    It was the very beginning of the year 1912. A giant chunk of ice broke off a glacier in southwest Greenland. It was a huge thing - more than 1,700 ft long, it weighed around 75 million tons! Btw, out of 15,000 to 30,000 icebergs that drift away from Greenland’s glaciers, only 1% ever makes it all the way to the Atlantic. That's why it's so amazing that in April that the iceberg that sank the Titanic was already more than 1,500 miles away from the Arctic Circle!
    Several days before our iceberg made it to the Atlantic Ocean, a magnificent ship left port. It was Titanic. Meanwhile, the iceberg was approaching the area the Titanic was going to cross on its way to New York. It happened on April, 14 when the ship was in the North Atlantic Ocean. At about 11.40 PM, people who were still awake on board the Titanic toppled down, pushed over by some mysterious and powerful force. We al know what was that. But do you know what happened to the iceberg after the Titanic hit it?

    When Titanic contacted the iceberg, NO body was catapulted anywhere. It was hardly felt. Many people were totally unaware that she’d hit anything, until after she stopped, owing to the engines having been put astern, causing her to lose way, already. She stopped, gently, well past the Iceberg, and people most of whom were asleep and or in their cabins or berths, were told then.

    actually, according to survivors, the hit of the iceberg was barley felt by most people and no one was panicking after the hit, bc it was barley felt, so most people were just confused or didn’t believe there was any real danger. so no one fell from the strike, and also it was a moonless night.

    No one panicked, nor were they thrown from their bunks when the liner struck the iceberg. Few even felt the impact. Those who did described it as a grinding sound as if the ship was traveling across a field of marbles. A slight shutter. By the time Titanic coasted to a stop, the iceberg was a mile behind her.

      Yes this video is a bit off.

    • @N-L3
      @N-L3 Год назад +2

      Yes that is correct, the ship struck it on the starboard side and that tore open some of the already weakened metal from how cold the water was. Now if it had just hit the iceberg head ON then yeah that would be more accurate. Also after the ship hit the iceberg, the telegraphs were put back at half speed for a short while before the generator rooms began to flood and the steam was not being produced by the boilers anymore.

  • @NegiTaiMetal011
    @NegiTaiMetal011 3 года назад +64

    A few things to know about what had happened:
    - The iceberg wasn't spotted until 11:39 PM.
    - The engines were not ordered in reverse as it disrupts the flow in which to turn. The order was, in actuality, to stop.
    - The compartments weren't exactly flooded at an alarming rate during the collision. Why it progressed is because when the ship's begins going down, the port holes remained open, allowing water to flow and spread quicker.

      the third isn't totally true though....remember it was an extremely cold night. Most of the port holes would be closed. Yes a few might have stayed open, since we have witnesses talking about opening them for a breeze and noticing the breeze stop, still most would be closed. The real increase in sinking speed was the gangway door. It was ordered to be opened, but the guy who was sent to open It disappeared after and it was forgot about.

      @@Sweeptoken light holler had this idea that he could send half filled lifeboats over there to fill up with more passengers so he sent someone to open it. Then he completely forgot about it, didnt send anyone to organize passengers or boats to pick them up.
      Really it comes off as a random order he gave then forgot about.
      I think I heard that more water actually entered from that door then from all the iceberg damage. This might not be true, but it definitely cost them time and lives.

    The iceberg is believed to have been lager than Titanic. Some witnesses say the tip of the berg was about as tall as the funnels.
    Underneath, it would've been much taller than the ship was long.
    It's mass would've been exceptionally larger than the ship, like hitting an undersea rock.

      no, I think it went to a small town in the southern United states, and decided to change its' name and it went into hiding. then, a few years later, it opened up a restaurant chain, and that's the story of how McDonald's was created. also this is why the icecream machines at McDonald's never work. the icecream is a relative of the iceberg, so to protect the icecream, the iceberg made sure that the machines wouldn't let people get the icecream out of them.

    This is the only source I’ve ever seen that indicates people fell over on the floor, or were catapulted out of bed upon collision. It’s also the only video I’ve seen that claims there was immediate panic from both passengers and crew after impact. Doesn’t sound right to me. Every other source says some people felt a tremor and some barely noticed anything. This sounds more accurate, because there was NOT immediate panic.

    2:48, that is actually not really factual. During the collision with the iceberg only a very slight vibration even if any at all was noticeable. Most passengers didn't even notice the minuscule shaking/vibration. They continued to dine, as nothing was happening.

    When the ship hit the iceberg, people hardly noticed it, they weren’t thrown to the floor or out of bed. The people did not run and scream, they had to be put in the lifeboats because they didn’t think the ship was going to sink. The screaming didn’t happen until the ship was going under.
    If part of this video isn’t true, how much isn’t?
    There is actually a picture of what people on the Carpathia thought was the iceberg. There is what appears to be a red smudge on it as well.

    A few years before the ship sank there was an extremely high spring tide. It was because the way the moon and earth were aligned at the time. The moon was really close, wasn't that close in several centuries. That caused large amounts of ice and icebergs to break off from Greenland, way more than in a normal year. All that ice caused the surrounding water to stay cold for much longer, and the ice to last longer.

    I wonder if there was any awareness of this particular iceberg in the days, weeks, months, or even years prior to colliding with the Titanic? Anything special about it, or was it just one of many similar icebergs?
    Just suppose the Titanic missed this particular iceberg, what was the likelihood it would have hit a similar iceberg soon thereafter?
    I heard it was a moonless night and very difficult for those on watch to see any icebergs in the water.
    It’s funny that it seems the Titanic had the best of everything in terms of interior appointments and furnishings, yet no high power spotlights at the disposal of those on watch to help them spot icebergs far enough in advance that evasive action would result in preventing the collision that resulted in the total loss of the ship and its precious human cargo.

  • @loveandlife9840
    @loveandlife9840 11 месяцев назад +3

    It seems like the Titanic was destined to sink. (There were so many coincidences related to it as well: the locked binocular room, having a fire before its voyage took place and the iceberg hitting that exact location, missing some crusial iceberg warnings, maintaining high speed)

    Something I wanna say is that the SS New York was not moving during Titanic leaving Southampton, it was docked along with another White Star Liner named “Oceanic II.” As Titanic passed by the two ships, due to the rapid water displacement from the propellers, New York was being pulled towards the Titanic’s stern, but lucky it was stopped a few feet before hitting the Titanic.

    • @connashio1
