NO OTHER LIKE THAT VOCAL DYNAMO ....... shrill, sweet, soulful & low and tender .... there is no flaw nor want for sonic better .... when she sings it is shear perfection ! GBjj
Every time I listen to Eva Cassidy singing this song (Danny Boy) & Autumn Leaves, I get teary. No other singers have put so much emotions into these songs, as Eva Cassidy. It is sad for the music world to lose Eva at such a young age. Perhaps, a script writer or biographer can write a book- “ The Eva Cassidy Story”. Then produce a movie about the life of Eva Cassidy. Alternatively at the annual Grammy Award, there should be an award named Eva Cassidy award for new singers. RIP Eva, God bless you & keep you.
Everyone is suggesting someone else to sing this but are they KIDDING??? I've heard almost every one mentioned but none of them could never be more beautiful than this. Of course, these are all our opinions. Makes the world go around, I suppose.
The combination of Eva's voice and technical ability, added to her interpretation (i.e. conveying the meaning of the words) makes this the definitive version for me.
Here's what AI says the song is about: "Danny Boy" is a famous Irish ballad with lyrics written by English songwriter Frederic Weatherly. The song is often associated with Irish culture and is considered one of the most iconic Irish songs. It is also known by its alternative title, "Londonderry Air," referring to the melody upon which the lyrics were set. The lyrics of "Danny Boy" are written from the perspective of a father or loved one sending a message to his son, Danny, who is presumably leaving or has passed away. The lyrics convey a sense of longing, love, and sorrow, as the speaker expresses their hope that Danny will find peace and happiness wherever he goes. The song touches on themes of parting, separation, and the emotional turmoil that comes with saying goodbye to someone you care deeply about. While the lyrics do not explicitly state the reason for Danny's departure, it is often interpreted as a farewell to a loved one who may be leaving for war, emigrating, or even passing away.
Danny Boy was copyrighted by attorney Frederic Weatherly in about 1910. That is the time the common-law copyright laws were stricken in Great Britain. Thousands of folk songs were copyrighted under the new law by lawyers like Weatherly. The Irish account of this song is that 10's of thousands of young Irish men were driven off their tenant farms in the mid-1800's when mechanical harvesting equipment made manual harvesting obsolete. Young men across Ireland were forced to seek employment in North America, South America and Australia. And this is the song sung by sweethearts and families who often never saw their young men again.
Hi Sarah! "Danny Boy" is a traditional song with lyrics written by English lawyer Frederic Weatherly in 1910. The song has been recorded multiple times by a variety of performers some of these are Colin O´More, Judy Garland, Conway Twitty, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Diana Krall, Johnny Cash, Sinéad O´Connor, Riot, and for me one of the best versions Eva Cassidy - Danny Boy on the album Imagine (2002).
Please try listening to these two by Eva: "Golden Thread" (from Songbird), and "How Can I Keep From Singing". I think you'll be shocked...and deeply pleased.
I love your reactions to Eva but please, please, react to Nightbird. It is amazing. Eva's best song and my all time favourite. Love you from the UK ...
@@ronraskind I like Songbird a lot, but Autumn Leaves and Nightbird are my favourite Eva songs. Apparently the guy who wrote Nightbird stopped performing it himself after he listened to Eva Cassidy's version.
@@joolstrout8036@joolstrout8036 Thanks for your reply. I listened to Nightbird and you are right... What a pleasant surprise! It is stunning. I also am a big fan of Autumn leaves. If you are not already familiar, there is someone you may want to listen to. Angelina Jordan from Norway is now 17 years old. But at 10 years old she also recorded Autumn leaves in a music video on RUclips. No one can replace Eva, but on the other hand, at 10 years old you will find this to be the most amazing rendition you have ever heard. If you enjoy it, Angelina has about 200 performances on RUclips of over 80 artists, plus originals ranging from age 6 to 17. I will be curious as to your thoughts. Peace and love.
@@ronraskind I have heard a lot about Angelina Jordan but have never listened to her. Another reactor mentioned her too. I was not sure if it was all a bit of hype but on your honest recommendation I will check her out this weekend (hey, you love Eva Cassidy so I have to trust your judgement).
@@joolstrout8036 😍 please let me know your thoughts. Because she has so much material, it is helpful to hear her when she is young. She won Norway's got talent at 7 years old! My favorite cover when she was 16 is Suspicious Minds by Elvis. She uncovered that song and made it her own in a way you wouldn't expect. Also, you will be happy to know that there was a mashup video of Angelina and Eva singing Fields of Gold together when Angelina was 14! There are two different ones, the original being from Big Angie fan. Have a nice weekend!
You once reacted to Gabriel Henrique singing Run To You, you know he performed on America Got Talent this year and received the Golden Buzzer and precisely with Run To You It would be wonderful for you to react to him again with this performance... he will sing in the live shows next 19th
Want to really break you heart? I don't know if Eva knew the condition of her health when she recorded this song but she had a brother living in Iceland. Her brother's name is Dan.
It rips my heart apart every single time.

John McDermott‘s a capella version of this song is beautiful. If you decide to listen make sure it‘s the a capella version!
Judith Durham, the lead singer with The Seekers, sings the most beautiful version of this old classic.
It's utterly perfect! 😍
Not a breath on this sorry
If you like that, you need to hear it sang by Danny Thomas!
I think you would like to review some songs from the great singer Jim Reeves. He also did a wonderful rendition of Danny Boy.
you should near the Ray Price version.

I think it's about Danny Boy.
