    Thank you for this. Also, makes a point for the so called professional dog outing people who call themselves trainers yet take groups of 4 or 5 dogs out into public, no leashes, no e - collars and let them run up to people having trained dogs and service dogs on leash. They get angry when you tell them to keep their dogs on leash or under trained obedience control. People pay them to take their dogs out with no idea the danger they create.

    I’ve watched for years, utilized a lot your free advice for mg new dog before and after getting her. Got her at 3 months and she’s turning 5 years old next week. You were saying the same thing back then. Found out that she prefers not to be approached by strangers. Utilized this exact approach from day one, and continue to bring her “pack” whenever she goes to a restaurant or brewery with me. She understands I don’t let people pet her, and that she is to relax and lay on her “place” which happens to be a towel. Will utilize this approach, and many of your others, for the rest of my life.

    You are completely correct in that so much published info about early socialisation with puppies is about creating positive interactions with other dogs and people, rather than about teaching social ignorance and focus on the handler as the priority.
    It was funny watching Kevin in the background being typically Ovcharka like. He's a top dog!

    I sure wish I'd seen this 2 years ago when I adopted my working line female 2 yr old. She's leash reactive and has anxiety. She has calmed down a lot and choosing to ignore dogs more and more. I really think dog trainers should call themselves dog OWNER trainers. It is imperative, I believe, that a potential dog owner understands they need the correct education in HOW to train their dog in order to have a happy, well balanced and obedient dog. I have my dog's back. I think she knows it -- finally. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    This true 1000%. We pulled our puppy out of a dog group and letting him be off leash in the early stages because we saw him learn bad behaviours from other dogs but also the bad behaviours his breed is known to exhibit also began to show. All the training we had done so far became undone and it had a domino effect on everything, at home and outdoors. Luckily we stopped while he was 7 months old but to restart wasn't easy, upside to the difficult journey undoing the mess was that he was young and easier to get under control therefore. Today, his 5 years old and never once had an issue off leash with him outdoors or indoors. Thank GOD because we have come across so many untrained dogs with owners that kept them off leash from the get-go and let them run free in groups, and it's not pretty, especially with the serious breeds some of them have. It's not just the dog, when you start training late, it's the owners, it's a battle with them and with themselves to stop thinking like they are so used to thinking and stop fighting the changes. It's not just the dog but the owner that ends up developing the worst habits that trainers have to tackle with in order to reach to their dog and help them. Getting through some owners for trainers is not an easy task, especially if the trainer really cares and won't give up on their dog. Bless them.

    Absolutely love this video. Socialization is something I failed miserably at due to ignorance which I'm still trying to address. My dog has made improvements over time but at this point he's 2 years old and I am still failing him. I appreciate the education about what socialization really is, turns out I've made a lot of mistakes. Luckily I don't think that I can't repair that, just going to take more work and I'm eager to put that work in. Thanks Haz!

      Truely the more you do the harder it is. Get a towel and make him be on his place and perform corrective action if he gets confused as to where he must be. Then reward him and repeat. Good luck, don’t over think what yes and no mean.

    I'm a trainer, but I'm young and don't have a huge property like you do. I never want to train under anyone else because I can see the flaws in everyone's methods. But I've been subscribed for a while and I don't see anything wrong with yours. If I lived near you I would had loved to try and work for your program. How do you choose your trainers?

    Interesting. I rescued a 2 year old dog that's confident, but anti social.
    She can and will interact with other dogs and be around other people just fine. But she doesn't like to be touched or called by strangers, nor will she accept food (treats) from strangers/vet. Instead she focuses on me more on those situations.
    I've never experienced a dog's "loyalty" (or disdain) with this type of intensity before.
    She has come a looooong way since we got her, but I don't see her changing too much more.
    I literally have to tell people to not touch her and if I don't, she will tell them herself.
    She's not a biter, but she's an asshole for sure.

    So socializing a puppy means teach it to listen to the owner around other dogs? 🤦‍♀️ how come is it socialization? To me it is obedience training.

    • @asiairee_
      @asiairee_ Месяц назад

      Because it’s teaching them to be neutral around other dogs. Socialization isn’t letting your dog greet every single dog . That could easily lead to excitement reactivity
