    Important thing you missed: Biel-Tan has actually recovered alot numbers-wise because they've started to recruit from Exodite Worlds, which means they're actually doing alot to politically reunify the Eldar and actually using common sense to recover as a faction while maintaining their previous status-quo. One of the best parts about Biel-Tan is how, despite arguably being the worst Craftworld morally, their drive and obsession to reclaim the Empire makes them the most successful because they actually have hope and a vision for the future beyond mere survival.

    • @sulphuric_glue4468
      @sulphuric_glue4468 Месяц назад +12

      I mean a lot of the Aeldari are not really that racist, at least not beyond the extremely obvious sentiment of "we will always prioritise our own kind above any others" that isn't at all racist and is a natural and correct thought process in such a hostile galaxy - if you don't act that way, your species will die. The degree to which Aeldari are xenophobic is grossly exaggerated just because they're not humans. Sure, they'll make other species act as meat shields for them wherever possible, but that's hardly racist, that's wanting to protect your own species from dying when its continued survival is already uncertain. It's coldly utilitarian, not hateful or cruel.
      I think you can confidently say that the majority of Aeldari do not really hate humans (at least Asuryani and Exodites - Drukhari are a pretty hateful bunch). It's absolutely true that they generally have a low opinion of humanity, considering them annoying pests and dumb brutes who are easily corruptible, and who are more than a little disgusting and often get in the way. However, even by far the most racist and xenophobic Aeldari of Biel-Tan don't want to destroy humanity in principle, they are just willing to be exceptionally violent to reclaim what they believe is theirs, and they're willing to ally with humans on occasion.
      The Aeldari are the most intelligent species in 40k and are able to recognise that humanity is extremely diverse and that humans exist on a spectrum between good and evil. Humans can be wretched or noble, treacherous or loyal, enemies or allies. The Aeldari hate some humans, but they don't hate humanity, and have a lot of respect for the humans they do like. They know that humans are intelligent (though less intelligent than them) and have a lot of empathy for them, which is why the War-Mask is a thing, as without it they'd find it extremely difficult to kill humans and would be permanently tortured by the memory of it.

    I want in 11th edition for the big lore step forward to be Biel-Tan securing a Tau-empire sized section of the galaxy where they have ~100 worlds just for themselves and are able to get the eldar population up into the billions again by settling them. It would be nice for their numbers to actually increase and for there to be eldar planets rather than just having the number of eldar decreasing. That means that the prospect of an Aeldari empire returning is no longer a laughable fringe idea but actually something that people in the setting have to take as a serious threat. Seems only fair now that the imperium is pulling all of their loyalist primarchs out of the galactic refrigerator and every other faction has *something* which is cranking their power levels up.

    • @timhare9867
      @timhare9867 Месяц назад +6

      If you want the Eldar to have a win in 40k I don’t think that’s the way to do. Firstly Eldar population growth is low because they seem to have a natural low population growth anyway. And the fact they have to actively suppress their emotions probably isn’t conductive to procreation. What kind of mother and father would want to bring a child into a world where there is a malevolent goddess constantly thirsting for their soul so it can subject them to everlasting torture and torment when they die?
      Eldar population growth is also dependent on their supply of souls stones, which are extremely dangerous to harvest. So saddling any Craftworld with 100 sparsely populated worlds to defend would just be denying the Eldar one of their last remaining advantages. Strategic mobility, as the Craftworld would be entirely restricted to a single sector of space trying desperately to defend borders it doesn’t have the manpower to hold. Humans, Orcks and Tyranids can all afford those types of losses.
      A dying race like the Eldar cannot.
      If you want to see the Eldar get a much deserved win, I’d go one of two ways.
      Either allow them to use their reawakened and still surviving Gods and Goddesses to deal Slannesh a mortal blow in the warp, freeing untold billions or tormented Aeldari souls from her clutches. Eldar souls never die. We’ve seen they can be transplanted into wraithbone constructs, and even into cloned bodies grown in a test tube within Commorragh.
      Or like as happened with the Orks and the Krork, establish the Eldar in 40k are a watered down ‘de-evolved’ version of a much more powerful Aeldari super race that existed 60 million years ago during the war in heaven. Then have then slowly begin to re-evolve into that super-race, where they can shed their material forms for immaterial ones at will.
      Imagine how powerful an evolved Eldar race would be that possessed both Commorragh and the Dark City’s ability to clone billions of warriors a day connected via the Webway to every Craftworld. They’d have complete strategic access to the galaxy, no permanent territory to defend, and the ability to replace huge losses within hours of warriors being, as their souls can just be put into cloned bodies or wraithbone, over and over and over again.

      It's why I tend to roll my eyes at the "there are no good guys in 40K" line. Yes, every faction could be the bad guys in a "normal" setting... but as much as the Eldar tendency to view Eldar life as orders of magnitude more valuable than that of aliens, that Craftworlders place any value on the lives of aliens at all makes them a lot better than most of the Imperium (and there are references floating around that suggest that many craftworlds have normal diplomatic relations with other species, just not the ones trying to kill them. Craftworld Eldar are one of a very short list of factions that could win in the end and not result in a terrible state of affairs because we've seen that outcome - they ruled until the Fall and mostly kept the more aggressive races in check while leaving everyone else alone.

      @Draxynnic Месяц назад +3

      @@joshjonson2368 That might be the case now, and from any perspective but the human perspective, who'd blame them? Humans have become a xenocidal species that are just as great a threat to everyone else as the Tyranids, Chaos, and Orks. While there is some difference in that humans CAN be engaged in diplomacy and thus there is SOME hope of changing that, the Great Crusade and its aftermath is probably the greatest mass extinction event for sapient life in the galaxy since the aftermath of the War in Heaven, and I'm not even sure it doesn't beat that.
      More importantly, remember that the original rise of human spacefaring civilisation happened during the height of the Eldar empire where they DID have the ability to squash them like a bug if they so chose. They didn't. Every race that reached the stars from the end of the War in Heaven to M30 or so did so in the context of an Eldar empire that could have exterminated them (with the exception of the orks that were hard to exterminate altogether, but the Eldar did smack them down from being Krork), but didn't. Including humanity. One could argue that this was in the context of relaxing their grip due to the Fall having already have started, but if the Eldar had behaved like the Imperium does, it wouldn't have mattered - they'd have colonised every world in the galaxy and exterminated all competition.
      The Eldar might be regretting that decision now, but the Eldar were the undisputed dominant power in the galaxy for millions of years... and they allowed other races space to grow. While if the Imperium didn't have its attention tied up by the Tyranids, Chaos, and other threats, it would have wiped out every nonhuman sapient species that was not able to adapt to living on spaceships travelling through the void or other places the Imperium would find hard to reach.
      In short, we've seen what Eldar hegemony looked like. Compared to anything before or since, except MAYBE the Old One hegemony before the War in Heaven started, it was a golden age for a diversity of civilisations.

      @@joshjonson2368 Look at the galaxy from the perspective of an innocent and peaceful alien race just taking its first steps into the stars with no intentions to harm anyone. Humans in 40K are, from their perspective, the bad guys - an existential threat, in fact. The Craftworld Eldar aren't.
      That' the thing with the 40k setting - the "there are no good guys" framing only works because humans are clearly bad guys in the setting, and therefore any actual good guys would be trying whatever they could to restrain the xenocidal impulses of humans... which makes them bad guys from the viewpoint of humanity. From the viewpoint of anyone ELSE, though, the Craftworld Eldar will leave you alone unless you pose a threat to them or move onto a world they've claimed. In the latter case, they'll usually at least give you a warning, and might even help you move. The former case is, of course, the scary one because they might pre-emptively punish you for something they predicted your descendants might do thousands of years in the future - but that's still a case of a credible threat. The Imperium will wipe you out just because they think your homeworld would be better as just another human colony. Something that the Tau, for instance canonically only avoided due to deus ex warp storm. Countless other species didn't have the benefit of that (I personally don't actually consider it to be plot armour as some people claim, it's survivorship bias - with hundreds or thousands of species wiped out by the Imperium, the ones we hear about are those that were lucky enough to avoid routine extermination somehow).

    One of the more frustrating things regarding the 40k universe and story line is, especially for those who want good story telling in the first place, is the ever looming "why don't they just work together" aspect of everything that happens in said universe. This is why, in my opinion, Fantasy had such zealous fans as you were more likely to find friendships and allies.
    In 40k it gets frustrating as you find out in most stories the reason why you won't have factions work together cause "well it's a wargame duh".
    But the subject of this video pretty much going "cause working with others is stupid" is actually pretty funny
