Nice tip Susan and thank you! I never have any bits on bobbins.🤣, because I usually always use the same color of thread for everything. It's a huge time saver for me. ☀️🧵
Bonjour Annette.
Merci! ~Annette
Both absolutely beautiful! Hope your machine will be ok, but so lovely to see an old Singer! Just shows what you can do with very basic equipment and stitches. ☺️ Deb xx 🤗
There are so many ways to use scraps. These 2 are great. I enjoy adding the piano key board as a border. I think it is classy. I sometimes spend the day just chain piecing with adding tape my smaller scraps but definitely will take some of my longer strips to make 5 or 6” strips.
Ya, if I layed out my strips like that my kitty would try to crawl under them. He likes to play Nija Kitty where he hides under my fabric and when I’m least expecting it he jumps out and attacks, lol. He’s such a big help🤣😂
When attaching your binding, at the beginning... Sew, ⅛ from the edge, the point part down as a single layer past where you'd normally start. Cut your thread, fold the fabric back on itself, making 2 layers again and start like you show in your video, catching that single stitched layer underneath. Leave the opening long enough to tuck in the other end. This single layer will stay tight when inserting the other end. Keeps your finish to the front tighter with least chance of pleats. Hope my explanation makes sense.
I love string and crumb quilts. Because of this video I subscribe to your channel. I already know how to do these things. But I just like to see how you did this differently from the way I do them. And I never made triangles like you did not have I done any borders.
Very nice and relaxing video. You had an idea and just took off sewing. The first quilt is my fqvorite. Whenever I see scrappy quilts I am almost jealous and want to cut up my yardage into strips I would like to try this with Christmas fabric. Christmas fabric
I admire your ability to just go for it. I would spend too much time worrying about which fabrics are next to each other. These quilts are great. I am always curious at what size your quilts finish.
I learned to sew when I was 9 on my mom's Singer featherweight like this! Same year, too! And now, I have it. 😊 But it needs a new belt. My newer Singer Simple is still working fine. Interesting how you put those strips together by similar lengths. I like to do piano key border strips and separate them by contrast sashing to make a larger top, or make rail fence blocks. Working on row quilt(s) now with blocks I started years ago. Need to get them out, and used! I may donate them to animal shelter, or crisis nursery.
Neat to hear about your machine!🧵 I just picked up my big machine from the shop! Will be nice to have all the features again! I donate most of the quilts I make. ☀️☀️☀️
For this quilt I did not. I just grabbed from my scrap bin and did not trim widths. Yesterday, I cut a BUNCH of 2.5" wide strips from some 'ugly' fabric and will be making a strip tube quilt from those soon. So sometimes I do use fixed width.
I really like how you just sew all the scrap strips together then cut out blocks. I have a lot of scraps, as we all do and I avoid them at times because making blocks seems time consuming and I get intimidated I guess. But there is all that fabric at my disposal, so I just can't seem to drop it off at a thrift store. I think I will try this method, very efficient! Thanks for the video.
Thanks Paula! It's been a minute! I was wondering what you were up to! Hey I am glad this was helpful. The beauty of this method is if your scraps are wonky, who cares? HA! Have a great day!
I’ve been watching lots of scrap quilt tutorials. I’m new to quilting and have very few scraps at this point, so I’m looking forward to trying your ideas.
Love the diagonal scrappy quilt. Had to mute the video though so I missed your commentary (we can’t all tolerate the same type of music, and it was quite loud).
Thank you! I totally understand! I put "jazzy" in my title when I put on a jazz soundtrack, so if you see that you'll know to mute. I'll be making more of these type of quilts! I just cut a BUNCH of 2.5" strips from 'ugly' fabric and will be making some strip tube quilts!
Thanks so much! ☀️ Jazz is just one of the many types of music I enjoy. If you see "jazzy" in the tile of the video, you'll be forewarned and can avoid it. I'm in a JAZZ CITY! Thank you for validating my sewing style! It is so liberating and a lot of people are drawn to the look of so many fabrics in ONE place!
I totally agree! Thanks so much!! ☀️ 🧵
I think both quilts were beautiful!
Thank you! ☀️☀️
Very nice use of scraps. I make a lot of scrappy quilts too, just a little hint- I use up bits of bobbins from my stash instead of loading new ones.
Great idea! 👍🏻 Deb x

Right Vivianne? SEW TRUE for me too! ☀️🧵

Thanks so much! ❤️. We'll know in a couple of weeks if "colossus" as I refer to that Singer Modern Quilter, is ok or not! ☀️🧵
I love your quilt, thanks for sharing.
I have been working on this quilt for a while now.
No big rush, I plan on finishing it before soon.
@@robertawestbrooks9531 Thanks so much Roberta! I'm glad you liked it! ☀
Nice Job. This is SO-O-O NOT boring to watch. I have subscribed.
You will be the only quilter in the world who has no scraps!
Thanks so much for subscribing! I love scraps! ☀️

Awesome! String quilts are some of my absolute favorites! I enjoy and also learn from watching your videos! Thank you so much.
Debby, string quilts are so PRETTY! I agree, and thanks so much! ☀️
Your quilt tops turned out so cute!! ❤😊

2 beautiful scrappy quilts - makes my heart sing to see all those fabrics play so nicely together! 🥰

@Juliatepe5760 Thank you! Me too! But if not I know where I can borrow a spare! ☀️🧵
I love this scrap method. The blocks look great and it fits well with the other parts of scraps. thanks for showing.

Thank you so much Karen! ☀️ on a. Scrap quilt like this there’s no telling if your result size would match mine! 😂. I think this was about 55” square.

Good morning Annette, watching from New Zealand. Absolutely love your scrap quilts. I have made several and love them all. Happy sewing.
Thank you! You too! ☀️. More coming soon! 🤣🤣🤣. Love using up the scraps, but they multiply so fast! ♻️
I am a scrap quilter, just can’t waste a single piece😊
I know what you mean! I hate to throw any fabric out. But I have a REALLY small space, so I have to get them moved out regularly! ☀️☀️☀️
LOVE the Blue Birds!

Thank you so much, Mirea! 😊
Did you trim your strips to be straight an the same width for the whole length before starting to piece them together?
For this quilt I did not. I just grabbed from my scrap bin and did not trim widths. Yesterday, I cut a BUNCH of 2.5" wide strips from some 'ugly' fabric and will be making a strip tube quilt from those soon. So sometimes I do use fixed width.
Liked the look of the two smaller quilts than the first idea that you had ❤😊
Exactly! Me too! ☀️
Watching you was so beautiful and relaxing, I fell asleep and missed the end. Your quilts are lovely and inspiring, just wish I had such a “stash”!
Aww thanks so much! I have fallen asleep before, while reviewing and editing my videos.... So you are definitely not alone! ☀️☀️☀️ Thank you!
Both of these are fantabulous!!!
Thank you for showing and inspiring us.

What a great idea using a piano key border for the first finished quilt you showed.
And the second one is so interesting and creative. Love both. ❤❤❤
Glad you liked it! ☀️
They look wonderful. 💕
Thank you, Sandy! 🤗
Thank you. I make strip quilts from scraps too. I enjoyed watching you process.

Jennifer it’s good to be ready! Scraps accumulate faster than you might think. Have fun with your quilting! 😀
Wonderful! It's such a fun way to spend time! ☀️🧵

Much more efficient to just make 10” strip squares in the first place😊
☀️ Indeed it would, if you were advance planning. I did not plan this in advance.☀️
Are you even a quilter if there is no cat in the house????
Heck no! HAHA.
I enjoy your teaching style and the outcome of this project. The music is atrocious and disteacting.
