didnt show the reads or anticipation in college, and had to refix his whole throwing motion
He's giving... Jay Cutler 😂
horrible comparison
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🧢🧢🧢
Aye don’t diss Smokin’ Jay. Decent starter isn’t anything to be mad about.
He looks like the young Tom Brady !
Future Commander. Great video man
Nope 🤡
Why are all these highlights in the gun?
I don’t know if you saw it but Bill Belichick broke his film down too and basically said the same things you have. Maye’s footwork and decision making causes him a lot of issues as a passer
I can see why Simms doesn't like Maye I mean he's just too inconsistent when reading defenses a slow release and footwork all over the place
He did the most with less help in college football the last 2 years
Can u make a vid for the corners too pls🙏🏾
