The best Robert California scene was when he first came in and then left and talked the ceo out of her own job
Victoria Jimenez and I don’t really know how someone does that
True
People don't like the character but I think James Spader was amazing on the show.
WOKE Futurito he clapped Jo’s cheeks for hours
I think the actor was great it's just his character didn't really suit the show. I felt he wasn't really a part of the family, he didn't fit in with anyone else.
You know James Spader is on another level when he turned a 5 minute guest star into becoming a regular for an entire season
Not surprising. He just went into the network's executives' office and convinced them to give up on the other actor they had hired. He did the same to Jo Bennett.
@@YS-el3hm Who? James Spader or Robert California?
@@rashiddianalan8965 Exactly.
WE NEED HIM PLAYING AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN A MOVIE LIKE WITH BRAD PITT OR LEO
He did a similar thing when he and William Shatner were brought in on the last season of The Practice. They were so good they got a 5 season spinoff called Boston Legal.
Robert casually referring to “Sesame Street” as “The Street” is incredible 😂

I think Robert is actually a much harder character to write and execute than Michael was. No shade towards Michael, I love him and he was the foundation of the show, but Robert is a serious balancing act and it's impressive that they consistently pulled it off.

In addition to giving James Spader a way to show off his expertise playing eccentric characters, Robert California gave opportunity for us to see the other characters squirm. I especially enjoyed Jim’s reactions to Robert.

I would say he was at first intimidated by Charles Minor
@@jamespierce8096 charles was his boss. but this guy is there to apply for job and jim is interviewer.
Robert California’s character is basically like taking James Spader’s natural eccentricity and amplifying it about 100x
It's what made The Blacklist go for a decade. James Spader manages to give such a dry talking style so much Charisma. It's as fascinating to me as Jeff Goldblum miraculously looking extremely shy and supremely confident simultaneously like a Quantum Bit being simultaneously 1,0 and everything in between.

Maple syrup, specifically hot maple syrup, is both intoxicating and hypnotic? I had no idea.
Does one heat the maple syrup up in the microwave? Pan on the stove?
Can you use cheap, mass produced Maple syrup, like "Log Cabin", or must you use higher quality, expensive syrup tapped directly from the tree?
That was the most Canadian yet accurate thing I’ve ever read.

robert california has to be one of the characters of all time
I really admire how Andy reacts to this list the office saw Robert had made. Throwing/attempting to throw a pizza party when Robert takes the “cool kids” to dinner. It shows one of the ways he was a good boss, sometimes he cared about them and hated to see them sad, hence why he's always making stupid jokes. Doesn't happen often but he really does something good there.

Toby 2.0

Michael would start his own paper company again.
Thinking about this, To quote Chidi:
This broke me.
I think Robert would respect Michael
He is such a good character. He basically shows how sheer confidence in himself and his words can cover up his faults. He bullshits his way to the top and stays there for a while
Seems to be based off a real office expierence.
It all seems too real.
A con man basically
He seems like what Ryan aspired to become in starting in Season 4, and it makes sense that Ryan was almost always hung up on Robert's words and generally impressed by him, while everyone else started seeing through his bullshit

Lol absolutely
I firmly believe this season was a spin-off prequel to the blacklist
The Scranton Strangler was the one of the first targets of the Blacklist
That’s an incredible theory actually. It’s totally believable that Raymond would bullshit his way into the role of a CEO of a paper company for a year and just toy with his subordinates for shits and giggles. It’s like he’s just laying low away from crime for a while 😂😂
