hi ik this is old but just make it as aesthetic as possible. read on your commute, carry a book with you everywhere, annotate and journal about it, and never pressure yourself into finishing something you don't like. that's all

I’ve gotten back into reading a bit just by getting stuff on kindle/libby from my library, it’s so much easier for me to pay attention on my phone. Plus I’m reading stuff I’m actually interested in (super hyperfixated on Star Wars and luckily there are tons of novels and comics)

i feel like there is a difference between audiobooks and 'regular' books, as audiobooks allow you to do other stuff while listening, whereas w a book you need to sit down and Read. they're 2 different experiences but def still count as consuming a story and learning things? i do count them as 'books read'

So glad to hear that you enjoyed ‘Dune!’ It’s always been one of my favorite books, and I reread every fews years. This year was the one where I pushed to read all of the sequels that Frank Herbert wrote. Still haven’t finished them; I’m only on ‘God Emperor of Dune,’ If you want some more horror, (because let’s face it, who doesn’t) I can’t recommend ‘The Terror’ by Dan Simmons enough.
ngl i had goodreads open while watching to add a bunch of things to my tbr. ive started branching out into reading more nonfiction but ive only read a few so far (including the new jim crow which i also bring up all the time in discussions) i do want to say that RWRB isn't a YA book, it's an Adult Romance, but I think that's on the publishers for marketing it like YA but labeling it Adult. they clearly wanted the hype YA often gets which has been happening with a ton of adult books. mcquiston calls it new adult which is a category between YA and adult only rly seen in the indie romance world

if your trying to read 113 books, i reccomend wondla, its not about vampires, politics or lgbt stuff, but its a really easy read. its set far into the future and i really liked the world building and characters :)
did you specifically choose only to read liberal theory on race? communist and anarchist authors have covered it much better and don't take such a non radical approach as many of your books listed did. I recommend franz fanon's wretched of the earth.

If you liked The Stranger, you should read The Meursault Investigation. It's a postcolonial retelling of the novel from the perspective of the imagined brother of the murder victim (the nameless "Arab" in the original book).

I'm trying out audiobooks this year, so hopefully I'll get through some more! I definitely took a lot of reccomendations from this list, including Nothing to See Here, which from your description sounds like it could be an allegory (purposeful or not) for the way autistic/ neurodivergent people process emotions? I'll have to see if it reads that way in practice, but those were the vibes I got. I think I'm gonna put my goal for ten books this year, so good luck to you and anyone else on their reading goals :D

I love Classics Illustrated! At the same time, from the few of them that I've read, "It didn't need to be turned into a comic and I'm not sure why it was" is a pretty good description of most of those books.

i totally agree that the political aspect of red white and royal blue was completely mishandled. i understand that the author wanted to incorporate a political theme, but it didn’t sit right with me as it relates to actual real world politics. i really liked the romance in that book, but it would have been a much better book had the political element been handled better.

For me I try not to force myself to read too long, just read in short periods or when I’m tired and there won’t be many distractions. Could help to have music and/or a stim toy to keep your mind busy.

For me I try not to force myself to read too long, just read in short periods or when I’m tired and there won’t be many distractions. Could help to have music and/or a stim toy to keep your mind busy.
I read with classical music in the background! (any music could work i guess but i find lyrics too distracting) :)
It’s kind of crazy how many of the same books we read last year (even though I only read 50!)
