Pol Pot born Saloth Sâr was a Cambodian revolutionary, dictator, and politician who ruled Cambodia as Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea between 1976 and 1979. Ideologically a Marxist-Leninist and a Khmer nationalist, he was a leading member of Cambodia's communist movement, the Khmer Rouge, from 1963 until 1997 and he served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Kampuchea from 1963 to 1981. Under his administration, Cambodia was converted into a one-party communist state and the Cambodian genocide of an estimated 1.5 - 2 million people was perpetrated. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. My Mom is a survivor of this genocide which means alot of my family members were victims. My Father in his teens was infantry defending the Lao borders for the Lao Royal Army during this time.
My mother father said that the khmer was cruel more than what we imagination...cant describe..

How did Pol Pot rise to power over Cambodia and the Cambodian peoples? Is because of Cambodia emperor Norodom Sihanouk who trusted Pol Pot and was later been over throw by Pol Pot himself. This was during the time the US was bombing along Cambodia Vietnam border during the Vietnam War

Pol pot, as most of our egoist elites running our government for their own twisted ideologies, was a Cambodian of the upper strata who studied in 1940’s France and became a communist party member there. He brought those ideas with him and tried to implement that ideology once he was in power.

They managed to get sponsored and escape to florida. My mom has developed schizophrenia and ptsd and the oldest son also developed severe schizophrenia. Ny other uncles got help and are okay. US lost Vietnam war , wanted to use pol pot to fight Vietnam as revenge. US acknowledge pol pot as real prime minister of Cambodia in the 80s and 90s in the united nation meeting
He wasn't "rich" or an elite he was just slightly more well off than others. One of the biggest social reconstruction genocides known to human history. He was trying to build a classless state but was his goals just centered around upping production to make his country richer. There doesn't seem to be much proof that he was actually worried about the less fortunate. It just seems like he created one big labor camp to raise his country's wealth.
