For those commenting on my dirty earpads on previous video's. Look at them now! I fixed it. 😭 now you will never notice them being dirty as they are black, hehehehe.
Fun fact, the black pads are actually totally different soundwise compared to the standard EDT-990V grey pads. They make the dt 990s sound a lot warmer and darker, which can be seen on frequency response measurements. Besides adding an overly amount of midtone warmth, they also add a 4kHz cut, which will result in a more gaggy kind of sound. Proper ear pads are a HUGE part of why the dt 990s sound as good as they do, at first the headphones will sound overly bright and very sibilant due to big 6kHz and 8kHz peaks. After a while though those peaks smooth out significantly due to pads flattening out a bit and the amount of bass increases. This results in an impressively smooth frequency response and changing the pads out for different ones will color the sound a LOT and add big defects like chewed up treble and the 4kHz cut. I would definitely recommend picking up some original EDT-990V grey pads for the 990s (exactly the EDT-990V model, there are different pads for the 770 and 880 models that look the same but are different), this will make them sound more balanced and better overall. PS. Keep up the great work, I'm really enjoying my 60HE. I myself own a pair of dt 990s and this whole comment came out of a place of passion :)
@@donald5983 And the verdict is DT 990? Have you tried Sennheiser or any other Beyerdynamic products? Just curious as they have higher and lower end as well. I need the great comfortability, good sound profile with open back but indecisive. The prices differ a lot and I am not an audiophile so don’t know which ones require amp/dac etc.
@@Cemroz The dt 990 pro 250 ohm with silver pads (not the edition version) were indeed the best out of any headphones that I've seen. Other beyer headphones usually come with a massive 4kHz cut and an 8kHz peak in the treble, both of which don't go away over time. Sennheiser's headphones usually cut out all of the bass and sub bass, roll off the treble completely and have a 5-6kHz depending on the model, even their HD800s have a 6kHz peak and a massive 8-9kHz treble cut that reaps out all of the detail. The price doesn't seem to matter much in the headphone/IEM world, one company makes a single good piece of equipment by accident and then just makes crap afterwards. As for comfort the dt 990s are pretty superb due the spacious velour pads and comfy headband. I will say if you're planning on getting a pair, they will have a 6kHz and 8kHz peak out of the box but after some time the ear pads compress a bit and the peaks smooth out. You are left with an extreamly smooth frequency response and a balanced sound (a bass boost and a treble boost). So far the only thing that could rival the smoothness of treble on the 990s were the Simgot EM6L but those are IEMs and not headphones so if you're looking at over ears there's nothing else out there.
