      +legendray2008 But there is no other gpu that has the same performance while being this small.

    • @legendray2008
      @legendray2008 9 лет назад +3

      +Raptor Jesus The FuryX is priced similarly and performs better, and don't worry, the 120 rad can fit in most cases out there. Not that it's appealing to me, I actually don't like it because it's expensive. Even the 980 ti which is the king of video cards at this time, just forget about the Titan X, can fit in small cases in certain configurations. So why on earth would I be interested in paying the same amount for this Nano and settle for less performance?! I'd digest it for $475- $525. Clearly AMD is having some tough times right now on all frontiers.

      +legendray2008 It's a new product. The intention is not to make the most money, it is to spread the most awareness and get as much information as possible before kicking it into high gear for the 2nd or 3rd Generation.

    • @LimitedWard

      +legendray2008 It's designed to be the best small form factor GPU though. I would imagine this kind of thing will be very popular in extreme HTPC rigs.

    Well no shit the fury nano is 30% faster then the 970 mini. $300 different so it better be faster just saying.

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  9 лет назад +24

      +TY STOE Performance wise it makes little sense when compared to the R9 Nano. Only reason it was chosen for basis of perf comparison is because of the size... not totally fair, but as an ITX card, it should be compared to other ITX offerings.

    • @Tylerstoessel

      HardwareCanucks Yeah but $300 different? 970 mini probably still can overclock, unlike this fury nano.

      +Stan Velijev It would be perfect for me, since I have an ITX Bitfenix Prodigy with a R9 290. Because of the length of the card I can't put the hard drive tower inside. With this card it lets me do that again.

    • @Voidward
      @Voidward 9 лет назад +1

      Swift They're not going to have any luck with actually trumping Nvidia on performance anytime in the near future, so yeah it's carve out niches like or compete on the high end and fail.
      So hahahahah... yeah.

    • @ElsK81
      @ElsK81 9 лет назад +1

      +Stan Velijev nvidia wins only with the 980ti and titan x, the 390 beats the 970, the 390x gets close to 980 (50$ less, kappa), 380 beats 960, 370 beats 750 ti, 370x might be equal to 950, amd wins in everything except the enthusias market... so yeah (sorry bad english, i learn it playing wow)

    • @Voidward
      @Voidward 9 лет назад

      ElsK81 Sorry, you're right, AMD is very competitive in the budget and is about at parity in the midrange. I was mainly talking about high end performance in the previous post.

  • @devilmikey00

    Unless you are buying some uber super small cases most newer small mini itx cases are specifically designed to accept cards in excess of 10 inches. I mean the FD Node 202 is TINY and it accepts 12 inch cards. I mean buying this card might open you up to some cases but it's not like we are limited in choice for small mini ITX cases that can accept giant cards.

      +Copix Small form factor is not the future for raw performance. You will always have more room to give more oomph with a larger card than a smaller one. Also, you need a larger form factor motherboard to have SLI. Period.

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  9 лет назад +2

      +efernandez2 Considering a slightly OCed 980 Ti beats the Fury X, there will be little chance for the R9 Nano to beat the 980 Ti. But stayed tuned for our full review in mid Sept to find out :D

    • @hi9580
      @hi9580 9 лет назад

      +HardwareCanucks the reference 980 ti has roughly 2500GFLOPS less then the nano surely that makes a difference somewhere along the line

    • @midnightClub543
      @midnightClub543 9 лет назад +1

      +hi9580 Yea, but game performance shows otherwise, with the 980 Ti beating most cards when OCed, even the Titan X which is insane for the price.

    • @vijayzakhiev215
      @vijayzakhiev215 9 лет назад

      +hi9580 Well the early aots DX12 benchmark shows that DX12 does bring AMD cards closer to their theoretical compute power. I've even seen a benchmark where the 290X gets to within 2 fps of the 980Ti. If DX12 can use AMD's asynchronous shader architecture properly then the nano will probably rival the 980Ti or Titan X in some applications.

    That might sound weird but I wish 3rd party companies make so full size versions with higher TDP so it can basicaly be a non-watercooled Fury X because I really want one for my system but I don't like the looks, especially the stickers on the backplate

    • @acgandhi
      @acgandhi 9 лет назад +1

      +Θοδωρής Μαύρος The Fury (non-X) is available, and is basically is non-watercooled fury with a little less performance.
      AMD restricted the amount of board partners that could make different versions of the fury, which is why you don't see to many versions of the card.

    • @TheodoreMauros
      @TheodoreMauros 9 лет назад

      I am aware of the Fury but it seems to me that a custom pcb Nano would be better than it.

    So what you're suggesting is AMD might bin the FijiXT cores based on ASIC quality for the Nano? From what I understand, higher ASIC quality would allow the same model GPU die to run cooler and more efficiently than one with lower ASIC quality. That would explain the lower TDP. EVGA just started doing the same binning process with the 980Ti Kingpin which they claim to be the first to do so.

    Its an under-clocked Fury X that runs like a Fury at a smaller size (to fit in small PC), but same cost as a Fury X. SO in theory it runs cool and quiet. The innovation is the small PCB.

  • @SergeantPope
    @SergeantPope 9 лет назад

    The only thing I keep think about is that, besides the radiator, the R9 FuryX is pretty small as well. I'm sure the FuryX wouldn't fit in some incredibly small builds, but I feel like it could fit in most. And considering that heat exhaustion would be better with the watercooling, I feel like the idea of the FuryX would work better if you could fit it. The Nano is still bad ass though.

  • @Kozuto98

    Will the R9 Nano cards be capable of crossfire? This topic was never mentioned in the video.

  • @Outfrost
    @Outfrost 9 лет назад

    Remember the TDP is *not* the maximum load power consumption, it is what the chip and thermal solution have been designed to handle as heat output. Given that the Fury X is liquid cooled, I can easily see where the TDP comes from, especially that its GPU maxes out at about 55-60 deg.C under load with that liquid cooler.

    Im waiting for a massive beafy heatsink version

  • @dyonight
    @dyonight 9 лет назад +2

    Well the price is somewhat understandable, it's an underclocked Fury X and there's no competition as it is said in the video. AMD try to take advantage of their edge in this segment+form factor (as Nvidia did with all their Titans for high end) and I think that's ok.
    Never the less, I would rather get an itx R9 380 from Sapphire for the form factor or a Fury for price/performance but that's just me.
    But if I had cash to burn I'd get that in a heartbeat, these tiny things looks beautiful and will most probably rock really hard!

  • @Alex_704
    @Alex_704 9 лет назад

    I would never put size over performance unless i wanted to use a certain case. A great example would be one of the Lian Li cases that hang on the wall. If that was my goal then i would make that compromise. Any other situation i would not. I would just find another case that i liked. We have so many great choices now a days, why compromise?

  • @hi9580
    @hi9580 9 лет назад

    form factor over performance is important on every price point when you're limiting yourself to a single factor, those limits are important as having to build with no limits gives too many possibilities to consider

    I have been eyeing the Lian Li Pc-tu100 for a while now and I currently have a Gtx 780 direct Cu ii in my bitfenix prodigy. The Gtx 970 isn't really that much better than the 780 to make it worth it so this card would make that jump make way more sense so I think I would totally get this card over the fury x. I love the mini itx but I hate the huge card and case I got. I want a very small package that is very power. Calling it The Defiant will make way more sense with an extremely small case.

    Really interesting card, especially the size and performance in small formfactor because of HBM memory integration.
    It would be probably perfect GPU for ITX build, but I game on my ATX build and I would much rather have a bigger card with better cooling capabilities:
    - longer life
    - better performance
    - lower noise
    - maybe overclocking (although I don't overclock)
    I am really looking forward into seeing what HBM implementation will do to mobile GPUs! At the moment nVidia is a king in mobile GPU market, but if HBM GPUs can deliver better performance and lower temperatures in a smaller formfactor -> win for powerful mobile graphic cards.

    In my second PC I still use a i5-760ES @ 4.3GHz and 1.292 Volts. But in the 6 years of using the same CPU I upgraded the graphics card 3 or 4 times and it still works almost as good as my main PC for gaming in 4K. If the Motherboard would have more USB3.0-Ports and SATA 6Gb/s I would be perfectly happy with this PC.
    Long story short: I think the actual CPU-Power needed for gaming won't change much in the next years so keeping the CPU Motherboard and Ram for a longer time and upgrading the graphics card more often is the way to go for gaming! And thats the reason why I would never buy a more expensive, less powerfull graphics card like the R9 Nano.

    Having just built a mini-ITX system in an Ncase M1, I prioritized size to some extent. But I'd rather spend less than half the cost and get a nice GTX 970 and trade off the performance a touch (which is exactly what I did).

    Size isn't a big factor for me. Sure the trend now is to have smaller cases but enthusiasts still want extra performance over form factor.

    As long as people are buying Titans and 980tis based on ASICs, there is nothing to say about the price on the Nano. It is a niche product aimed at a special kind of customer, and AMD should be given credit for really hitting that market so perfectly.

    The main question is: why would I need 4096 cores in an HTPC? Seriously, if I want that powerfull system I'd opt for a good middletower or a fulltower. Or is it some muscle play in front of Microsoft and Sony?
    Up to this point I believed that it's going to be a 2048 Tonga with HBM, but now I just feel that these "up to 1000Mhz" are gonna turn into massive throttles.

    I am using a 380T from my next build. The size doesn't really matter for me, but because the Nano will cost more than 300 US dollars, I am going to use a non-reference 960 with 4 GB....

    • @arbiter1

      +Μιχάλης Ζαμάγιας at that price you could get a mini gtx970 which sells for about 300$ on newegg.

      The Evga GTX 960 SSC+ 4GB costs around 300€ in Greece. The 970 starts at 40€ more.. But thanks for letting me check again the prices of the 970s :)

    • @rafael6405

      Nano has HBM which is a lot better than a GDDR5 memory that the R9 390 has.

    • @renefras2874
      @renefras2874 8 лет назад

      +Rafael Rauhala i know hbm is a lot faster, but it is still 4 GB this can be a botzleneck in some cases, specialy in 4k. Even if it is faster, it is too small.

    This beast of a card is a game changer for AMD and will show up in many small form factor PC's because this is the way of the future! I personally want a much smaller system with a lot of horsepower. That big old noisy box that many ascribe to will become a thing of the past and no one will want them so ditch them as soon if you can find someone who will take it off your hands. This nano is energy efficient and will save on the pocket book not to mention quieter with less heat, three attributes that will make it a great seller. The three largest game consoles; Playstation, Xbox, and now Nintendo all know the value of a value chipset design that AMD is known for. Get on board folks!

    I think AMD missed an opportunity here, though that greatly assumes they have enough yield to do the following:
    R9 Nano - as is, but with a $50 lower price
    R9 Pico - Fiji Pro GPU, clocked like the Nano, $100 cheaper
    R9 Femto - 3072 SMs, limited to 75W, no PCI-e power, cheaper cooler to fit, lower price to match
    I can't imagine they don't have plenty of dies laying around where only 75% of the compute units are viable.
    I wonder if AMD holds a full-on exclusive access to HBM1 with Hynix, meaning only they will be able to make products with HBM1. If so, then we have plenty more use on the lower end for HBM1. Especially if they are electrically compatible enough that the same GPU can be selectively paired with HBM1 or HBM2.
    Of course, any usability expectations assume HBM1 will be cheaper.

  • @mdmartin77

    Same price performance is higher priority. An MATX build is just fine. Oh and it is also water cooled. So if they say it is the same card performance running 100 watts less sure sounds to good to be true. Like the Fury X is faster than the Titan X. We all know how that one worked out. Oh and where are the Fury X and Fury cards anyway? Not on the store shelves. Will the Nano be the same BS? Nice video as always.

    You should do a test of the R9 390X and see if the 8GB of GDDR5 memory makes things BETTER for games at a LOWER price rather then buying the newer R9 Nano and Fury cards.

    Really glad we are getting these cards smaller and smaller but those marketing slides are cringeworthy, as bad as the so frequently seen misleading bar graphs that don't start at 0%.
    It is marketing material though so I can't really say it is not fullfilling it's purpose.

I'm always supporting price/performance products, but a there is a "pie" in the market which prefer things like this.. and companies which gets benefits from it :)
