Two things: 1) If Isaac had a beard, he could be Sam's twin. Love that he was also learning. 2) ANGELA! You are so blessed to have a man who can admit his errors and learn from them.
Very cool that you had Isaac to help you. I'll bet that made him feel very important. It was also very cool to let him see you admit you made the mistakes. That way he will know that if he makes mistakes, it's not the end of the world. You are a good dad Sam!!
I was surprised to see a carport installed on piers. Having the tractor, I probably would have tried to do some grading, and then poured two continuous footers on flattened ground. I hope everything holds up with time.👍
Isaac, your a great helper for your dad and I bet mom as well. Keep helping and learning from dad and you'll go far So important to learn these skills So many young men don't even know what a hammer is. Way to go dude!
Honestly who cares if it is off a little. It’s a very nice carport and you will enjoy it even if it’s off. Plant some flowers around the ones that bug you so you can’t see the imperfections. Be proud of yourself and your accomplishments. As a past homeschool teacher I love it that you and Angela are not only doing the book part of learning but also hands on learning part. Your kids will be better prepared for life because you have taught them how to do things for themselves. Keep up the good work.
I think you spent a reasonable amount of time and effort getting it as good as you could. It looks fine to me. If it still bothers you, plant some boxwoods along the footings or box in the footings with metal siding.
Sam you are pretty hard on yourself, a perfectionist always is ! So good to see Isaac being involved, you have very bright little guys there ! I will be sending out another order next week 👍
Just presented an embellishment opportunity. Hedges. Flower boxes. Stacked stones. Gravel built up. Or metal skirting. All good. As long as it still supports the structure, you’re good! I still think it needs walls and big garage doors. ❤❤❤❤❤
if you ever do this kind of job again , stake borads on line of your peirs then do the other side , when you have your tubes in hole back fill around them will keep them in place and you can get your squear lined up and move any not just right
To the naked eye, Sam looks fantastic. Being a perfectionist sucks, doesn’t it? I’m one too and we lose sleep because of it. Don’t kick yourself too much. Life goes on👍
I saw that in the build video and wondered what the issue was. It was your first time doing piers. Next time if you do you will know the process. God bless you all with your much needed shelter.
Thinking of ways to gussy it up...put box forms around the piers and add more concrete (may not stick well to old concrete) or fill in between piers with landscape timbers/railroad ties. Best option, level that ground up to top of piers with crushed stone/lime mix.
I was thinking the same thing… or what about doing those rock cages (Gabion basket) around the piers, maybe mortar in a layer of rock at the weak edges and ‘cheat’ the cages to give it all a centered look. Issac may need a calculator tho’, to help with that one! 😆
The carport looks good. The diagonal measurement being off is probably from the crew trying to adjust to keep the uprights from being off from the piers. With the anchoring holes being drilled 6" off from where you expected them to be, they probably "fudged" to keep the anchors in the piers as best as they could. Lots of unknowns and learning in this project. Don't beat yourself up. It's a carport, not a watch. Thanks for the video
We have considered buying a car port recently. I am so glad you are sharing what you learned. Thank you! I look forward to seeing your next video! Isaac is so cute! Good job, Buddy for doing such a good job helping Dad! Take care, guys! God Bless!
Oh man, so much prep work with those piers. It's good it still works, though! That's the main thing! Love Isaac's little vignette with the spider and his Jedi cap, goin' inside now 😄
Thank you for this video. We have recently started talking about building such a structure. You gave us good information and items to clarify with the manufacturer/installers.
LOVE that you are having Isaac help you! IF my calculations are correct - off 3" out of 241" - 1.24% - NOT significant... MOVING right along... Isaac is great at doing quality control on the strength of the braces - GOOD WORK JEDI MASTER!
Issac You were a Great Record Keeper & I for one think You deserve an A+ for Math this qtr. SAM, I don't know anything about building that Carport Barn ? But, AS LONG as the Integrity of the Building is NOT compromised-I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT That Issac is definitely A Mini You! God Bless You All...
Hey! This is a great learning experience for both of you. I made a similar mistake building my first deck. I had asked a friend for advice on digging the piers. Long story short, my take away was "8ft on centers". That's how I dig my concrete piers. When he came to look at my work, he asked what my thought process was, then informed me that only the inner piers are constructed that way. The outers have a shorter span. He ended up helping me build the thing, and with some clever positioning off the joists we avoided cutting down 10 foot lumber to make 8 footers 3 inches longer. He also made it a cantilever design and got me an extra 2 feet of depth. Thanks James!
It looks fine. No one will notice it in the future unless you tell them. The most important thing is that it functions properly and It certainly does. 😊 Isaac is a real cutie. He reminds me of my youngest grandson. Your boys are a real blessing. 😊
I just finished building a 50’x60’ pole barn. I had several piers that were off a bit - a couple by quite a bit. It was my first time and I learned a ton. I got the building itself square but had a couple of poles that I didn’t plumb correctly and my fascia is a bit wavy. Lots of other mistakes made along the way. In the end, the building is sound and looks good. One of the things that I can share is that I learned a lot more from the mistakes than from the things I did correctly. Thanks for sharing. It takes a good man to admit that publicly and I just wanted to share that you aren’t alone
Over size the holes than you can set the sono tubes where you want them it happens to all of us still nice job and keep teaching the little guy we need them
Great job anyway, it came out great and rust free from being installed on the ground. Glad also that the roof panels are running up and down. The other type that run horizontal is cheaper but comes with the disadvantage that leafs will be stuck, not be able to run off and create a leaf pile and eventually rust and leak. Great choice.
This is amazing! I hadn't considered lining up the piers with the legs - I am not making piers 4 ft subterrain but did plan on driving earth achors between piers. Also my carport is only half this size. I feel so much more confident about this project now having seen it done and turn out even better than I envisioned. I actually was starting to make some design changes due to my trepidations I was looking into composite footing pads and precast and composite piers or posts and I'm really relieved to know that my original plan will suffice. It was a pleasure seein this I'm gonna go ahead and sub with the idea that great minds think alike!
A little confused. But then I am recovering from encephalitis! Lol! In n earlier video you showed the build done, sidewalls even. I think you did fine. It will serve you for years. Enjoy. Love that you are humble to admit you were wrong. Enjoy moving in!
I did this with a fence i put up at my first house, luckily I didnt pour any concrete for the posts so i could pull them all and reset. What a PIA. Doing it myself i fell off center on the first post and it multiplied so much that by the end post I wasn’t even close to the post with the panel. Kinda stinks that those tubes are so large and permanent but they still work. Just be glad you didnt wet set any brackets into the posts.
If you should want to do this again, I’d recommend setting the 4 corners and getting the box square, then setting the individual piers. The anchor bolt hole positions should have been called out on the plans. It’s best to have the columns on top of the piers to transfer the load correctly. Anyway, nice looking carport and kudos for showing that even dads can be wrong.
It looks great and will serve its purpose well. It takes a big man to admit his mistakes; Sam, you’re a big man…..in only the nicest of ways! Great job Isaac!!!!!! You’re a big helper👍🏽
Sam that saying goes if you're afraid to make a mistake you'll never learn anything. I think you did a great job and maybe you can even get the carport company to put those specs for the pre-drilled holes on their plan so that the next person will know.🎓
Sam, we also moved to Tennessee last year and my husband and I are so impressed with how much you and Angela have accomplished! Also your young son is growing up to be a fine young man.
The open ends on bottom should be filled. Keep from anything building a nest in there. Nothing is perfect and it all worked out. All of ya’ll work is paying off. Keep motivated. Great channel. Looking forward to see how you fill it up.
My dad would have been so careful, measure measure measure... then if it ended up off, he'd say "ehh, it ain't no church!" LOL. Nice homeschool lesson with all the math! Love the spider.
I have installed 3 of these and I know that there is a lot of "slack" when sliding the components together. They are pretty simple on a flat pad because you can build each section on top of the first one to use as a template. I did a 25x25 last summer on a gravel area but I leveled the whole area first to make it easier. Even when all your components are close to perfect, getting it square can be tough. You need to really pay attention and get the first panel on perfectly. Like not even a sixteenth off. At 20', that 1/16 turns into 1.25"
Well Sam, no one is perfect, but I can't remember when you have ever made a mistake, so I would call this one a miss communication with the contractor, but your structure still looks great 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Sam - go to a metal store and get a piece of steel channel that is the total length of the carport. Anchor that into the column, then bolt the carport to the channel. It will be strong enough.
Next time you use tube forms, get the tubes exactly in place fastened to a form board. Then lock them there by backfilling with some decomposed granite. It compresses really well, just pouring it in the hole around the tube. Mine didn't move a bit when I filled them up with the concrete pump hose. You can drill some new holes through the frame into the pier and add another concrete anchor, to get one nearer the center of the pier.
Two things: 1) If Isaac had a beard, he could be Sam's twin. Love that he was also learning. 2) ANGELA! You are so blessed to have a man who can admit his errors and learn from them.
Isaac's smile and intro at the beginning just brightened up my whole day. He looks very genuinely happy to be helping you
It’s okay Sam, we all make mistakes. It looks great.
You had the smartest and cutest helper on site. Great job Isaac.
Very cool that you had Isaac to help you. I'll bet that made him feel very important. It was also very cool to let him see you admit you made the mistakes. That way he will know that if he makes mistakes, it's not the end of the world. You are a good dad Sam!!
Your helper looks just like you. Nice to have a great helper like that!! ❤
I was surprised to see a carport installed on piers. Having the tractor, I probably would have tried to do some grading, and then poured two continuous footers on flattened ground. I hope everything holds up with time.👍
I was thinking the same thing..
Isaac, your a great helper for your dad and I bet mom as well. Keep helping and learning from dad and you'll go far So important to learn these skills

he's a blessing and so proud he helped dad ,awesome

Precision is important.
Love the feral boys! Thank you Sam ! Love it!
It's always fun to work with the little ones, y'all did great.
None of us are perfect. You all are close enough. Absolutely beautiful family. ❤
I think you spent a reasonable amount of time and effort getting it as good as you could. It looks fine to me. If it still bothers you, plant some boxwoods along the footings or box in the footings with metal siding.
If it cant be seen did it even happen 😂
IT DOES NOT LOOK FINE. **MY BLIND GRANDMA CAN SEE BETTER THAN YOU!!**
Nice little helper! Good job Isaac.
💯 % agree. Fine young man.
GOD BLESS YOU SAM!
Your not wrong very often your a good man!
Issac was a good helper!
Sam, you’re a man with integrity.
Looks like y’all made lemonade from the lemons! Isaac was a good helper!
Sam you are pretty hard on yourself, a perfectionist always is ! So good to see Isaac being involved, you have very bright little guys there ! I will be sending out another order next week 👍

All is well as long as the structure is secured.
Little guy is Adorable! I think he favors dad and the other looks like mom. Some little cuties and good little helpers.
You did a great job, first time pouring that many piers. Isaac's math skills are doing great. Good job.
if you ever do this kind of job again , stake borads on line of your peirs then do the other side , when you have your tubes in hole back fill around them will keep them in place and you can get your squear lined up and move any not just right

You can use a bonding material to adhere the new concrete to the pillars.

@@jeb3415 That's a really great idea. I hope Sam sees this one.
I still love your videos. Your family is so great 👍. Glad you showed went wrong with your building. Always great to learn 😊.
Hi Sam Angela & boys,Isaac is so cute & such a good helper.He did an awesome job helping.Sam it’s ok & it looks great.Have a great week!🌷💕🌷
Isaac is your MINI-ME! He did a great job as your assistant!
Was a great help and so adorable

Your boys are the cutest, ever!! Blessings to your family, always...
Great job Sam! On the next one you already know what to watch out for!
Looks great. Things happen in preparation that you don’t anticipate. Just have to roll with it. You and the builders did great.
It’s okay it looks great and I know you will get great use of it.
As long as it is safe you did good . and it looks good too .
What a sweetie. Beautiful smile.

I love it Isaac looks like Angela. The boys are so sweet reminds me of when mine were small.
Isn't he though. Adorable young man💕
So relieved that it is ok and you are happy .Isaac had fun too.
I LOVE the carport!! Your homestead is coming right along. Love seeing home school work in real life. GOD bless
Much respect Sam on sharing your learning on this beautiful Service Port. Isaac did a great job as your assistant!

Carport looks great, I love it.
You are a good Dad. Well done
My opinion is it looks pretty dang good. God bless.
It looks absolutely perfect to me
More anchoring points can be added if you want. I had all my uprights every 4 feet, much easier to enclose in the future, and is about 25% stronger.
Thanks for the explanation! Sharp hat, Isaac!
Sam you are human. People make a mistake it’s normal. Don’t worry about it happens to all. I can’t wait to see more projects. Rebekah
Thanks for the explanation on what went wrong.
Looks good enough n for what you're doing with it. And the flaws just add character.
You are fantastic dad you are teaching your son and also teaching him it’s ok to make a mistake and it won’t be the end of earth
If you should want to do this again, I’d recommend setting the 4 corners and getting the box square, then setting the individual piers. The anchor bolt hole positions should have been called out on the plans. It’s best to have the columns on top of the piers to transfer the load correctly. Sam you did your best. The carport looks safe and that’s what is important. I’m sure you will get many years of use from it.
I Would definitely fix that one pier that has rebar anchoring the structure. Drilling a new hole and installing an anchor bolt is relatively easy.
It looks great and will serve its purpose well. It takes a big man to admit his mistakes; Sam, you’re a big man…..in only the nicest of ways! Great job Isaac!!!!!! You’re a big helper👍🏽
The structure is beautiful and I don’t think anyone can tell. You all still did a great job!
Sam that saying goes if you're afraid to make a mistake you'll never learn anything. I think you did a great job and maybe you can even get the carport company to put those specs for the pre-drilled holes on their plan so that the next person will know.🎓
Rock-filled Gabion baskets around the piers!
Sam, we also moved to Tennessee last year and my husband and I are so impressed with how much you and Angela have accomplished! Also your young son is growing up to be a fine young man.
Thanks!!
Oh my goodness can Isaac be any cuter? What a great helper!
I think it looks fantastic!!!
I installed for a carport company and ours were NOT predrilled! We had sds drill and could do custom work anywhere!!
i will watch, just to see elijah...he is fantastic, happy go lucky and fun !! 😄🤠🎯‼ ‼ ‼
Cool jedi hat. overall, it still looks really nice and will come in very handy. Awesome job to all.
It almost looks like you might be ables to shift it further forward on that first pier and get them to line up.
Truely good men can admit their own error and still know their great worth. Love y'all.
You can always add an anchor to the rebar end for extra safety
The open ends on bottom should be filled. Keep from anything building a nest in there. Nothing is perfect and it all worked out. All of ya’ll work is paying off. Keep motivated. Great channel. Looking forward to see how you fill it up.
Hey Sam and Issac- good video. Nice structure so it’s a little off but overall was a good build and learning never stops. Thanks for sharing 👍
Still looks good !!!
Looks beautiful.
Looks great. Nice job. 🤝
It still looks great😻🙏
My dad would have been so careful, measure measure measure... then if it ended up off, he'd say "ehh, it ain't no church!" LOL. Nice homeschool lesson with all the math! Love the spider.
I LOVE that saying!!! I'll have to remember that one!!! :)

I know it’ll drive you nuts as a fellow perfectionist. But butt sometimes you just have to let it go. 😅. It tickles me to death to watch your boys!!❤❤
