@@drip2424 because 70+% of the population is white dipshit. What are they supposed to be, Chinese? Why aren't more black people being cops to help police and protect the citizens in their own neighborhoods from gang violence? I think you know why.
I am so angry with Hollywood changing the part with Khalil and the officer. In the book Khalil just went to the window and asked Starr if she was okay.HE DID NOT GRAB THE BRUSH JUST TO MAKE HER LAUGH.This is just a Hollywood add which completely change the story!!!This is so sad
Yeah true. In the book Khalil is so nervous and scared he barely dares to do anything. He’s just worried for her. They make it as if he thinks it’s a joke in the movie adaptation. ?
Karen Herrick I’m not black but if you’re white you don’t truly understand the pain that black peoples have to face. We say we understand it but we don’t understand what they fully go through because it doesn’t happen to us. But we have to stand with black people until their voices are heard ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
People are saying “this hits different after...” and “this is happening now/again”. It’s always been happening, the world is full of so many racist people and the justice system is corrupt
You sure cause were i live the goverment is corrupt bad people get away with it while those who work hard are taken everything away from them i wish i had the justice system that the united states has but it looks like if your not gratefull for that think twice before saying something
I’d love to see a movie starring Amanda , Yara Shahidi , China Anne McClain, Zendaya, & Skai Jackson. Beautiful young black girls with substance and class. We don’t have enough positive influences for young girls and unfortunately their work gets overshadowed by mess and filth. I really hope this movie does well 🙏
Trin May23 yes it does. When you take mixed people and make them the face of black women, it’s a problem. It’s called colorism. It’s the same mentality of the house slave and the field slave. The light ones were the “preferred” and that’s a problem. It just farther spreads self hate unto black people. Dark skinned men and woman not wanting to have kids with somebody their complexion, because they think it’s ugly, out of fear of having kids with that complexion. It’s real. Which is why a lot of dark skinned people grow up wanting to be lighter, (I was in that group, but not anymore) because they associate it with being white, and therefore, better.
I hate that Khalil reached for the brush and was joking around about it. That didn’t happen in the book. It’s a small detail, but it really matters. In the book, the brush is simply in the car. Having him reach in for the brush just gives the cop a reason to shoot him. I can’t get over that detail.
The piece from that book shouldn’t be changed in the movie, because it makes a big difference in what people think of the story itself. It made Khalil look like someone different.
I saw this around the beginning of this year, watched it again in March. And now watched it again today after all that's been happening. Always makes me cry in the end.
It's not current. This has been happening over and over again for decades. We've just finally developed the technology accessible enough for the general public so that the victims can be heard and seen.
@@CodyG. Yes, you can. Whether it was in the movie, where the officer never told him to drop what he was reaching for before opening fire, or George Floyd, where the officer didn't listen to him beg for his life and lift his knee despite being handcuffed, officers are notoriously more likely to use deadly force on black people.
Just finished the book yesterday. for those of you haven't read it. YOU NEED TO. It is an amazing story that will make you cry, laugh, and open your eyes to the racism people still deal with.
This movie is talking about a serious message, yet some people are complaining about the actress being light skin. In fairness I've never read the book, but apparently no one is sure what Star looks like. On the cover it's a dark-skinned girl, but some say she was light others say dark. Black is black no matter what shade you are. I'm sure this pointless topic all started when black family comedies replaced a dark-skinned actress with a light-skinned one. I found that annoying myself as well, but this movie shouldn't be judged on whether the girls skin is too light. Being black isn't about the shade of your skin or where you live or how you talk. It's about being who you are.
Dark skinned people go through more hardship than lighter skinned black people, and they barely have any representation in the media. Star is supposed to be a dark skinned female, but when Hollywood thinks of black people they see her or Zendaya.
Kermit this whole dark versus light thing honestly has been going on since slavery times. In those days if you had a white daddy you’d have a decent education and probably gotten free much quicker. We’ve all had our struggles, some more than others. Even though those two girls happen to be mix no black person in the US is 100 black. A bullet doesn’t care what shade your skin pigment is
Check out "When They See Us" about the Central Park 5 on Netflix if you haven't already. I cried out loud like the ugly cry. Crazy part is seeing white people still getting defensive when it could be so healing and empowering even for them to just say "I'm sorry" and change the behavior.
Man this movie sent me out of the movie theater crying. It’s crazy how this movie came out almost 3 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday. I got picked up from school, told I was going to see this movie, and complained. But when I walked out, I saw everything and everyone differently yk? It truly had a message that would hit you hard if you understood it. And now this is one of my favorite movies.
Whoa whoa.. there was no hairbrush in the book. Why does Hollywood always have to add their own flare. The whole point was that he didn't do ANYTHING to give the officer suspicion.
@Sarcasm Patrol I disagree. Found that the book was way better then the movie. It touched on more scenes. Khalil was scared shitless of the cop aswell. The movie made it seem like this was a joke and justifying the cops actions lol.
@@poly8899 but he didn't pick up the hairbrush in the book. in the movie he picked up the hairbrush and joked with it, but in the book he solely went to the window to ask if starr was okay. and that small detail completely changes what happened to khalil. in the book it is solely an unjustified killing because he was asking starr if he was okay. in the movie it is possible to argue that it was justified because the cop wasn't to know if it was a hairbrush or a gun. that's the one thing i really hated about the movie - as well as devante not being there - but apart from those two details, it was a powerful, emotional movie that i really loved.
I mean, movies would be boring if they did everything in the book word for word. That's why they got to change up some stuff. But I agree. Having Kahlil pick up the brush was a terrible idea.
At least now a days it’s recognized and talked about to the world. Back in the days, no one had a voice or whatsoever. Today everything can be fixed (it takes time but it does) because we post about it and make it heard. Most importantly it gets HEARD
This story is so inspiring, and as someone who has never had to experience racism the most eye-opening story I’ve ever had the privilege to watch/read. I’m very glad it’s on my school curriculum. It breaks my heart that people have to go through oppression like this
to all the people complaining about amandla’s skin color: in the book she was described as a *medium caramel* skinned girl. i get that the book cover had a darker skinned girl, but maybe you should actually take the time to read a book instead of judging it by it’s cover
Ummm Okurrr but the point is dont have a darkskin girl on the cover if you described her differently. Like why would you have a darkskin girl on the cover but not cast one in the book?
Samari Price make a character in your head and then go casting and see how many years it takes to find anyone similar to what is in your head for that character, go ahead, try
Allison Vinave I have a whole list of darkskin women that would've fit the description and the cover. So you might wanna try again cuz that wasn't it sis.
More like ironic coming from the left who likes to sensor us conservatives who don’t hate blacks but don’t believe this movie is a true representation of the polices relationship with blacks
I read the book and it really touched me. As a white from one of the most safest countries on earth (Nordic lands) it made me realize how badly things are still going on here and how there's still a lot of racism on this Earth. The book made me feel I should do something but it also made me feel so small. I guess all I can do and the best way to help the situation is to be open minded and do anything I can to stop racism and learn.
@Leslie Kramer Well I am an African teenager who has a white friend who is kind and anti racist and does not practice white fascism so I don't agree that every white person is racist and practices white fascism, let's just show love to each other and stop the hate. Live & Love✌✌✌💖💖
@adam zarbon I would definitely encourage people not to break the law but then why is it that even for a minor crime black people do i.e a teenager shop lifting due to his financial condition, the American police are fully on guard and ready to pull the trigger if in their perspective~"necessary" when arresting them like I don't get it because they are so calmly behaving like a human with a white law breaker and are at peace when arresting them. Don't even start with, it's coz black people act though with the police that doesn't make them shoot at a human being. When they are arresting white people they do it respectfully whereas they like to drag or be rough with a black law breaker. Why? Cause they are a bunch of racists!( Sorry if my Grammar is wack, English isn't my native!)
@adam zarbon I would agree but you got to admit when it comes to excessive force police tend to be far more aggressive with black folks even if we are following instructions.

The movie, the book, both of them are perfect. Ive owned the book for a bit before actually reading it, and before I knew there was a movie. The first time I watched the movie, I was in tears. It was some time in 2020 during the BLM protest - and as a young black girl you can imagine how it all felt. Especially being a young black girl who also felt like I had to separate my two identities from the world. If i could watch this movie for the first time again, I would do so without hesitation. If you have the time, I'd recommend watching the movie or reading the book. Personally, the book goes into deeper detail about everything and feels more like real life instead of actors reading off of a script. 10/10
I'm currently trying to make my way through it, and it's even harder to get through than conspiracy of blood and smoke... all this pain is soooo hard to read
Memories are... to important ღ after just breathe, take a break, and then you go back and read, the story of this book is heavy, and all you need to get through it is breathe, don't know if it'll help, but it worked with me.
in my middle school ELA class we had book clubs for social issues. i was placed in the book club for The Hate U Give. We were supposed to read it in parts at a time but i got so invested in the book that i read the whole thing the same week we got it. its so eye opening and now i see the things my friends and family and even i do that are wrong. thank you, Angie Thomas, and any other writer who is bringing these issues to light. you're all saints.

Just finished watching this movie. I wasn’t trying to see it. Because I knew the content would make me mad. This was put together well. I was mad. I was sad. Even cried a few parts. But I’m glad I watched it.
in terms of black female protagonist I love Amandla ...but in entertainment we always see zendaya or Amandla play these roles for black women ! I pray soon enough we can see other women of color get these roles because there are a lot of us who are as important and as credible we gotta represent all of our people not just the beautiful mixed black beauties because that’s what they are ❤️ I’m so excited for this and love her and can’t wait!
yann m YES YES EXACTLY. She's amazing but the author herself describes Starr as a brown skin black girl with kinky hair. And it's very annoying that other black actresses are over looked even when roles are SUPPOSED to be catered toward them
They are now working on a book to movie adaptation on the novel “The Sun is Also a Star” by Nicola Yoon and the main character is black and will not be played by Amandla nor Zendaya. I forgot the girl’s name but definetly go check that out.
Princess Saniyya Folk I know it s kind of alarming that the entertainment business is still in that mindset or even was in that mindset ...but not surprising. I’m happy for her and Z representing us and zendaya even bought this up which is great that she recognizes that and is fighting for ALL of us beautiful brownskinned young women
So the book illustrates the struggle of this girl as she tries to balance the pressures of being not-black-enough and too-black. Combing through the comments, I see people using the same arguments that make Starr uncomfortable in her neighborhood, school, and society. I'm really looking forward to the movie, and I'm hoping that we learn something about ourselves when we watch it.
If your white and in any kind of authority l, you'll definebntly learn that you're a horrible, racist person. At least that kind of seems whats the message. That the police are horrible and racist.
Yankee J.P no, it's just because he reached on back into the car, instead the black guy should have followed the cops orders. It's the black guys fault that he got shot. What he did was really stupid and the cop thought he would pull out a weapon.
FrostFlakejr A) I'm 13, so what can you expect? B) I was being sarcastic!!!!! I was making a joke that this movie is showing white officers as horrible people.
I don’t understand why they changed the scene where the cop pulls him over, in the book Khalil never reached into the car to grab the hairbrush. By changing it I feel like it’s not giving the story justice, because if a person were to reach for something in their car in real life it would be a much different scenario than the one in the book and some people would think that the shooting may have been justified in some way, the thing that makes Starr’s story so messed up is the fact that they didn’t do anything wrong. If this was just a way to include the hairbrush in there they could’ve done it differently.
The real story, the one in the book, never had Khalil, the boy who was shot, grab the hairbrush. The only thing he did was check on Starr to asks if she was okay. I have no idea why the movie changed it because people who haven’t read the book will now interpret it wrong and may say the shooting was justified but that isn’t what actually happened. If you read the book you can clearly see that the police officer was being excessive and more aggressive than was necessary. The cop was not doing his job right. The reason everyone was protesting and rioting was because this was a 16 year old black kid living in a neighborhood that was known for drugs, violence, etc, and that was ultimately the reason he was shot, due to racial profiling the cop just assumed they were bad kids and they were up to no good. And let’s be honest if this were a white person or a person with light skin this would not have been the result, there are steps that need to be taken and there’s proper protocol for everything. Because he was a black man he was automatically suspected. And to the people who may say that the cop was scared for his life, that’s not a reason to take the life of a kid, of a living breathing person, because of an error in judgment. Cops are properly trained for those types of situations, and what the cop did in this story was clearly wrong and misguided. So no, no it was not his fault that he got shot, he didn’t point the gun at himself.
Gabby T. The movie appears to add more nuance but it really doesn't when you analyze it. He reached for an object but he never aimed it at the cop, he was facing the girl in the car the whole time. If a cop sees the slightest movement that's not even aimed at him and perceives it as a threat, he was already jumpy and thought they were potential threats to begin with. Besides, who wants a country where the slightest movement equals being shot?
Trev Scott The cop put him in a spot where he wasn't suppose to move. He moved and reached in the car for in object. Its dark so he can't see that well...
BiteSize__ I could understand if the cop was literally right next to him, and interpreted a sudden movement at close range as an attack, the same way you'd be startled if I snuck up on you. Yet if I'm quite a few feet away from you and you can't stop, look, and assess the situation before firing a lethal weapon then you're just a jumpy scary coward. I legally own a firearm, I don't shoot the cat at the edge of my driveway at 4AM cause "it suddenly moved (even though it was 20ft. away from me) and I thought it was a threat".
No hate to Amandla (or Zendaya she's my idol), I'm super hype to see this movie, but It's always Zendaya or Amandla that's cast as black women in movies. Even when the character is specified as medium brown/cocoa color they still choose one of Hollywood's "typical" black girls. As a dark skin teen who was super psyched for a dark skin or medium skin girl to play the role, I was a little disappointed, but not surprised, by their choice for the lead role. Amandla's gonna be amazing though, no hate towards her at all, I'm still super psyched to see it. I just wish they would venture out and discover all the amazing dark skinned actresses that could do this role just as well and fit the description in the book. It's more than just skin tone, it shows the implicit effect of colorism in society and the movie industry.
Coming from someone who isn't really black. It''s not what the mainstream media represents. Black people notice a lightskin issue cause they will always look for it. It seems like more an issue between your own race rather that a real world issue. Most notable black women are "darkskin". When any other race tells you who comes to mind when you think black women. Movies, politics, music etc. Both positive and negative it's a dark skin woman. They probably can't even name 5 light skin women or anyone beisdes beyonce. I don't see the dudes complaining about thisL
This movie is not anti-police. It’s anti-police brutality. The main character had a lot of healthy conversations with her uncle who is a cop. This book also goes into why things are the way they are. Yes, it’s fiction, but it’s meant to being awareness to many true events.
Doesn't seem like they made it obvious it was fiction. Police officers just want to do there job and keep people safe but the Americans seem to blame them for everything
I think police brutality exists but doesn’t happen that often. Like I know there are racist police offices I’m not denying that. But just for a minute put yourself in the place of a police officer chasing someone down saying “put your hands behind your back” and they aren’t listening. Now imagine that the person you’ve been chasing down after resisting arrest stops and starts to reach for something. Now what they’re reaching for may or may not be a gun, knife, etc but as a police officer fearing for his/her thinking that they’re about to pull a weapon out as the police officer with a gun are you going to wait to find out? Also during this ordeal how much does the race of this person matter with the greater context?
TEMM bruh smh. This is a movie 95% of movies are Fiction. Typically when it is a non-fictional movie. The producers will put the is a true story. But any ways. The real reason for my response was simply that in urban neighborhoods predominantly minority’s most of the police are racist and usually break the laws bend the truth and set up people who they feel are Thugs. The system is rigged for one race to win. The truth is in the pudding. I’m not speaking out of malice or hate. It’s the truth and it hurts people who are for the establishment in hand. Willie Lynch rules still apply. Bless up
Double Disappointment I feel your statement on white people getting killed too. You have to look at the numbers in it’s entirety. There are more white or Caucasians in our population. So when you look at how many Minority’s vs how many non minority’s are being killed the ratios are unreasonable and apparently nobody cares that minority’s are being exterminated by a racist regime who are paid to kill and get paid time off. Just look at the FBI numbers for yourself. Bless up
G Gab Yes but doesn’t the fact that more unarmed whites then unarmed blacks are killed by police equal out. I understand and agree with your statement on how there more whites then blacks in the population but again doesn’t that mean the fact that more whites than blacks are killed mean that it equals out to same frequency of killings?
This is one of those movies that I think everyone should have to watch, regardless of race, age, or beliefs. You owe it to yourself to watch it at some point. Or at least read the book.
Pokémon Hunter Its for everyone who wants to watch it lmao And those people are just mix with black. They aint 100% black. Look at their faces are mix mix Ethnicity
"it's the same story, just a different name" justice for Sir George Floyd, the man was unarmed and means no harm yet he was killed. this makes my heart ache so much
@@saberfan I want to verify what happened to him was absolutely unacceptable and I fully support BLM, but he was a big criminal. He was arrested multiple times for drug possession, was on drugs at the time he was killed and had threatened a pregnant lady holding a gun to her stomach.
I agree but that man who was shot asked for it basically. He pulled out the brush on purpose even with a smile. He didnt think before he did it. I wouldn't blame the officer at all.
Pretty Much it’s crazy that we live in a world that someone reaching for a hairbrush is enough reason for someone to think he deserves to get shot. I hope this sick mentality changes. I hope white American officers stop killing black men so easily.

Usecriticalthinking read the book. He didn’t dance, he was confused and asked the officer questions. He turned to Starr and asked her if she was okay, and that’s when the cop shot him. Sure, he should’ve listened to the cop, but he also has a right to know why he’s being pulled over.
I LOVE that name! It's so inspiring for any child that has that name. When life knocks them down all you got to do as a parent is remind them of is why they are named "star" lol. Shining brighter than any problems life throws at them from the time they are born! Destined for greatness. You got to be an idiot for NOT naming your child star and refusing to instill confidence in them when the world tells them otherwise.
I just finish watched this movie, I've been crying for the entire movie. I am an asian and I didn't lives in the countries with this kind of problem. But I felt the pain that Starr got. She felt guilty but scared at the same time, she wants to do somethjng but she is afraid for what happen next and she still took all the risk, she is stood for her friends, family, especially for herself even tho the cope & the entire society in there didn't hear her voice, she still stood for the justice. THIS MOVIE IS A WHOLESOME, THE ACTING, THE ACTRESSES & ACTORS, THE SCENARIOS ARE EXCELLENT. I am in tear rn.

Books and their movies about these themes will always create controversy and a strong debate, but please remember that events like these are actually real, they happen all the time these days, unfortunately, and this is a story that needs to be told. So, before you share your hateful thoughts about the movie, make sure you have read the book/understand its message so you know why it's important that this movie hits theaters.
I hope this movie actually handles the subject properly and not just "Cops are evil" and "people should become violent to get their point across" because both of those things are extremely harmful and will turn this into another "13 reasons why" situation.
If the kid listened he would have been just fine. Now dont get me wrong some cops are like this. But not all of them and on top of that, those rioting make it even worse.
FrozenGallows I didn't say or mean 'all cops are bad', I just talked about the situation in general. And to me (as a reader of the book) the rioting is kind of a symbol (in the book) for the main character's frustration, whether or not it's the right reaction is a different story. there are different voices about rioting in the book (whether it's a good reaction or not) so I think/hope they will be present in the movie as well.
TableWrens I agree. The book does a proper job of that I think, the trailer looks more violent to me than the book, so I hope they include the nuances you adress as well, e.g. there are different voices in the book about whether or not rioting is a good idea so I hope they include these important parts.
This looks really good and I can’t wait to see this but it’s kinda sad that after years of progress in other fields of our country, racial inequality is still so much alive... I know this movie is gonna being so much awareness and I hope people respond positively in actions, I’m gonna read the book !
Tracy Burnquist Being black myself i can kind of see what your saying. But picture this, if your born in a area with crime and bad influence and you go to a school that doesnt give you proper education how do you think you'll turn out?
How is a story like this supposed to make me feel bad for cops shooting unarmed black men? The boy who was shot in the movie wasn't following orders which gives the cops reasonable suspicion that the man was pulling out a gun. I've never read the book so maybe there is something else to it but from what I can tell the kid being shot was reasonable. I'm not saying in the real world a cop should have killed the kid in a situation like this, I'm just saying that the cop isn't the only one to blame.
You should read the book. It is amazing and I am glad that it looks like they stayed true to the book. The book, and I hope the movie, brings up many topics that we, as a society, need to talk about and address.
Didn't know there was a book about it, but I'm gonna read it. This seems very accurate about the world we are living in.... (and this is scary asf). Also, I love this actress Amanda
You're gonna love the book, Angie Thomas first book, its been selling like crazy since last year, and her manuscript was so popular that she got the movie deal before the book came out, her new book come out in Feb set in the same neighborhood, It's called On the come up, and You're gonna love The hate u give

To exit to movie theater and thrown into the 2 for dollar bin at Walmart. This crap will be on DVD 2 weeks after opening...even strong black people are tired of this victim narrative.
All the comments talking about him deserving the shooting because he didn't put his hands up but does that small act mean his murder was justified?? This is a MURDER. HIS LIFE WAS TAKEN AWAY. It's not a small matter
Doesn't justify it, but makes you realise the cop most likely did it out of fear rather than malice. If he'd of done what he was told, then he would most likely be living. Although there are cases where black men have done everything they're told and still got killed. Sick sad world :( I hope things will change but seems unlikely with the current political mess.
I dont even reach for my registration without asking if I can get it. (I drive a truck and i have to hop over the middle seat to get to it in the glove compartment). Not an excuse for murder, but still. People know there's a problem and they antagonize instead of respect it enough to find a solution.
After watching the movie I learned it isn’t just an issue between the black community and the cops but also an issue within the black community itself with gangs and drugs. It’s highlighted that there are good cops and bad cops, and it also showed that drugs and gang violence can tear a community apart. Every story has multiple sides and it is good to take it from different prospectives. It is not a movie about “Cops being evil” and it is also not a “Black people are beings that can do no wrong” I don’t want to spoil the movie, but please if you go and see it, do not take it as a hate message against cops. I will love to know everyone else’s opinion on the movie.
Anyone who actually reads a synopsis of the book would know this as well. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Of course, many who needed to read it won’t (or wont care because they’ve already made up their minds)
avril but he served his years in prison. do you think that justifies what the police did to him? ITS RACISM. if you killed someone and you went to prison, served your years, and someone killed you because of a petty crime, do you think that’s right? if you do, then i don’t know what goes through your head all day. it’s not an eye for an eye.
avril you’re exaggerating the word “massive criminal” and there are way more african americans that were killed and wrongfully treated bc of their skin color AND most of them had no criminal record. it sound like you just trying to find an excuse to be racist
I’m saying in every role where there’s a young black female lead there’s amandla I’m a huge fan of hers but she’s starting to feel like a token or safe space for casting
think of it this way: the more she gets cast, the more she can become a big name in the movie world, which hollywood LOVES. think anne hathaway, jennifer lawrence, scarlett johanssen, who literally get cast for EVERYthing. if amandla can get to that level of fame, then big feature films may choose her in leading roles over big-name white actresses.
God, this movie was so much & SOOOO NEEDED TO SEE!! This was real, emotional & current. Thank you for making this. My 13 year old son was watching it & I sat with him to see.

I just watched the movie the other day and im reading the book now, and so far, I'm still as stunned as I got when I watched the movie T.T books always have more details, but I appreaciate the movie too.
The whole hairbrush/Khalil being shot scene made a huge difference between the book and the movie. I agree that people should try the book first before watching the movie.
I neeeeeed to read this book, everyone says how poignant and powerful it is. Speaking as a white woman, novels like these are so important. We need the stories of all races, abilities, sexualities, genders, and backgrounds told, and preferably told by those who have the same or similar experiences. The Hate U Give had been high up on the NYT bestseller list for over a year. Angie Thomas, the author of THUG, is truly and inspiration. I cannot wait to read the book and see the movie, and I wish it so much success!
Really loved this movie. Conveys and depicts powerful messages about racism and police brutality. All the actors and actresses in the movie did a really amazing job. ❤
I really wish people would go watch the movie instead of judging the movie by the trailer. It's way more to the story than the trailer. It literally showed races becoming unified and standing up for each other. It showed how black people can turn their backs on each other. So no, this isn't talking about just whites. It talked about how our black community's problems. Just go see the movie. Yall haven't even given the movie a chance. You just assumed what it was about. It's irritating.
Oh Aleena You are right, so many people are judging the movie by a 2 minute trailer and assume that it is black victimization and paints whites as evil.
Oh Aleena yea but I heard she was dating a white boy and she ran with him to get out of the hood at the end. The movie tells me is okay to go to a white school and date white peoples. The movie shows no black love any where but problems.
Alex Ruby if you are excited for a movie that makes all of us, all law enforcement officers make like murderers and evil people, then you are supporting that very thought process. Police officers are not murderers and evil people. We do a job. We enforce the law to protect other people usually at the cost of Our Lives. More than a hundred officers are killed every year. I asked you to go to Washington and look at the Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. This subject disobeyed lawful law enforcement commands reach into a vehicle to retrieve something, the officer might have reasonably believe it was a weapon. This entire situation could have been avoided by the subject obeying the officers command, but instead we are blaming the police officer for doing exactly what he was trained to do
mike ggg look u make a great point about this, but I'm just excited for the movie to come out ok? I know what it's about and I have an opinion about it. I never said about supporting anything I just said I was excited to see it.

Yeet before this movie was out and it was like, just the book, I was thinking that Yara would be a good candidate for Starr Carter.

It made Khalil look like someone different.

hi
this is just a reminder of this comment and this movie ❤
THIS COMMENT !
.
The character says she is mixed. End this pointless arguement, snowflakes.

It was some time in 2020 during the BLM protest - and as a young black girl you can imagine how it all felt. in terms of black female protagonist I love Amandla ...but in entertainment we always see zendaya or Amandla play these roles for black women !
Jelke Lenaerts thank you so much ! I will try and find it that makes me feel good! ❤️
Angie Thomas literally had Amandla in mind when writing the book so if she's happy with the casting, why can't we? It is her book after all
So the book illustrates the struggle of this girl as she tries to balance the pressures of being not-black-enough and too-black.
Yankee J.P also I'm white and not a horrible and racist person, you're just ignorant.
FrostFlakejr A) I'm 13, so what can you expect? B) I was being sarcastic!!!!! I was making a joke that this movie is showing white officers as horrible people.
Yankee J.P well I can't hear sarcasm over the internet, you should have atleast put *sarcasm* at the end of your comment.
They probably had to change a few things to avoid getting sued...
this is one of the most powerful and unforgettable movies ever with a great cast too
No hate to Amandla (or Zendaya she's my idol), I'm super hype to see this movie, but It's always Zendaya or Amandla that's cast as black women in movies.
And Sabrina Carpenter ♥
TBH, I don't think medium-brown is an easy shade to pinpoint; everyone has their own interpretation.

My religious beliefs is what I owe to myself I am a Muslim

I agree but that man who was shot asked for it basically. He pulled out the brush on purpose even with a smile. He didnt think before he did it. I wouldn't blame the officer at all.

I hope this movie actually handles the subject properly and not just "Cops are evil" and "people should become violent to get their point across" because both of those things are extremely harmful and will turn this into another "13 reasons why" situation.
well said
If the kid listened he would have been just fine.
Lexi C it destroys me the kinds of blind cruelty that are still alive and flourishing in our world and in our country.
The persistence of inequality almost makes it seem like the culture of the people who are oppressed is a major factor in what keeps them struggling.
No it’s not
Tracy Burnquist Being black myself i can kind of see what your saying.
I'm not saying in the real world a cop should have killed the kid in a situation like this, I'm just saying that the cop isn't the only one to blame.
i was 14 when i first watched this movie and it made me cry in a way that no other movie has ever made me cry. its truly a masterpiece.

You mean the black gang who was selling dealing drugs threatening the black family right?
All the comments talking about him deserving the shooting because he didn't put his hands up but does that small act mean his murder was justified?? This is a MURDER. HIS LIFE WAS TAKEN AWAY. It's not a small matter
OnceBlinkExoL Exo this is why black people (mainly men) fear for there life everyday.
Realistic fiction
Saw this movie a few hours ago. I was in tears from the very start. I stubbed my toe as I sat down.
It is not a movie about “Cops being evil” and it is also not a “Black people are beings that can do no wrong”
I don’t want to spoil the movie, but please if you go and see it, do not take it as a hate message against cops. I will love to know everyone else’s opinion on the movie.

Oh Aleena yea but I heard she was dating a white boy and she ran with him to get out of the hood at the end. The movie tells me is okay to go to a white school and date white peoples. The movie shows no black love any where but problems.
Read the book, excited for the movie 😝
Alex Ruby congratulations on hating law enforcement. When someone breaks into your house, please call the local drug dealer
mike ggg ??
Alex Ruby if you are excited for a movie that makes all of us, all law enforcement officers make like murderers and evil people, then you are supporting that very thought process. Police officers are not murderers and evil people. We do a job. We enforce the law to protect other people usually at the cost of Our Lives. More than a hundred officers are killed every year. I asked you to go to Washington and look at the Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. This subject disobeyed lawful law enforcement commands reach into a vehicle to retrieve something, the officer might have reasonably believe it was a weapon. This entire situation could have been avoided by the subject obeying the officers command, but instead we are blaming the police officer for doing exactly what he was trained to do
Kristi Bega The hate u give Xx
mike ggg look u make a great point about this, but I'm just excited for the movie to come out ok? I know what it's about and I have an opinion about it. I never said about supporting anything I just said I was excited to see it.
