    I doubt McBeth's second shot will haunt him. That was the right play. There's no way he could have dreamed Conrad would throw in like that. As someone once famously said, it is possible to make no mistakes and still lose. Just a magical shot by Conrad.

    • @shadowdancenz
      @shadowdancenz 3 года назад +10

      I agree. The only slight regret he might have (always with hindsight I know) is using a driver on that play off hole. The risk of it still not having lost speed when it hit the ground was going to lead to the risk of going into the water.

    • @valttimartti

      Let's imagine Paul's second shot is a try to the green and it goes OB. Then he still has a putt for par, maybe 40 footer. But if it stays in, then for sure most likely birdie. Hard decisions at the time, but maybe Paul could/should have tried to be more aggressive with the second shot...

      @@shadowdancenz that was Paul's play on 16 all three rounds and he only went out of bounds in the playoff. And plenty of players who went putter had the disc drop out on them and fall short of the green.
      Honestly there was only one player in the MPO or FPO fields who seemed to figure out a completely reliable way to nail the green there, and it was Conrad. And his approach - a super high stall hyzer with a putter - honestly seems crazy and risky. But the dude got 3 birdies and an ace so clearly it was dialed.

    Just getting into disc golf, so late to this one. I’d say that drive to the island was his better shot of the 2. The field ace was amazing but it was as much luck as skill, that’ll miss 99 times out of a hundred (and still be a great shot), plus’s it was all he could do, so really the pressure was off to an extent. The pressure on that island drive was massive and to park it like that was amazing.

      All his tee shots on 16 that week used that same disc and strategy. Each time, it was either parked or, on one occasion, aced. Was he nervous the last time he went up there? Sure, but by then, he had dialed that shot in. 18 had way smaller margin of error.

    • @Yosser70
      @Yosser70 2 года назад

      @@EMichaelBall I’m sure you’re right but the best player in the world, who’s been in that situation more than anyone, stuffed his shot on 16, so what came before, doesn’t seem to matter. I’m not saying the shot on 18 wasn’t good, I mean it was just as much luck as it was a good shot. He gave it the best chance of going in but you can see from his reaction how surprised he was. It’s like a hole in one, no one stands on the tee and thinks, right I’m going for an ace, there’s just too many variables. They want to get close and if it goes in, it’s lucky, so there’s no more skill involved in a hole in one than a parked shot. In fact, there’s possibly less skill in an ace because if it didn’t go in, their shot would often be pretty long. Anyway, it’s still fun to watch and happy for the guy.

      @Stuart H I'm not being sarcastic in the tiniest bit. Conrad is a great golfer, but so are 20 or more other people and more coming out of the woodwork. Conrad could win it again, but I sure don't expect him too.

    Where else in disc golf could you find stands full of fans and a fairway shaped for viewing into a beautiful green on hole 18? It’s as if this place was made just for that moment. A crazy throw in for the biggest tournament of the year. To do that in front of all of his peers must feel really good for James as well.

    Not sure why I was recommended this video. I know nothing about disc golf, but this kicked ass. That long shot off the hill was cool as hell too, but I really don't know how to judge this sort of thing, so maybe it was rudimentary. Anyway, I think I might have to start watching this. I throw a frisbee with my pug sometimes and that is basically the extent of my understanding of the sport.

    incredible shot. but i would have liked you doing an actual breakdown. where was your analysis of how difficult the angle is, the distance, the weather, the rate of these shots landing in regulation play from record? where are the interview clips of Conrad reflecting back on what happened to him, and the career he had leading up to his victory? i wanted to hear these things rather than watch you play the clip and post it on your channel.

    This has to be the greatest thing to happen in modern weird sports! This has got to be more difficult than the Grave Digger’s run in Boise Idaho. Or the dart championship of ‘83. I think it even better than Earl Anthony’s run in ‘87! Just tremendous.

    MVP needs to get him a Destroyer clone, pronto. He's had trouble all year with maxD shots. Luckily, this tourney didn't really require a lot of that kind of golf, not even at Mulligans... also, it's the one real glaring weakness in their line-up.

    You can replay that scenario a million times and Paul wins the tournament, there was one possible scenario that was so highly unlikely and James beat the odds, one if the most clutch shots in sports history, a winning jumpshot is a 20 or 30 footer that NBA guys make all the time, bottom of the 9th homer, MLB guys homer all the time, seasoned discgolf pros do not have a high percentage of makes from 247', add it all up and this is one of the most incredible moments to date in sports history!! Forever etched in the discgolf world!!

    Btw, I wouldn’t think anyone, especially Paul, would be “haunted” by that upshot...it was 120% THE play no matter what...just think if he had gone for the basket and went OB allowing James to tie and win later because of a mistake...Paul didn’t make any mistakes..bot even on the last hole..well thrown and if you look at the stats for the week of that happening when trying to hit an island the size of C1...well, there you go.
