Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year old Simon Spier it’s a little more complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Trang Khuc that is how some parents react when their kids come out as gay so when those kids came out as straight that’s how their parents reacted - don’t know if that made sense soz
@Lulu Faraday it's meant to basically swap the reactions of parents/family when they're told their kid is gay. A lot of parents are angry when their kids come out, homophobia and all, so this calls them out basically saying that why is it such a big thing when your kid is gay and not when their straight. People assume their kids are straight and get angry when they're not so this is swapping that to show how ridiculous the default of being straight is. In this scene being straight is shown as what being gay is though as; weird, against religion and 'wrong' to show the stupidity of it all.

The movie looks amazing, but I'm just sad that Simon uses his own name when emailing to Blue. In the Book he uses Jacques. Also, his email address is frommywindow1, and in the book it was hourtohour.notenote, which was a hint of Elliott Smith's song for Blue.

Becky confirmed that the name 'Simon' is just used for the trailers. He does use the 'jacques' secret identity in the film it's just for clarity in the trailers. Also! I'm pretty sure that if you look on Simon's chalkboard wall in some of the trailers you can see the words 'Hour to hour, note to note." on his wall.

what makes me sad about this is that blue doesn't call simon "jacques" like he does in the book. basically the whole point of the book is that they don't know who the other is, and in this, blue has simon's name
yeah what's that about? That's the whole point of the book...? I guess he works out it's Simon earlier than him, but still it kind of kills the suspense.
It’s a voice over just for the trailer, because people who have not read the book will be confused by Jacques...

Mete Yıldırım ya but from what I’ve seen from people that went to the pre screening the movie still keeps the exact tone of the book and all the changes they did were actually good so I’m hyped as all hell
Out of everything I’m just a little pissed the whole drunk scene reaction and the Abby was changed because that was a cause and effect for a lot of things in the book😭😭 but if the author loved it then is probably gonna be great im super exited for it!!
