lol, I was almost like 'You can use alt click when grid is on..." but then he said it... but the man know his shortcuts.. See the real trick is buy a 40 buttons mouse so you don't need a keyboard.
@@shadowgauge5852 the smarter way to use a DAW is to try and use the keyboard exclusively, without using a mouse. Ever wondered why making music in a tracker is so fast? (if you know what you're doing).
I noticed that the CTRL-SPACE feature also works for individual midi notes within a midi clip as well. Very cool to know it works the same with selected audio.
I haven't seen a vide of yours in years - i started ableton in 2011 and then go into drugs in 2014 so when i found your duncan trussell podcast episode, it felt really cool to me! your conversation inspired me to get Korg Monologue and I've been making weird out of time tracks for the past few days! much love
Legend. I always learn a ton with your vids. That ctrl/cmd space bar is gonna come in clutch. G-clip looks like something I could definitely use, (I’ve been using saturators with soft clippers for a while now) and I’m excited to make some new drums ASAP.
WOW this is actually the method I’ve been using to make transients. I got the idea from Steve Duda. And what’s the name of the song you made I wanna hear it when it comes out
Looks like its going to be an Electrocado tune from the title in the top left, 'slow cooked with love'.. but I checked it doesn't seem to be released! Hopefully soon though maybe? :P
@3:51 I see Mr Bill instinctively pulling the selection out to the nearest zero-crossing of the wave, exactly like a guy who knows his transients would do
Hey there, will it be possible to have a cheap option for only watch your tutorial on your website and not have the full option if that make sense ? thx
The first method is actually how Koan Sound design their kicks and snares. They use fades and a gain plugin. But then again, everything they do is meticulous and precise. Do what works best for you is what I’d say.
Are these types of changes made during the writing process or are in the mixdown portion. Also- do u mix while u write or do u break it up into separate sessions?
Insane, this trick is so overwhelmingly awesome. Never thought about taking a Hi-hat and just take that transient. Does it work for any kind of kick related shapes?
I mean.. you could just hard chop the kick intentionally NOT at the zero crossing too... but when that fails, pasting a HH transient does work wonders.. ;D
really late here obviously. General guideline is try everything, but I generally don't like stereo kicks, especially in the low end. That's partly due to phase shit but also because I like to be conservative in what I put in the stereo space. For example if the only thing that's wide in your mix is your synth bass (imagining some bass house thing) then it'll sound really wide. That being said, I find layer synth kicks with some accoustic, roomy sample with some width can be really nice (maybe highpass at ~80 hz)
the real tip here is ctrl + spacebar for playing a highlighted section. handy.

alt + space for anyone on mac

@@studioviper3016 I generally just use my mouse and my akai mini cuz my space is stupidly limited.
Crazyyy tip
9:07 "sounds pretty similar actually"
I fuckin lost it lmaooo
i like that he didnt bullshit his way through it lol
haha yeah that was funny. though i do hear a difference in the punchiness of the kick
that was such a relatable moment 🤣
Lool
Dude, that loop is chefs kiss!
Totally, is it out there somewer where I can I find it, It's sick. What's the track called ?
Honestly Bill has some of the most unique tips online. Doesn't hurt that the music in the turorial sounds dope too!
Damn this is a good idea. Mr Bill should make a plugin that does this for you in real time
@@Alice_Arctor well he did, it's called SLAP
I usually just layer clicks when i need more transient, but that honestly feels cleaner and even more snappy, thank you sir! :)
I am early to a mr.bill upload. Instant like, I wish schools had music teachers like you!
4:00 The Au5 "Punchy Drums in Operator" method.
I noticed that the CTRL-SPACE feature also works for individual midi notes within a midi clip as well. Very cool to know it works the same with selected audio.
Great tip! Never knew about the shortcut to play the highlighted section. Option and Spacebar on a Mac! Thanks!
Wow! This explains why I've heard songs where it sounded like the Snare and Kick sound like they have the same transient. Have to try this some time.
This is what makes u a god damn pro understanding that these little easy tricks over looked is straight fire work flows
And with that the "Slap" vst was born
on mac is alt+spacebar because cmd+spacebar brings up spotlight :)
Goated info, thanks mr bill
brilliant
Is there any other artists that make funky house like this, this is amazing
Kilowatts, Circuit Bent, Akufen, Tristan Boyle, Grouch, that'll get you started 😀
@@MrBillsTunes omg thank you!!
Thanks mr bill :) I always learn something new about sound design from your videos!
HAAA.. amazing!! Thank you Mr Bill

This is worth it for that shortcut alone.
Super helpful as usual, thank you so much!!
Thank you Mr Bill
Each of your videos is very very useful. Greetings from Serbia.
the creativity of Mr.Bill is beyond this world...
I learn more from this channel than I do on every other production channel on RUclips.

How do you attach the nose ring? Anyway thanks for the tips :)
Ha, didn't think of that! I actually used a rim shot over my kick and it works pretty well but this method, I have to check it out. Thanks!

on Mac it's option + space bar. thx mr. Bill!
I absolutely enjoyed this video, thanks! If I ever get around to getting off of youtube, I'm gonna check out the rest.
On Mac it's option+space
so simple, awesome! instead of clipping couldn't you just turn the clip gain of the new transient down before rendering the two together?
Yes, absolutely!
please let us know when this track is going to be released, absolute fire
Do you know if this track is out yet?
Awesome & original technique!
Wow the ctrl+spacebar trick is amazing
@3:51 I see Mr Bill instinctively pulling the selection out to the nearest zero-crossing of the wave, exactly like a guy who knows his transients would do
Do you mix in mono? What speaker(s) do you use… And what’s your process? Your mixes are so clean.
thank you all !!!! please make music forever
If you apply this method checking with an avantone speaker results are clean af, nice tutorial as usual :D
I had no idea about the Ctrl+Spacebar thing!
Brilliant! 🙏
thanks, this helps turning an alright kick better :)
His whole wall is dedicated for sound treatment
Genius! I thought on that before but didn't go for it. Thanks mate!
Coincidentally a great gclip tutorial haha. I wonder if you have any vids on limiting vs clipping, I am trying to master those too...
control spacebar... nice!
Efficient and effective. Class
it's a common old school sample technic to cut the start point not on zero crossings to generate a transient click.
Hey there, will it be possible to have a cheap option for only watch your tutorial on your website and not have the full option if that make sense ? thx
Hi Genius. you kill it.. this guy deserves to make so much money for being a genius.
I wish I could be as creative as you
for Mac it's option+spacebar :)

Thanks Bill!
Mr. Bill do you have auto fade clip edges turned off in your preferences when doing this?
ewwwwww wtf this is massive. thank you so much. been struggling with this for years and transient shapers havent been doing it for me
great video Bill
So my question is, can I do this with other drum samples or is it only really a Kick thing?
Ayy G Clip, I love all those G plugins
Awesome tip thanks.
This is dope
I love you Mr Bill
Option + Spacebar on Mac 👍🏽
Macrosampling. Thank you

Real reviewers will enjoy this cooked techno, cool technique Bill!
dropping those knowledge bombs as always
I mean.. you could just hard chop the kick intentionally NOT at the zero crossing too... but when that fails, pasting a HH transient does work wonders.. ;D
I love this so much. I could never layer drums with multiple tracks and crossfades, even with excessive EQing it sounds like trash.
transient shaper can help or?
Did this song ever drop?
I seriously fucking love you. Can't wait to apply this shit. Fuck. This is awesome.
really cool man loved it!
Love it, thanks for the tip!
I wouldn't do it this way personally, but whatever works.
That’s. Insane. Holy hell
bro, how do u pick ur nose?
always meticulous, I like the way you make music, it's a real example to follow
10 minute video with an ad for a trick that could've been explained in 30 seconds. It's youtube nowadays alright.
4:30 "yeah so.. forget this method.. this method.. Sucks."
You got any drum kits?
Wow, this is awesome!!
Mr. Bull
Trippy. I like it
yessssssss very useful bro! you're tha best
Yah G Clip is available for Mac now.Nice tut as always bro
Sorry to be shit but does anybody know what hotkey he is using to change the attack and decay with a click?
This was an amazing video 😁
Fucking ctrl + space. You just helped me so much you beautiful bastard.
Mr. Bill Transients, kid tested, mother approved.
u think it makes a difference (good or bad) if you're using a mono audio sample as the transient and keeping the tail end as a stereo sample?
really late here obviously. General guideline is try everything, but I generally don't like stereo kicks, especially in the low end. That's partly due to phase shit but also because I like to be conservative in what I put in the stereo space. Genius boy
This video made me realize how powerfull Kick2 is
Reaper or Ableton?
That is exactly how im doing it for years now
Is your nosering getting bigger or is your face getting smaller?
yes
