I heard the 2 spring setup was done on the first 80 or so. They also outsource the manufacturing of their springs (to a USA company) because they say springs are highly specialized & they want their springs to be top notch, so they leave that to the spring experts.
Great review. First 100 were dual springs. The single massive spring fires great and I feel like it's gonna work for a long time. I got #503 and I love it.
I hear you on the blade steel meaning its not 100% US produced, but im also glad they aren't just using 204p for everything and varying slightly. I love 204p and have a lot microtechs in it now. M390 has a certain mystic of its own imo.
Microtech must go with what is priced right and available during production runs. From dealers, I've received 204P when the knife was listed as M390 and vice versa. When I buy direct from Microtech, they just gave a list of possibilities and my recent 03/2021 produced Microtech SOCOM Elite is Elmax. My understanding from non-authoritative web sources is that Microtech's heat treatment emphasizes toughness over edge retention and their steels do not vary greatly in performance. Microtech does show the performance expectations of their steel choices on their site. Anyway, if Microtech limited their steel choices, it would likely cause production delays, restrict availability and push prices higher.
Hey Sgt. Dan. I’m praying for you and your family in Christ name. Nearly a year with no posts.
Are you OK sir?
Checking in from Spartanburg. Thanks for the thorough video and explaining the spring madness.
@Kevin Wittwer ha! I go there all the time. Bought my microtechs from there too. Great guys in there!
Hey, no more videos? I liked your reviews so much. Greeting from Switzerland
Just checking in. I hope you had a blessed Christmas and a great New Year.

Microtech, good looking knives!
puuuurtty, aren't they? whew; me wanty...
they are the best looking otfs , just wish they wouldn’t mess up so easy
i’ve had to send 75 percent of my microtechs in for some kind of defect or malfunction
Great review as always!
Awesome collection!
Great review! I’ve got to get one of these
What happens Sgt. Dan? Where’d you go bro?
Awesome
I wish they would have kept the original size. Already having a Combat I don't I'll get one of these.
i wonder why some otf knife makers are going to larger single springs as opposed to double small springs...
because it is better in every way
Beautiful knives pricey but easy on the eyes
Sgt. Dan making it rain!!

would be a good contrast to my D/E Dirac
No videos in awhile and the instagram hasn’t been active in awhile.. you still lurking around man?
Do you carry any of these knives at work?
I always have the combat troodon on me at work and now usually have the scarab II as well.
@@palmettoedge1908 nice, so would you recommend the combat troodon for Patrol? I'm about to go into law enforcement hopefully.
Ground control to Sgt. Dan…. where are you?

Heard he passed away. Anyone know if that's true??? I'm still doing reviews in his honor
Man I wish I could afford a Scarab
Do you know why they did the first batch with the duel springs then changed it to the fat single spring?
My guess is just to pay homage to the original scarab, but I honestly have no idea.
because they realized the large single spring is more reliable , more efficient , fires harder literally just better
@@ilikeknafs9563 thank you
@@palmettoedge1908 thank u
You in Mt.pleasant or Downtown?
Neither. I’m in the Upstate.
hope they make a dlc tanto
I also find myself struggling to decide whether to carry the scarab 2 or my combat troodon
which fires harder ? scarab 2 is one of the only microtechs i haven’t owned
Microtech bring back halo and cypher knives
People forget the flue exist and seasonal allergies 🤧

The scarab 2 wasn’t that big back then . The original scarab 1 from 2003 was bigger. The QD scarab was way smaller then this new scarab 2
