black parents having to tell their kids what to do when they get pulled over is probably the saddest thing ever
I understand your reaction to that scene, I got terribly sad during a number of scenes. We are a white couple and don't live in a city, but we've given that talk to our son, too. And when I've been pulled over or otherwise come into contact with police, I have on a few occasions been treated rather poorly, if not mildly threatened, for no reason - I follow those same instructions that the parents in the movie gave. Racism or not, angry and aggressive cops can be anywhere, and so it's good advice to give to anyone. You never know who you're going to run into....BUT, things are pretty quiet around here, and I don't have to fear the police - or getting robbed walking down the street.
gfoer Thats cool, but don't try to minimize racism. There is a difference in the conversations black people have with their kids about police. Racism exists. No matter how uncomfortable it makes you or how ignorant you can try to be. And cops were historically known for NOT having the purpose of protecting us. Or else Tulsa Black Wall Street would not have been able to be completely massacred. Finding a way to relate (which you were clearly not doing) is one thing, but don't ever try and take away from our story. And you need to actually watch this movie and educate yourself if you can even allow yourself to think that way.
gfoer I don’t quite think your confrontations are equal to those of black people, at all. By now..you should know that.
@@c.6267 I didn't say that, so please don't put words in my mouth. I am not trying to minimize the experiences of our black population. Quite the contrary. I AM concerned about the lack of nuance in the conversations around racism, police violence (and many other issues..). If you are open to it, here is one honest attempt by a very thoughtful person to tease out some of these nuances:
ruclips.net/video/vmgxtcbc4iU/видео.html
It is perhaps more important now than ever to really listen and hear each other in order to create a more just world. Peace
@@dreamyanon5151 i find it odd that when people speak of racism, as you do here, they often use sweeping generalisations. Why is that?
I love how her hometown has a warm light to it, while the school has this sad cool tone
Yes!!!! It’s little things like this that can make a powerful movie
It's like 13 reasons why when Hannah was alive it had this tone and when she died everything was a cold blue like the light left
What you said was powerful.
You are right about that I have watch that hole movie my hole family
true! This was a super creative choice...I like how it represents how she feels safe and free in her hometown while at this school she feels stiffled and trapped.
Black is beautiful 🤘🏿🤘🏾🤘🏽

Not all...
@realperson.dll nah man u need to not make those comments
realperson.dll don’t judge people on the colour of their skin
realperson.dll either way he said blacks are beautiful so idk why you coming at him like that?
@realperson.dll stfu!
Their father might be an ex convict, but his love for his kids and his family is unmeasurable. You can’t unsee it.
Tell me bout 🥺😩💓
Might be a sign on never judge a book by its cover.
exactly
Just cause he a felon don’t mean he wouldn’t love his kids that’s wild
Can we just give Amandla Stenberg her Oscar right now, please? Can we make that happen?
exactly!!! they better make it happen!! the hate u give was an amazing movie! I'm only 17 and it made me cry from beginning to end!!
She deserved one for her performance. Even Russell hornsby deserves the supporting actor
As long as we're talking about movies and people that deserve Oscars, can we talk about how YA book-to-movie adaptations NEVER get the credit they deserve at the Oscars? "The Hunger Games" and "The Fault in Our Stars" are some of the greatest YA movies of all time, with Oscar-worthy performances by Jennifer Lawrence and Shailene Woodley, and yet... Hopefully, "The Hate U Give", given its subject matter and incredible performances, will fix that. Fingers crossed!
Yeah
KingdomHeartsFan3211 i kinda thing she's too young
“slang makes them cool, slang makes me hood” that is powerful. I will continue to educate myself and change for the better. As a white person, I understand that WE are the ones that need to change what WE’VE been taught.
Suburban whites who speak urban black slang sound very stupid, to everybody.
thankyou
@@sangredelic Because they think are black, they want to be edgy. But some grow up in the hood though.
@@sangredelic exactly...it makes me cringe

''10 FULL MINUTES''
- Whole clip is 8:29...
Lol
Lol u want ur money back 2 i want the full movie lmaoo
ikr like what is this 😂
Lol
I read the book and loved it. I thought they would ruin the film since they usually end up changing stuff in adaptations but I was so surprised. Yes there were minor changes but it didn’t take away the message. There were a few scenes where I even felt like crying. This deserved to be nominated for the Golden Globes. Deserves to be nominated for an Oscar.
I read the book too. But I didn't like that they scrapped Devante or that Chris wasn't there with her during the protest. That was supposed to represent that he cared for Starr and her struggles.
@@yessica5231 True that. I also didn't like this other thing they did where Khalil gets to the car and picks up a handbrush. HE DIDN'T. He only came to ask if Starr was okay.
@@chickenstrips7618 I didn’t like it when Starr had Hailey with the hairbrush over her head because in the book she actually fought
Being black is a blessing 🙏🏾🙏🏿🙏🏿
Not always...
Yes
Here we don't struggle I live in Africa
Being black means being speacial but she is so pretty
@Constance Holcomb stfu
It always kills me when Starr walks into the school, because at 6:10, she takes off her hood, and she takes off her _hood,_ all in one movement. It's easy to miss, but it's powerful.
Oooooo I think I get what u mean
@@Justgoogleit_ i dont get it :(
@@beep.boopwall hood has a double meaning....where she lives and her literal hoodie.....but I guess they were hinting more on where she lives

Lol I draw and make ocs and the idea of drawing poc is so fun (maybe because I am poc) but drawing people of color is so fu to draw and doing research on there history is fun

I just realized that the mom is Brenda from Scary Movie.
Ommggmb sammeee
and dad's from Lincoln height
Where the two minutes at?
"10 full minutes" yet the video is 8 minutes 29 seconds long....
Idk if I’ll get hate for this but does this really happen in black households? Is there a talk that black parents give to their kids like? I’m just wondering so I have a better understanding.
I’m not black but I have heard a lot of black families do give this talk to their kids
Can u do a 20 minute one ? Because this wasn't 10 minutes 😂😂😂
The fact that they have to talk to them about that mess
Black is BEAUTIFUL!
Sure is
Just like every shade. A person is not a color they are a shade in which their skin is pigmented we are all beautiful no matter what we look like.
I grew up with black neighbors and they are my family. I learned a lot from them growing up and I knew about everything they went through. Everytime I was invited to their house for New Year's, 4th of July, or Halloween, I also took care to learn and understand who they were. They are my family. I am biracial and I experience the world differently then they do. This movie was more of an awakening to me about what they go through. I first heard about the talk when I was 12. I understood why they told their kids that, but I didn't understand how bad it really was. We are all human. We should treat each other as such.
It would have been better without the narration. Whole movie was simple i didn't get why they had to narrate what was going on. But otherwise pretty good movie.
Every kid at that school got on my nerves in this scene lmao. Its literally every white washed school in america
This is like, one of the only acceptable movie adaptions of a book
End racism
This book made me cry so when I heard it was getting a movie with MY FAV ACTRESS-

this movie changed me in so many ways
Why ?
Can't wait to finish the book! This looks AWESOME!!
Terrible movie. The book was amazing but the movie gives off a pretentious ugly tone, with slow-mos and music sequences that serve no purpose

Not being a racist is not okay. You have to be anti-racist in order to bring a difference. Everyone matters.
Did you know Starr is Rue from the Hunger Games?
You know, it would be nice if they actually meant ten minutes for once
This movie is beautiful, it really shows us what black people go through, it also shows that black people don't always do wrong things, and even if people say were all the same.. were not. Were different and unique in different ways, all lives matter.. no matter what they do but in this case, the officers that do this, there wrong, wrong to the point that they should be able to just stay where they are and put THERE hands up.
I’m Mexican and I also got a similar talk like this. It sad that at a young age we have to be told this. #blacklivesmatter
black is beautiful and races don’t exist all humans are one. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BLACK AND WHITE we are all different and we are all special.i see no difference between us we are all humans don’t judge by colour
