    I'm not sure if you script these videos or come up with phrasing beforehand, but multiple times in this video I either chuckled or was just left impressed with how eloquently you deliver the whole thing. Just wanted to let you know it doesn't go unappreciated.

    I miss the days where people tried to make compact, flagship GPU’s.

    Great review, thank you for taking the time. This might very well become an entirely new product segment, matching the popularity of mini-ITX rigs, if it takes of commercially I'd guess Nvidia is highly unprepared at the moment.
    One thing that would improve these kind of reviews would be a slight update on the games tested though. Don't get me wrong, things like the TressFX in Tomb Raider are still rather heavy on the cards but a test in a more recent benchmark standard (at the moment The Witcher 3) might be useful as a reference for the cards limits.

    Even i thought that card looked really nice in your gaming rig :) It's Really sleek.
    I can't say i've ever actually experienced coil whine with my gaming rig though (despite my rig being just over 6 years old now). I think its great that GPUs are getting much more compact and have as much ferocity packed into them as standard sized GPUs. Glad you're getting on well with your awesome build though.

    Working at my $10 an hour job to try and save for a future build I'm doing but I doubt this is going to make it. It can't be cheap can it? I'll just have to dream for now I think...

    If you only get coil whine at super high frame rates, there is a setting in Catalyst Control Centre that lets you limit frame rates (not v-sync) so if you limit it to a little above your monitors max refresh rate then not only should that calm the coil whine it will reduce the load on the card and keep it cooler which will keep the fan quieter too. Just a thought, it doesn't forgive coil whine, but it does make it almost a moot point. I just got a 390X (G1 with the Windforce cooler) and really enjoy the thought that I don't have so much energy going to waste and generating heat for extra frames I won't see. (thought I do still enjoy seeing how high the numbers go in some games when I'm actually playing them I'd rather not generate all that extra heat)

      Or just download RadeonPro and you'll have quiet few more options to play with... Like, Dynamic V-Sync, Double V-Sync, forced high priority, overclocking profiles for each game, simultaneous SMAA & FXAA, SweetFX, change FlipQueueSize, on-screen displays like temps, load, vram usage, fan speeds, etc...

    • @PAPO1990
      @PAPO1990 9 лет назад

      +z1mt0n1x all that OSD stuff is already baked into MSI Afterburner, but better still afterburner can display on a keyboard with a built in LCD (Like a G15 or G19) so you don't have crap cluttering up your screen and killing the immersion. But why would I go to the effort of having ANOTHER thing running in the background using more resources when it's all in Catalyst Control Centre, it's there already, limit the frame rate to say 10% above your screen's native refresh rate and that should stop the coil whine. Don't need all that other stuff.

    • @z1mt0n1x2
      @z1mt0n1x2 9 лет назад

      PAPO1990
      Well, doesn't hurt to try... It's free.
      And I find Dynamic V-Sync working better than Frame Limiter in CCC anyway.
      Try looking at it as an all-in-one solution.

  • @z1mt0n1x2
    @z1mt0n1x2 9 лет назад +2

    Oh well, once again, download RadeonPro and turn on Dynamic V-Sync, set it to your desired range and boom, high-framerate coilwhine gone :)

    Blunty I'm loving these video card reviews. In my main rig I'm rocking two EVGA FTW 970's, but I'm looking for a GPU to fit in my "Steam Machine" for my living room. I don't need an absolute beast, but I'm leaning toward a 960 to pair with an i3, have any thoughts?

  • @friendlessharold330
    @friendlessharold330 9 лет назад +1

    Blunty, Would locking the frame rate at the refresh rate of your monitor stop the coil whine??

    • @DarkStarchild
      @DarkStarchild 9 лет назад

      +John Smith I want to know that too, I'm thinking about getting the nano.
      I do know that on the graphics card I have at the moment (Sapphire 270x) I only get coil whine when I turn vsync off and get a very high frame rate... like 200-300+ fps. Turning on vsync and it's not there at all.

  • @stephenmeme3072

    The next small rig I put together this baby is going in. What CPU would you match for this card, AMD APU , FX or Intel ? Intel cost a lot more but some games work better because of how some games use cores I have read.

    • @davideverett2
      @davideverett2 9 лет назад

      +Stephen meme Personally I'd stay away from AMD cpu/apu's until they release Zen. The performance difference is quite significant now, An Intel i5 gives a good balance between cost and performance.

    • @stephenmeme3072
      @stephenmeme3072 9 лет назад

      Hey buddy,, the Zen,s look good. I already have FX 9590 It does all I want. As for an i5 I would still go for the A10 7850 or above over the i5. I have built 3 A10s and they play any game even better then some of the FX, i5 and i7 in some games. For around $200 it's awesome. I also should add Motherboard and RAM can make it or slow it like all CPUs. :)

    • @davideverett2
      @davideverett2 9 лет назад

      +Stephen meme Ram speed plays a big part in an APU's gaming performance which makes me wonder whether the Zen APU range with the fastest DDR4 will be the first real 1080p capable chip without adding a card to it, Interesting times ahead.

    Except for the streaming features Nvidia provides and G Sync, I don't think there is any reason to look over this beast. Honestly I was amazed that it was as advertised. I would have serious testicle deciding between this and an Nvidia card just because I want the coop gaming feature that is supposed to come out soon

    • @starwagon

      +Gerhard Plesch AMD has Free Sync though. And streaming feature? On the Nvidia Shield?

    • @GerhardPlesch
      @GerhardPlesch 9 лет назад

      From what I read Free Sync is not G Sync and can't match it's abilities. I meant the features coming, one of which is the ability for someone else in the world to take second controller as if they are playing next to you. If it works as advertised, it would be a feature I would love to take advantage of

  • @projectrallus

    can you prevent coil whine by just capping your fps?

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  9 лет назад

      +projectrallus yes.

    • @z1mt0n1x2
      @z1mt0n1x2 9 лет назад

      +projectrallus Download RadeonPro and turn on Dynamic V-Sync :)
      It uses V-Sync when hitting your desired FPS (51fps is you so desire) and turns off when going below. It also has a built-in recording program with compression profiles and an FPS benchmark counter like Fraps but a fair bit more advanced.
      You can adjust level of details in games, add/remove/edit SweetFX profiles or make your own profile, and also add SMAA and FXAA into any game (even games that doesn't support it natively).
      And, as a neat feature, you can make overclocking profiles that automatically kicks in when you launch the games from the list that you've added in RadeonPro yourself :)
      How awesome is that? I find it very disturbing that this program is very unknown among AMD users themselves, it works with Nvidia cards too (well, at least SweetFX does). Instead, Nvidia users have something called Nvidia-Inspector.
      In my opinion, 1440p with SMAA (ultra) looks almost as sharp as 4k, except it doesn't draw as much resources as 4k itself.

    • @projectrallus
      @projectrallus 9 лет назад

      +z1mt0n1x I'll have to look into nvidia inspector

      +Blunty so using vsync to cap the frame rate to 60fps will make the coil whine completely go away? I'm thinking about getting the fury nano

      Damien O'Brien Get the Fury X... no point getting the Nano unless you need it because the big-boy won't fit in your rig. They're priced pretty much the same, and the X will outperform it as it's clocked higher.

      +Blunty Looking at these cards my self atm. Despite me having a big case it looks the the Nano may be the better option than the Fury as based on current UK prices it's at least £50 cheaper than it's big brother.
