Might I say, I LOVE this. I'm a psychology major and plenty of people seem to think that all schizophrenics are crazy and dangerous. They act like schizophrenics can't live perfectly content lives ... and a movie like this shows just how scared and anxious a majority of people with schizophrenia actually are. It also shows how they want the same exact thing as every other person - to live their lives. We ALL have obstacles that come and go in our lives ... and struggles with mental health is something that EVERYBODY goes through. Schizophrenics just go through it more than others ... but they're NOT "insane" or "freaks." I once had a guy friend with schizophrenia and he told me that he couldn't believe just how kind I was towards him ... because he was SO used to being avoided and picked on for his disorder. All I did was say back, "You're not crazy. You're just sick." ... And that meant SO MUCH to him. I hope to see this movie one day, most definitely!! The message seems very powerful and realistic!!
I didn't realize how harmful stigmas were for mental health until I was hospitalized. Some people literally think they're like asylums. Naw fam, I came back to school a week later and everyone was like "wtf?"
I'm not sure how bad are good this movie is going to be, but it is nice to see a depiction of schizophrenia in a movie that isn't used as an excuse to explain why somebody is a murderer

Yea pretty much, guy/girl has a disorder/illness, guy/girl isolates, Meets guy/girl, they fall in love, she/he doesn’t want to hurt him/ her so he/she pushes her/him away, “give me a chance to love y-“ Yada yada, you seen one love story you’ve seen most of them. Only thing new in this is the schizophrenia which is really interesting
It's based off the book and its OK, she's real 😂 if you want a story with that kind of twist I'd recommend Made You Up it has a similar premise but doesn't have a movie yet
Just finished watching this movie. My mother also had schizophrenia. Glad she is doing fine now. And to those who's family or friends are diagnosed do watch this movie and help them. All they need is us to be around to understand and love them.
I don’t cry because of movies EVER but just the trailer has me crying. This is like watching a movie of my own life. I struggled with hallucinations all through elementary and middle school until I had my psychotic break and was hospitalized. After that hospitalization I changed schools because of all of the rumors floating around about me but that didn’t work because the rumors were just the same at my new school. I had a hard time getting close to people because I was scared they would leave me when they found out about my illness. I recently fell in love with the most amazing person on this planet and it’s hard because I’m scared that my illness will push this person away but just like the girl in this film, he loves me for who I am and can see past my illness. Absolutely crying.
I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 16. I didn’t tell people for so long because I didn’t want people to compare me to a “psycho killer” or something like that. It’s so nice that I can relate to this movie.
Just watched this movie and it is beautiful. It's one of those movies that actually sheds light on mental illness instead of shying away from it. It is real, funny, sad, and just moving. As someone who deals with mental illness and is tired of seeing countless movies/shows make a mockery of it or give misinformation for "drama and entertainment," I related to this movie. Plus all the performances were amazing, especially Charlie Plummer.
Just watched this. The end left me in tears. The movie was raw, candid, and did not shy away from showing the battles fought in co-existing with the disorder. I hope this starts the trend of creating more movies that approach mental illness with a frank honesty.
Talking about schizophrenia in a healthy manner by not making him seem like a psycho path and an interracial relationship? I'm game!!! Just let me know the release date😂😂😎
I watched this for the first time yesterday and fell in love with this movie and how the how mental illness is actually explained and understood… bravo to the actors and director and writer. Everyone involved for not making mental illness look soooo horrible
Awww this looks so good. I've never watched a movie from the perspective of someone with Schizophrenia. So I'm interested to see what I learn from this!
As a schizophrenic girl this is pretty true to my experience I did really see words all over the psych ward walls and on the tables. I did stand in the middle of the street and every time I said a mistruth ALL the street lights and lights of all the cars would switch off and when I told the truth they would all come on. I have felt earthquakes happening that made me totally sick and felt like the end of the world but only I could feel it. I have walked on a path and an Asian boy busker appeared he was a phantom with those most otherworldly incredible singing I ever heard in my life filling the street, I have looked on the floor and seen mermaids in huge visions and visions of different time periods on the ground too. I have been suddenly able to sing in Arabic with some magical quality to it, I have heard loud ancient music coming out of all the cars. When people tel me this film is too dramatic and far fetched, I don’t get that, because my episodes were all impossible magic. I have a mystical outlook and treat it is as it was known for thousands of years, as a spiritual illness or in my culture a spiritual emergence, it just means your liminal and can see in between worlds, that you have sharper senses into the spirit world, nothing more. This society has become so hyperrational and masculine it can’t bear a spiritual view or the truth snd medicalises everything. Psychiatry ignores thousands of years of spiritual traditions that explain these states.
YES! I’ve started to realize that so so so many things deemed to be “illnesses” in this culture, are not inherently so. Yes schizophrenia makes life difficult when you are trying to fit into western society that has no room for special people. But there are plenty of societies that have and do experience and hold schizophrenia as a gift and power. Those cultures are not “delusion” or “confused.” To say so is eurocentric and colonial. So sad to see our people of spiritual power be cast to the streets. That says a lot about this culture… that’s why were killing the earth too. No one wants to open their eyes, or their minds, or their hearts! :(
For those who didn’t know, this movie is actually based on a book(it says so at the end). It is an amazing book and i hope they do the story justice. If you’re interested in this story i would recommend you read it as well as watch the movie.
Agreed! I really hope the movie producers and director doesn’t butcher the intent and meaning behind accurately portraying a mental illness with strong negative depictions amongst the general public, despite not being as “dangerous” as the media has portrayed before.
FINALLY IVE BEEN LOOKING FIR SOMEONE WHI HAS READ THIS it’s an incredible book but it does seem like they changed a lot already I don’t really mind the ethnicity change in both of them but even the opening scene they really made it way more over the top than it was
Right ?! Sometimes I think they display it all to draw people in fear the central idea n’ basic gist won’t be enough. Like back in day they explained main idea had faith people would like the basic concept to come watch the detailed full movie. With movies being so quickly produce, and lets face it, usually containing pretty similar elements...I feel the trailers have display more details (giving the movie away) but desperately trying to stand out and draw folks in.
I know that’s what me and my family are always saying but I do want to know sort of what it’s like. They should make 2 trailers, one like this and one where they don’t spoil everything in the trailer
Sooooo basically the trailer said he has a normal life, has an episode, finds out he’s schizophrenic, has a hard time adjusting and living with his changing environments and his meds, doesn’t cook anymore?, finds a friend, falls in love, breaks it off, finds love again with the same girl, and quits his meds, now he has the hang of his new normal? Why do trailers have to spoil the entire movie 🥺
@@hannahbittner8741 look, I'm an avid reader, I LOVE to read. Anyway, reading is not a hobby for everyone. But it is definitely a hobby that I've personally enjoyed for years

Just so you all know, this movie is about the book "Words on the Bathroom Walls" by Julia Walton. Its an amazing read and I completely recommend. I haven't watched the movie but the book really is amazing.
AnnaSophia Robb, Charlie Plummer, Taylor Russell, and many others have delivered such immersive performances in this movie. A very accurate yet not too subtle representation of schizophrenia in the media. They're often labelled as crazy, while that may be true in some way, they do not mean to cause harm to other people or their loved ones. Thoroughly enjoyed this-well, technically speaking, I guess it's more informative than entertaining in any sense of the word there is.
wait. wait this is so cute actually. its such a pleasant surprise to see a film where the person with mental illnesses (in this case schizophrenia) is not put as a villain or a murderer.
Many people here said that the trailer contained the entire plot, but you can't just say you understand something because you know something. Watch the movie, people. It is so much worth it.

RainyDays2 Bro, just go to the library. Any pdf file or audio file you find for free online is illegal, which is fine to do if it’s a mainstream TV/MOVIE, but authors dont get as much love, rep, or exposure as media.
Baby Cat Libraries are open. You just have to wear a mask and check in. Not just that, but they have online apps where you can check books out for a limited time. Or you can get an e-book, or purchase the audiobook. Why thieve from a struggling artist/author, who doesn’t get as much exposure or money? Edit: also you used that meme wrong, lmao. How foolish
As someone who’s spent a lot of time during high school in and out of mental hospitals, it’s nice to see a depiction of mental illness a) from the perspective of the person with the disorder and b) where it’s not dehumanizing or monsterizing. It can be hard to hold the balance of your life and goals and ambitions when it feels like there’s a huge weight you can’t even talk about. During some hospitalizations, feeling like I was crazy literally made my depression 2x worse - and I’ve known way too many people who felt the same way. I’m glad to see a movie like this because it shows the internal conflict and our own reactions to our conditions, not just what other people see. I’m really hoping this movie will shed a lot of light on the feelings of people with schizophrenia -and other disorders, to some extent -very well. I just saw this as an ad on insta but now I’m Really looking forward to this and Need to read the book.
This trailer came on tv and took me by surprise. I grew up with a schizophrenic parent, and having to watch time and time again schizophrenics be portrayed as crazed/dangerous/murderous characters in movies/shows always bothered me. There are so many people out there in the world with this mental illness who, on their medication, live good lives. It is chronic and very hard to live with, but they still exist and do not deserve the negative stigma which Hollywood has placed over them in the past. I look forward to seeing this and hope it sheds some light and fair awareness on the true nature of schizophrenics, that they deserve compassion, understanding, and love.
I read this book my freshman year and I am beyond thrilled that there going to make it a movie!! It’s still hands down one of my favorite books I’ve read.
I love movies like this because I have cancer and I really need this for some reason. And this looks like something I need to watch. Who knows it might give me hope😌
They BETTER include his stepfather. I loved this book and their relationship was one of my favorite parts. Also he had a whole other best friend at the school too. I really loved his relationship with maya, but that wasn’t all there was to this book and I really hope they don’t make it just about him and maya when there was more to the story.
I completely agree with you. I hope they don't only focus on maya and adam relationship when there's more to it. I also like adam and his step dad paul's relationship and there is a place in book where paul considers adam as his own son. Even though adam sometimes being rude his step dad, his step dad doesn't care about it. Also I like his best friend dwight. He is one of a kind friend that he has.
My aunt who had Schizophrenia passed away this year... she was the most wonderful and hilarious person besides my dad that I have ever met. She was an artist as well and would make the cutest and sweetest cards with cartoon animals on them and loved her cats and talked and sang to the birds. Her husband adored her and cared for her and she died to cardiovascular problems/smoking and diabetes. We need to dispel the stigma about these people. The worst part was the times I noticed her condition the most was when she was paranoid about that maybe my mom or other adults told me about her, afraid I may think she was dangerous :( when in fact she was the most loving adoring, creative, and hilarious people I will ever meet. Rest in Peace, Laura
This hits hard because my uncle had schizophrenia and he almost committed suicide. He was alone for a moment in his apartment and suddenly he said he saw the FBI crashing in from the walls and the roof flew open and a helicopter was circling the sky. He said that the microwave blew up and the world around him was on fire. Then he took the pills so he wouldn't have to die from the fire. I'm so sorry Uncle it took me years to understand you.
I just saw this movie with my husband and older son…. Everything was perfectly explained and narrated. These great actors showed the sadly reality of what schizophrenics live everyday! 😔💔 Please let us all be understanding, respectful and kind to each other! 💝
This brought tears to my eyes, because my boyfriend who had schizophrenia and was a complete atheist was set free and healed by Jesus in December and we fell in love. That torment can be healed by a good and loving God.
i just watched the movie and....wow....this is incredible, it's well written and you will fall in love with the characters honestly i highly recommend it
I had serotonin syndrome from adhd meds and hallucinated all sorts of crazy things. It was crazy.. like seeing holograms but in intricate details. can't imagine living like that all your life
Hang on have we actually got an interracial romance with a black female and no mention of the colour of their skin - wow I’m so excited to watch this didn’t think they’d do this again since ‘Everything Everything’
A graphic and intensely moving portrayal of 17 year old Adam's struggle with schizophrenia and his attempts to deny and hide his illness from friends and family. Visual and auditory hallucinations at times overwhelm the scene but thankfully, in the film, are in bite sized chunks. I cannot fathom an hour or a day of this to say nothing of weeks, months and potentially years. Andy Garcia plays the priest at the private Catholic school where Adam was sent to finish his senior year and realizes (almost too late) that Adam is not just being disrespectful or flippant in their interactions and he steps up to the plate and commits to care and to try to understand. The film is rated PG-13 because of the depictions of what it is like to live with mental illness and I believe there are valuable lessons here for most teens and adults.
@@SP-df1nm I know of the condition but I don’t know anyone with it or have it myself. However, if anyone does have it, I hope they watch it and see if this is a realistic observation of what it is really like. Other than that, I do feel that I have a better understanding of it and hope this spreads awareness!
I want to see this very badly now!!!! So genuinely romantic and the best part... it hints about the healing power of Confession and that your Catholic priests will always be there for you!!!!

@@ricantaino8474 oh wow I’m glad my comment helped to prompt you to watch it!! It’s a great movie and you have great taste for picking it!
Looks really good but I feel like I just watched the movie by trailer.
Alondra Martinez I was just about to comment that I wished they didn’t include the entire plot
Right!?! Like it literally feels like I just watched the movie.
me too it’s like i watched the whole movie in 3 minutes
Like they could have left it off at the fact she was a tutor and they were friends
Hear me out about a possible twist ending...what if she’s not real 😳
She is!
Oh that would be so sad 😭
It's based off the book and its OK, she's real 😂 if you want a story with that kind of twist I'd recommend Made You Up it has a similar premise but doesn't have a movie yet
Bro i was thinking the same thing
Liz Colburn dang, I was really hoping it had that kinda twist in the movie! It would make this movie ten times greater
Sending you love, light, and strength. You got this girl.
Plus all the performances were amazing, especially Charlie Plummer.
the way he sighed his head into her shoulder when they were dancing- andjanjsnzjsjdb 🥺.
I suffer from major depression and anxiety and no one loved me until I met this boy. He loves me for me and I can relate to this a lot
Just watched this. The end left me in tears. The movie was raw, candid, and did not shy away from showing the battles fought in co-existing with the disorder. I hope this starts the trend of creating more movies that approach mental illness with a frank honesty.
I kinda wish that they didn't include the "i love you" scene in the trailer..

Talking about schizophrenia in a healthy manner by not making him seem like a psycho path and an interracial relationship? I'm game!!! Just let me know the release date😂😂😎
originally july 31st, then august 7, now out in theatres august 27 (bc of corona rip) :):)

Is it really an “interracial” relationship if she’s dating her own race though ? Haha
She’s half white !! 💕

I watched this for the first time yesterday and fell in love with this movie and how the how mental illness is actually explained and understood… bravo to the actors and director and writer. Everyone involved for not making mental illness look soooo horrible
“Hey, I’m right here!”
I need that in my life
The movie looks good but they spoiled the entire plot with this trailer
Ikr
Exactly 1 minute would have been enough to express the movie
Literally
exactly cause it showed that he got better and was cured like they put too much in it
Yeah, I've read the book, and even I felt spoiled by the unnecessary length
Awww this looks so good. I've never watched a movie from the perspective of someone with Schizophrenia. So I'm interested to see what I learn from this!
Look up " Beautiful MInd" it is a real life story
I highly suggest "Beautiful Mind" and "Brain on Fire." 😁😊
@@autumnemerald1019 Brain on Fire is not about schizophrenia.
The Soloist is another one. Jamie Fox plays a schizophrenia homeless man who plays the violin.
AutumnEmerald 101 her mind is on fire and it’s a true story but it’s not schiz
I read this book when it first came out and I keep rereading cause it’s just so good I recommend going out and buying the book before watching this!
What is the book's title?
Jocelinne Arias Same as the movie title

i swear the main character is like a mix of chad michael murray and kj apa but with logan lerman’s voice
Oh my god you nailed it 😄😄😃

For those who didn’t know, this movie is actually based on a book(it says so at the end). It is an amazing book and i hope they do the story justice. If you’re interested in this story i would recommend you read it as well as watch the movie.
Agreed! I really hope the movie producers and director doesn’t butcher the intent and meaning behind accurately portraying a mental illness with strong negative depictions amongst the general public, despite not being as “dangerous” as the media has portrayed before.
FINALLY IVE BEEN LOOKING FIR SOMEONE WHI HAS READ THIS it’s an incredible book but it does seem like they changed a lot already I don’t really mind the ethnicity change in both of them but even the opening scene they really made it way more over the top than it was
As always they do if they make a movie based on books , it’s not likely the same ... Book was way better always 💋
@@R사 not always... most of the time, yes, but not *_always._*
I’d there a free copy of it online?
i might watch the movie but cmon what is up with these trailers giving away the entire movie? it’s all i ever see within any trailer now
Yeah, now I'm like... "This seems cool, but it also seems like I've already watched it"
Trueeeee
I know that’s what me and my family are always saying but I do want to know sort of what it’s like. They should make 2 trailers, one like this and one where they don’t spoil everything in the trailer
Frrr
Now that I’ve watched the whole movie, I can’t wait for a sequel!
Frr they gave the whole movie away in the trailer 🤣🤣

Omggg I'm here for Devon, but the movie looks soooo cute😭
Sooooo basically the trailer said he has a normal life, has an episode, finds out he’s schizophrenic, has a hard time adjusting and living with his changing environments and his meds, doesn’t cook anymore?, finds a friend, falls in love, breaks it off, finds love again with the same girl, and quits his meds, now he has the hang of his new normal? Why do trailers have to spoil the entire movie 🥺
geedizzy it’s literally based on a book why don’t you read it

@@hannahbittner8741 look, I'm an avid reader, I LOVE to read. But I do not believe that it is necessary for everyone to read a book before, or even after they watch the movie adaptation... most of the time (there are a few examples where the movie is so bad, that I dont want people to associate that story with the awful adaption... that only happens rarely though.)

Literally me and my husband but it’s clinical depression. 🥺 I’m there for him no matter how bad it gets, even though he wants better for me 😞
I’m so glad people are making movies that portray mental illnesses in a better light! I can’t wait to see this movie 🥰
wait. wait this is so cute actually. its such a pleasant surprise to see a film where the person with mental illnesses (in this case schizophrenia) is not put as a villain or a murderer.
This movie looks absolutely amazing. Its one of the only ads i dont skip when i get it.
Many people here said that the trailer contained the entire plot, but you can't just say you understand something because you know something.
Watch the movie, people. It is so much worth it.
Aw. The part where he says “you see him right?” Totally reminds me of the movie A Beautiful Mind.

I really enjoyed the book can’t wait to see the movie
do you know where you can read it online or is it just hard copies from a local library???
How foolish
May jane Ik, which is why I explained that an online pdf would be illegal
By far one of the most honest depictions of a mental illness, truly enjoy it. Also the colors and the Van Gogh reference!
this book is so good. im excited for the adaptation
Honestly I love this trailer, can't wait for the movie ♡
When does it come out? The date to be exact.
IMDB says July 31st, which is the day theaters are currently set to reopen. That could easily change again, though.
I Pray Who ever reads this becomes successful. God bless you💓
I read this book my freshman year and I am beyond thrilled that there going to make it a movie!!
@@pussinboots220 hey this movie will be released this year?
Why does Adam look like a western version of hyunjin to me

I read this book for a report in my English class this year and I absolutely loved it!! So glad it’s being made into a movie
As someone with it, I am happy to see you portraying it in a positive light that doesn't make us look like monsters
I had serotonin syndrome from adhd meds and hallucinated all sorts of crazy things. It was crazy.. like seeing holograms but in intricate details. can't imagine living like that all your life

Love that they went with an integrated couple.
Also he looks and sounds just like young Chad Michael Murray! Like wow!
Thought I was the only one who sees the resemblance
I’ve watch the movie and I absolutely loved it! Had me in tears - both sad and happy! Highly recommended you won’t regret it.
Just curious, do you have experience with schizo or have you heard of it before?
@@SP-df1nm I know of the condition but I don’t know anyone with it or have it myself.
