We use a darker color ball and I cover my dogs eyes and I throw it in the woods and command him to search. That's our morning play time . I lost my phone this morning. I put a old phone to his nose and he found it. In less than 30 seconds it's amazing watching him work.
Wow, that's awesome! Your dog has an impressive sniffing ability! Finding the phone in less than 30 seconds is truly an incredible achievement. Morning play sessions like this are sure not only to enhance your dog's skills, but they're also a great way to bond. It looks like you're raising a talented "detective"!
Chico is one hell of a dog. One of the more intense, intelligent, handsome & confident dogs ive seen anyone post/work with. Hes gotta get your blood pumping & adrenaline going , he's a dog you can do anything with & train to the extremely high level that we all know you really enjoy.
@@alexand5658 lol you mean doberman ... And sure they make good protection dogs, but def are not the most powerful, capable, dont have anywhere near the hardest bite force & arent nearly the physically biggest, strongest, most powerful etc dog breeds that are used in protection work. But if you like the breed, get a well bred & health checked one, is well trained & raised they are def capable dogs. Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Boerboel, Working line German Shepard, Working Line Rottweilers, Bandogs, Doggo Argentino, Working line Pitbulls are all more powerful, capable, have harder bite force etc. Again Doberman are perfectly fine if you like/want the breed and make great protection and family dogs
I have a working Doperman who is very tough and for specialist attack protection that no one can do well easily, he even knows how to take off his glove or bite the neck instead of a hand
Haz, this video knocks it out of the ball park!! See what I did there 😊 Seriously, this is one of a kind, detailed content from THE one of a kind, brilliant trainer. Thank you for all the valuable info you share 🙏
Great stuff, my dobie hurts himself quite often. I have seen him go head over heels trying to pick up the ball at FULL speed!! < Like you I use a lot of sounds for training
I have a 7 month Malinois. He will run full tilt & do a sliding stop on the front to get the ball. I need to be careful. He hurt his carpus (wrist) one day. Luckily, he walked it off in 24 hrs. He’s my first and I have been told they often ignore the pain of injuries so I need to be extra careful. Consequently, I really appreciate this video.
Awesome video as always! Fun & informational content with super cool / capable dogs. Really like the black female shes got some spunk! Its interesting to see how the different dogs value the ball etc individually.
Of all the three dogs, I like Gage the most! If Chico had more impulse control, I would like him more. Before I watched this (and other channels) I thought German Shepherd Dogs did not have enough power and mass, but I believe more and more that, for modern life in a city, a working line dog German Shepherd is the best option, provided you have sufficient control over him (and, unless you do not hunt dangerous game or are a shepherd in an area where strong predators would attack your animals, it has a sufficient amount of power).
That was fun to watch … nice to see the dogs have their puppy like personalities and it’s not all work for them. Even though they were are similar in their play, I could see the subtle differences. Differences that you wouldn’t necessarily see until you pointed it out. Bang looks like a fairly good size female … will she.be a big as the boys, when she’s done growing?
Great and informative video! I think my pup is more like the second dog, he gets distracted very easily. I will try to apply what you taught in this video! It's very impressive seeing how well you read the dogs.
My dobie/lab is all toy and prey driven (LOVES TUGWAR), she will jump feet off the ground to get a toy, and death lock it in her mouth. She's not too big on food drive. My doberman male is food driven chowhound, sometimes toy drive, sometimes prey drive depending. And the small chi/doxie is all drives lol
Thanks for the confirmation- The dangers of injury to a dog that is a missile to the ball- over running it or jumping 4ft in the air to get it off of the bounce or sliding out of control on a wet field ending in a wipe-out as they get to the ball is and should be a concern. I timed my little girl in a 40Yrd dash by throwing her ball and using a stop watch. 3.0 sec equals about 26MPH. Imagine jumping off of a bicycle at that speed- yeah ouch… advocating for “no wake zones”
Omg, gage plays exactly like my Malinoise, whether it’s a ball, jolly ball or a medium tug, he will tackle me for it, extremely tough with play and absolutely loves the little fights we have, I don’t use these toy as a reward much, but I play with him daily .
I was watching this video with my son and we loved it. He is 8 years old and when the 10th minute arrives from there on, the presenter starts talking about this would be a drug for him. He would kill his mother for this I understand that I wanted to put the dramatization or the correct context of saying that I'm careful how you teach him but there are better words As I say the video super good but remember that they are a channel that children can see and that they deserve respect also in the communication that is transmitted to them I hope that this comment is of self-help more than of criticism THANK YOU VERY GOOD PROGRAM
Our male Mal is definitely as possessive as Chico. I have to be very careful how I throw it, bc he has no self-preservation. I can't throw a Frisbee for him, bc he will hurt himself getting it, he likes Mach 10. Teaching him impulse control was very important, and that is what keeps him from hurting himself. He outs like a Champ, he is 3.5, we've worked on this since puppyhood. Our female Mal, plays a lot like Bang, she is about the same age as well. Not nearly the same drive as our male. ❤
With a dog like Chico that selfsatisfies so much with the toy, how did you work on getting him to reach it to you all the time? That must have been a work by itself! With that kind of dog I struggle sometimes in how much I should let him enjoy his own way for motivation and how much to "make him" transform his way into the functional side of it...
Is it possible for a dog to be in between bang and Chico, where they love the chase (playing fetch) and also obsessed with the ball where when you throw it they put 110% into it? I can’t really tell which one my dog is.. more like bang or Chico aha
There is a VERY fine line here that should be drawn ONLY with the best of experts. When this dog wraps its legs around the handler, that is INNATE behavior of a dog wrapping its legs around its prey. This could EASILY turn bad, but I trust that the trainer has built the proper relationship with the dog that will avoid any bad outcome.
Brilliant vid, thanks! Our dog has a big prey drive, but only for living things. He doesn't care AT ALL about balls or other moving objects and doesn't like fetch. Only thing he cares about is either food (but also working with a food dummy leads to him fetching it a couple of times and then he gets distracted) or being VERY physical with me, up to a point he unintentionally hurts me. Whenever I play too much with the food dummy to make it more interesting, he'll get physical with me too. So I don't actually play with him at all unfortunately. But I think it's a shame. Does anyone have any idea what I should do?? I'd like so much to be able to get him play...
Thanks Haz, i watch all your vids, but got a question. My gsd doenst like balls with ropes, but loves just normal balls. How can i make him get more interested in this
We just rescued a 1 yr old that plays like the first dog but we dont want him to play this way. He will jump / nip to get you to play as well. He is smart but needs control and not everyone can play with a big dog clinging to them. Need to know how to undo this type of play/behavior. I've rescued dogs and trained them before but I've never seen this weird play behavior and we're about to give up on this one. I've never given up before but this is far too much.
I've watch hours of your videos and I still don't think I can get my Shepherd/ Husky this well trained. She is more Husky in attitude. This video is very insightful. She is more of an non-rope tennis ball girl. ruclips.net/channel/UCkheXMAMm7WY0-7UOgIB9hg

As always, you read dogs so perfectly. It's so great to seeing happy, playful dogs!
11:58 That focus is so intense; Chico really radiates an energy that can be felt through space; I feel it in my bones!
The way Chico staring at the ball is so focused.
The dog's agility and ability to concentrate are truly amazing. They can grasp the situation very quickly and are always in control of any situation!

Haz you are a hell of a trainer that you are with your dogs like Gauge. Really smart dog. Keep up the great work that you do for all of us 👍
Haz, this video knocks it out of the ball park!!
See what I did there 😊

Thank you for all the valuable info you share 🙏
Gage is the most high drive GSD I have ever seen. Absolutely adore that dog.
Haz knows his German shepherds!
😂that Gage hug battle is awesome
Nice work. These are shepherd-type dogs. Many others play differently. Thank you this was instructive.
Oh man, this is my Doby!! thank you, I thought I had to break him of this type of play but now I know it's okay and we have so much fun !!
Love the slo motion feature. Even more so when the subject is a German Shepard.
Freaking AWESOME video my friend!!! Love it!!!

"Bang Bang" looks and plays just my "Raven."
Brilliant! I will be sending this video to all my clients and friends.
I learned so much from this video. Showed me how I have to train my 2 dogs differently.
Chico is my GSD!! Thanks for posting this!.

Love your content Haz. Just working through your online puppy course with my 12 week old German Shepherd dog, he's doing great 😊
this guy is so legit
dang the last dog reminds me so much of my old Dobermann fuking hell he craved that ball insanely much

Great breakdown of some different types of play. What other reinforcement do you use if the dog doesnt like a ball?
This is such a good video

Where do you get those thick flat collars that you use for bite work?
my dog is like chicco, hell die for that ball. a bit excessive if you ask me but makes a very easy reward in training
Very interesting. Dog # 2 ( Bang?) Is bouncy like my Golden Retriever. I'm surprised how similar they are.
Amazing
Our GSD Ruger is ball crazy like that too. I love that ball you have, where did you get it?
Hey, this was a really cool video.

Can you help me with agresive or resource guarding behavior for a 5 year old female gsd?
My working shepherd likes to play the keep away game, and occasionally seeks for me to engage with it and essentially acts like gage.

How long would be sufficient enough for a dog that loves this ? Two 20 mins a day?
