- In this video we will try out a mint 35 year old Minolta beauty. The 500mm reflex mirror. It is the only AF mirror lens ever made for any camera system. Of course Sony re-released this very same lens in 2006, but that was not a new lens. The bokeh on this lens is special. So is Tom. You can check out both in this video.
Back in the day, I loved Minolta gear. That lens is in the right hands now. Beautiful results, Gary. You scored well. :-)

I dont understand all the camera talk but that's some cool pictures. And you're so happy about that lens, awesome.
You can add limited AF to any old glass. I have an old 500mm mirror Tokina lens for canon FD mount, that I'm using on my Sony A7III with the LM EA7 adapter. That way I have limited autofocus capabilities that helps me nail critical focus on tricky subjects. I managed to capture slow moving animals and birds on trees with this combo. Not easy but doable.

Great video Gary. Out of curiosity did you do any post of the photos you posted? Contrast and colors looks very good... but better that what have seen from other mirror lenses out of the camera.
Thanks for effort you made me to buy and I got mine today around $90 here in Japan but I felt little 🥵 during purchasing LA-EA5 adapter just for this single lens (i'm a6000 & a6600 user) 😎
Nice video! I have the Sony 500 version, bought new in 2010 just before they discontinued them. It will accept the Kenko 1.4 DGX teleconverter, but with no useable autofocus.
Regarding teleconverters: I have a Kenko x2 teleconverter that is able to be used on my A77II with this Minolta AF 500mm F8 Reflex. You do loose AF of course because the lens will effectively become a 1000mm F16 lens.
Pretty nice workaround using those extension tubes. Will this lens work properly with the a99ii .. even with a teleconverter without the extension tube .. ?
"Foilage"! Gets me every time. I googled it. No, it's not a real word. Maybe I need to use a Canadian dictionary? Anyway, those are some beautiful shots of foilage.
