  • Many people have asked me about using my Atomos Ninja V on the Red Komodo. In this video I am explaining why I chose this uncommon combination and why you may want to consider using this monitor for a cinema camera as well.

Hi Fabian, unfortunately camera control doesn’t work with this combination. You’ll need a SmallHD monitor that can do that, but that’s quite a bit more expensive. Apparently you can also do it with the PortKeys BM5 III WR, but I haven’t tried it out myself yet.

When recording externally what max frame rate can you do on ninja v vis sdi from Komodo?

    • @MortyFilms

While 12G SDI does max out at 120fps in 4k, the Komodo maxes out at 60fps in 4k so 60fps it is I guess. Usually I’m just shooting 25fps most of the times tbh.

1). stop with the stupid film grain.
2). bought the Atomos ninja shinobi 7in for my Komodo, within seconds of turning it on I knew it was going back. Unbeliveably horrible quality image. As one reviewer I read before buying said, I would never trust this thing to focus. With a sigma 18-35 on and a KNURLED silver knob a few inches in front of the lens, I couldnt even confirm it was in focus and I have 20/20 vision. There is some weird ghosting effect with this horrible screen. Now I know why people spen 1-2grand on monitors for Komodo. I didnt even unbox all the accesories like anton bauer batteries and chanegers, I just sent it all back. Id rather have NO monitor than this. Which is what I chose.
3). the image being so low quality on the atomos is not pleasant to look at at all, its so bad. so so so SO BAD.

      @@jsleger3404 *proper
My argument was against stating it’s a proper cinema camera.
I’ve worked as a DP on two projects with this camera and it was fine but little things like making sure the the ND filters were ready and having to go the extra steps for the colorist added another step in preproduction when having that normally built in and changing on the fly slowed things down on set.
Monitor placement not ideal. It’s more of a B or C cam. Camera operator was having issues with the Wi-Fi transmitter on an simple top down shot. That added time to the shoot. RF mount wasn’t used. Small gripe but a removable one would be nice for PL mount. What’s your experience with working with the camera?
