hi Daniel! great video as always. I'm interested in e-skating but I haven't started yet, so I thought who better to ask than you? so here goes: I live in the older part of a big city, and that means a lot of messy cobblestone paths and lots of uphills. I'd definitely want to start with a Backfire board, but would the classic G2 do well in streets like this? or do you think I should invest in an X2 or X3 for better control on uneven ground? please help!
Cobblestone paths would need bigger wheels for sure. Ranger X2/X3 might be ok but might also be unpleasant, depending on how bumpy the path is. But yeah for G2 you’d want paved roads.
How much of a difference does a flexy deck actually make when it comes to bumps? I want a board that can handle high speeds. But there are also lots of shitty roads that I have to deal with in my city. My x1 riot is starting to kill my feet lol
I own a Backfire Ranger X2 and love it (thanks to this channel), especially for the “lower power” hub motors. I’m 6’1” & 230lbs and the thing still SCOOTS! So well, in fact, that I keep it on eco mode (half power). It’s true that I use it exclusively on city streets and the closest thing to off-road it sees is the occasional corner of a neighbor’s lawn. It would be completely impractical to expect an electric skateboard to do any true off-roading without 1) all four wheels being powered, a feature much more important than belt drive, 2) some way to partially lock the feet to the board, like the old 1980s skateboarding toe clips that one could attach-basically a curved tab, one for the front side of the front foot and one for the backside of the rear foot, locking your feet to the board by outward pressure (splitting your legs, like a snow skiing “snow plow”), and unlocking by simply releasing that pressure (closing legs).
You don't need all 4 wheels to be motorized for offroading. The problem with many chinese "offroad" boards is that their batteries, motors, and ESCs simply can't output enough performance on a 2wd. A VESC on 2wd can output 2-3 times more amps than Hobbywing or Lingyi at higher voltages, resulting in loads of torque on a mountain board than can overcome dirt.
I must say that my only working board right now is the Backfire X1/2 Its not marketed as the X2. but it has the redone front tires, like the X2 minus the T badge. I bought it as a tester?? lol.
