I think that the main reason why i like Cal is his personality. For me, he is a common person, and you can easilyput yourself in his place, but he is also morally strong enough to continue fighting even after all what he's been through.
I also like the fact that he understood that order is gone, so there is no such rules about attachments (Yeah, it was Bode's plan, but it shows that he had feelings for Merrin, and he was ready to trust in his heart, even if this will play against him).

What the fuck are you talking about "sold on his devotion to those around him"? Go lecture the empire or the Bedlam Raiders or the Haxion Brood.
Don't forget in the second game, Merrin ran off to explore the galaxy, Cere ran off to hide in a cave, and Greez left to go start a saloon.
When order 66 hit, he lost any requirement to adhere to an order or do this or that. Things simply became a matter of survival. Despite that, he did take on additional responsibilities.
Where the fuck in any of that do you see a "lack of devotion"? He had to convince everybody in Jedi Survivor to even follow the Tanalorr route.

If he stays on that path he could be a top tier Jedi in the future, Mace Windu tier.
Remember that Windu used the seventh form of combat, involving abilities from the dark side of the force. Cal seems to be able to control dark side powers while staying on the light side.
Windu had enough power to defeat Palpatine, if Anakin hadn't betrayed him. Cal could be in the same level in the future if he finds any of the surviving masters and receives proper training.

I think what really make Cal work similarly to Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian and Diego Luna as Cassian Andor is Cameron Monaghan’s amazing performance. Dude has always been a phenomenal actor just look at how great he was on Gotham as the Joker. The show got more views whenever he was in an episode and for good reason. Cameron really made Cal his own and he isn’t one note or perfect at everything. Cal has a sort of innocence to him despite being alone for 5 years in jedi fallen order, but then gradually loses that in survivor when he feels the pull of the dark and finally losing cere. It’s sort of a story on trauma. I mean cal was basically a child soldier who lost everything and everyone in one go. It’s absolutely perplexing how out of all disney Star Wars Cal’s story is so much better written and acted than so much of the other stuff they are doing and that is also due to the stellar performances of everyone around him.

Cal is an amazing character. In a sense he is a better Anakin, like Anakin love/romantic subplot is drawing him away from being a jedi. With Cal its more believable, and his attachments and losses are more compelling than Anakin's were.
But central for me, and where modern star wars seems to be kind of failing, Cal is likable in that he can make friends, pursue a romance and deeply care about the people around him. It makes him feel more grounded and makes you want to root for him.

It’s cuz he’s not a Jedi he’s a survivor there’s a difference in the way they live, fight, think, an npc even says this about cal in a convo something along the lines of “you look real gentle on the outside but I can see in your eyes you’re a predator” something like that. A survivor is fundamentally different it’s like Rick from Twd who ate a man’s neck to survive a fight cal will use his surroundings and do anything he can to survive and protect those he loves.

  • @TheJoker-gg8hc

The answer to the question is simple and easy. We're surrounded by feminist propaganda right now and the games were a curve ball. They featured so many men in a "neutral way" and a lot of men in "heroic ways" too.
In the first game, Prauf dies saving Cal almost immediately. In the second game, yes a woman dies, but Bravo and the twins also immediately die, by Cals side.
Cere Junda didn't play the feminist cards, Merrin didn't play the feminist cards. Cere Junda was just a "jedi survivor" who found a new padawan and didn't abandon him to die. Merrin "came around" to Cals side. She played a very natural "self defensive" and "protective" role on her planet in the first game and gave off a lot of what I would call "accurate vibes". And she naturally came around to understand Cal, and then decided she didn't need to stay on Dathomir and suffer with all of her dead family.
In both games, even if the "protagonist characters" had real visible flaws, they weren't portrayed like barbarians or inherently evil.
