The creative director for both Jedi games left the company, and took a lot of senior we engineers with him, so I'm at least not holding my breath on the quality of the writing for the third game, but hopefully enough of it was outlined and enough of the original staff remains for it to be good.
I perceive Cal as a younger human version of Yoda, someone who is at its core a force user with powerful consular like abilities but trained extensively or was exposed enough to lightsaber combat to be on par with above average duelists at the very least, given the characters he defeats. (yoda being much older however can even tackle Dooku/Sidious which is peak, but I mean you can't beat how ancient Yoda's race is really, tough Yoda's lightsaber skill is more intentional) As for Cal joining Luke's Jedi Order, one neat way to retcon him into it would be to put him into a position akin to Katarn's but throw him out into the wild on long term missions like scouring the galaxy for sith artifacts and holocrons, like jedi shadows used to, that might be a good way of saying "he was always there he just went unnoticed because he was out of camera" while giving an excuse to have a show with Cal and possibly Ahsoka and other new characters without having to literally rewrite cannon while still retconing it.
I definitely think Cal has unspoken consular qualities. He often tries to seek allies in people. And it worked wonders with Merrin. It took him going on his own journey, but he realised she was just another scared and scarred survivor, like himself. Of course, he also hears force echos in her story. I think it’s telling how much faith he puts in her, though, before fighting Malicos (a Jedi master, we should remind ourselves… Cal beat a Jedi master [with help]). He literally gives her his lightsaber. He may not have been told ‘this weapon is your life’, by Obi-Wan, but certainly he’s learned similar lessons. Besides, when his crystal broke… he had no choice but run for dear life to escape Dathomir. That weapon really was his life.
In Survivor he's still behind Cere's level, but still he's not at his peak. Hope they don't turn him a dark jedi, but rather continuing his arc which could absolutely merge with EU Luke's Jedi Academy and turning out one of the most proficient jedi (alongside the Dathomirian force user Merrin and their adopted daughter, biological seed of Bode - all this story fits so well in Luke's EU jedi academy)

I think one of Cal’s underrated feats was After restoring his connection to the force, he fought and pressured Taron Malicos in a light saber fight, Who was a former Jedi master who had turn to the Darkside and was being strengthened by the Darkside Nexxus of Dathomir. Though Cal was Inferior in the force department and needed help to defeat him.
All of the fights Cal goes in he's at a disadvantage. Against Trilla and 9th sister his connection was blocked Against Malicos he was in a darkside Nexus Against dagan he was hit with an illusion and out fenced him in the their second duel. Emotionally conflicted against Bode both times and showed superiority once no one got in his way.
Also the fact that (and no one seems to ever mention this) he stopped training in any fashion for 10 years and was separated from the force. And in the span of a few days, was able to defeat two inquisitors and a former Jedi master. Hell, the fact he didn’t just get instantly murdered by Vader should be proof alone
@@damonedrington3453 I don’t think the course of Jedi fallen order was a few days, especially with the Kashyyyk story of the empire regaining control i thought it more like a couple weeks to a few months but condensed for a game story line
Any Jedi powerful enough to survive Darth Vader on multiple occasions is already enough to put someone up there with the most powerful masters of the era, even when disregarding his other feats.
The fact he's faced off against Vader and a High Republic Jedi is just insane and probably means he could have easily made council but they probably would have tried killing him for using the dark side to amp his already impressive natural abilities.

In regards to Cal’s lightsaber skills, I’ve always been under the impression that he combined his implied talent in Form VI Niman with the simplistic blade work of Form I Shii-Cho, given that Cal was a young Padawan when Order 66 was issued and the wide sweeping attack sequences he employed.
He was with Jaro for 3 years form 1 seems to be his fallback due to his lack of confidence with form 6 after being out of practice but by end he mixed them together.
Respawn has definitely outdone themselves with Fallen Order, and Jedi Survivor. Can’t wait for the third installment (ps wish they’d make Titanfall 3. TF2 story was amazing as well)
Sounds like he was very similar to Luke, everything he pretty much had to learn on this own. That is the best part no dogma, learning from both sides, and learning from scratch even in the real world is better than learning from a book.
Cal is a Jedi who has learned to use his passion for good. And any sith would know that passion is power under the right circumstances of anger through the dark side. But Cal learned patience. The sith greatest downfall was being impatient. Truely, a powerful force user to reckon with
I can't wait to see how powerful Cal Kestis will become in the third game especially since his powers are growing both in the light and dark side. I think in the third game the developers should have Merrin teach Cal how to properly channel the dark side without being corrupted by it because unlike the sith the nightsisters are in harmony with the dark side
Yeah, that's a great idea. If Cal is able to utilize the dark side without being consumed by it that'd be a huge advantage over another force users. I'm not sure if anyone besides legends Luke was able to do that and he certainly has the potential to control it
Personally hope there is no Vader cameo in the third one. They put him in everything for member berries at this point. If it's post-Empire, it might be fun to have him beat up Kylo Ren during a one-off encounter since he fancies himself the Dollar Store knock-off of Darth Vader. And he kind of deserves to get smacked around prior to his "redemption" for what he did to Han Solo. Not to mention Iden's hubby and others.

There is a difference between a trained warrior, a Soldier, and a Survivor. One Is Taught the proper ways of combat, the other learns the ways of war, and the survivor learns how to LIVE. It may sound reductive to a degree against the trained warrior and the Soldier... but the survivor grows by his own merit, skill, and adaptable nature. They don't worry about Honour, justice, or things like that... their only focus is to see the sun rise tomorrow. You can fight and defeat a trained warrior in battle, You can over come and make a solider surrender, but a Survivor fights to thier last moment... because in order for them TOO fight, they must be under threat.. and threats will be Exterminated.
I don’t know at what date Jedi Survivor takes place, but it should be around the battle of Yavin. It would be a great story if Cal became a member of GM Luke's New Jedi Order alongside Kyp Durron, Kyle Katarn etc. They share common values and philosophies (using dark side forces without being corrupted), Cal is very versatile in force skills, he takes leadership to secure the life of a group of force skilled people, he has fought against the inquisition for many years. He would fit perfectly into being a member Luke's New Jedi Order
If only Luke's Order wasn't doomed to bad writing that culminates in him becoming a hermit living on green milk. I think Cal would quickly exit stage left back to Tanalorr once he saw that happen.
@@The_Lucent_Archangel nah, I'm pretty sure EU Grandmaster Luke doesn’t like green milk. Please don't remind me of that Sequel 🗑️ , I suffered PTSD after watching that trash.
He's just the classic "I learned from the school of life" archetype, he's good because he learned to fight and use the Force, not in some cozy room in Coruscant deflecting laser bolts from a Marksman-H, but by actually fighting other soldiers and sith. He's like in RPGs when you just go straight towards the higher level enemies, tough it out and beat them which makes you level up much faster than with natural progression.
I think a part of it - other than 'its a game bruh!' - is that Cal was retaught the Force through ancient knowledge. The Zeffo, Kashyyyk and Dathomir's ancient power and the High Republic plus whatever was special about Bogano have all had an effect. As Malicos said, the Jedi were 'stifled' by tradition which means, I think, they possibly prevented growth because their own history told them that powerful Jedi are also dangerous and therefore keeping someone from realising their true potential would prevent them becoming a threat to the Order. Dagan Gera is a prime example of someone who was given the sufficient freedom to stray from the Path and as such threatened the Order when their needs weren't met. In contrast Mace Windu was on the Council and so had the space to become the badass m*therf*cker he was. Ultimately Cal has been afforded substantial space whilst also benefiting from the two titles: Fallen Order being the loss of the controls that would have kept him in check with constant tutelage from his Master and Survivor adding to that power because, and I'm quoting something else entirely now, but I think it's apt, in the game of survival there are no rules. Bode reminds Cal of his own self-imposed rules about love in the game, but it's probably the last bastion of adherence to the old ways that Cal is still following. Otherwise he hasn't held himself back too much, perhaps the last power-amp being driven by the death of his surrogate Master as history threatens to repeat itself. I just hope we get Force Jump in the next game cos all that platforming can be a right pain!
Cals power increase from fallen order to survivor is insane. Went from struggling against inquisitiors to killing them with ease. Not to mention killing rayvis and dagan
Isn't wild how a Game studio on a limited budget can create better characters and stories than the richest company on the planet with infinite money and time
I think Cal Kestis and Legends’ Luke were evidence that Jedi Order durning the prequel were largely wrong how they train their students. The Order were trying to making them into the prefect Jedi instead of the best the version of the Jedi they wanted to be.

Cal does not use any of the 7 lighsaber forms, the only one he was probably taught was form 1 as he was so early in his padawanhood. He has a self learnt style which suits him well. He uses form 1, 4, 5, 6-ish manouvers, but neither form in particular and adds a lot of unique. His greatest strength is his high force potential and talent to wield the force in so many ways.
He was made a padawan after the battle of Geonosis (attack of the clones). His strength lies in lightsaber combat. The art of the game book for JFO confirms this. Niman being his form makes sense. His ability to wield the force also in highly stressful situations is what Jaro taught him.

I really loved the way he crushes the droids like aluminum cans of softdrinks every time he embraces his darkness, if only he learns force lightning he'd be an even more formidable opponent against the empire
In the EU you need years in using the dark side of the force to be able to use force lightning also you need to let the dark side flow through you in anger and desire to inflict pain
In my canon he indeed Joins Luke’s New Jedi Order and Becomes Its First True Jedi Weapon Master A.k.a The Next Vodo-Siosk Baas and he even befriends Starkiller (Galen Marek’s Clone)
If he continues to advance in power, and as rapidly as we've seen, I could see a very real chance of The Emperor giving Cal his personal attention. Which would be quite the show down.

Cal is someone i can relate too. He's also compassionate, and loyal to his crew, and always tries to do the thing. He makes mistakes sure but cal is still a true jedi.
I feel like Cal is such a wild card of a Jedi. That’s attributed to the game-ification of his character cuz he is, ya know, the player character. But I see him as kind of an experiment of a Jedi. What if a Jedi had a gun, what if a Jedi wasn’t restrained by the dogma of the Jedi code, and not taught what his master thought he needed, but he learned what he NEEDS to know to survive. It’s also a great diamond in the rough story.
When it comes to the survivor story, I think the mystery of bode's master may well come in the next installment, like sidious, bode was able to completely mask his mind from detection from nearby force users. He wasnt aligned at all with the inquisitors so it was likely somebody outside this realm. The rule of two is only so when the current sith lord cant detect any other sith around except for his apprentice. The star wars universe NEEDS more independant force users that arent aligned with the normally known factions, however hazardous it is for them to exist so.
Cal is quite skilled in Force abilities and Lightsaber combat despite not finishing his Jedi training. I really like that he is able traverse multiple planets, take on multiple stormtroopers, purgetroopers and Inquisitors as well! Cal hadn't used any of his Force skills, as well as his lightsaber for five years. Through re-connecting with the Force, he was able to get what he needed to get done on each planet and access the Holocron on Bogano. He survived an encounter with Darth Vader. Not many Jedi can say that.
I think something else that's really important here, and I know there are many comments and someone has undoubtedly mentioned this: Cal had many journeys with both the night sister maren and Jedi Master cere Junda, who we already know has taught him things off screen, and while I know they don't show anything in relation to lightsaber training, I feel like she must have taught him a few things in relation to lightsaber technique, especially when you consider that their combat skills are largely similar; it's just that one of them is a Jedi master trained in the days of the Old Republic, when the Jedi were at the height of their power and skill, and the other is an incredibly powerful and didactic Jedi Knight. Super cool topic too btw; I love this game, and Star wars with a passion I cannot describe, and I'm sure everyone involved with this channel does as well, thank you so much for making this guys 😃
my theory is that when order 66 killed so many extremely force-sensitive individuals it super charged the force itself allowing open-minded individuals like Cal and Ezra to reach nigh unprecedented heights of strength far more quickly then would otherwise be possible and that is not even considering how the empire forced them to gain that strength or die.
I remember that being a theory years back when the rule of two was first introduced. It was the only reason that made sense for the Sith to keep their numbers so low.
@@derek96720 not exactly. similar principle but inverted. the basic idea is that like the body returning to the soil and giving new life after death the force may also work like that and if that is the case than keeping you're numbers so low would actually hinder growth. another possibility is that the sudden change in the balance broke the millennium of stagnancy and allowed more power to be readily available (watch avatar's description of chakra pools to give an idea of how that might work). I have other theories but this is getting long enough as is.
Stances were cool - but I found that the double lightsaber was basically the best. Heavy for some units and single for others, but majority the double lightsaber. I sweared a lot in this game at the controls, enemies spamming red attacks on you, and good luck healing during combat with slow command response. The powers you unlock also felt underwhelmed or insignificant 80% of the time. I'm like "you JUST learned this, why can't you use it - dumb game".
(yoda being much older however can even tackle Dooku/Sidious which is peak, but I mean you can't beat how ancient Yoda's race is really, tough Yoda's lightsaber skill is more intentional)
As for Cal joining Luke's Jedi Order, one neat way to retcon him into it would be to put him into a position akin to Katarn's but throw him out into the wild on long term missions like scouring the galaxy for sith artifacts and holocrons, like jedi shadows used to, that might be a good way of saying "he was always there he just went unnoticed because he was out of camera" while giving an excuse to have a show with Cal and possibly Ahsoka and other new characters without having to literally rewrite cannon while still retconing it.
I can’t wait to see how powerful Jedi Master Cal Kestis is
In Survivor he's still behind Cere's level, but still he's not at his peak.
@@Maddog-xc2zv nah id love him becoming the kind of jedi that aims to understand all sides of the force. I guess thats something that could fit in the EU academy
@@simonji2940 that's a great path and yes I agree is achievable in Luke's EU academy, not on Disney Universe for sure

If anything Cal will be something more akin to a grey Jedi.
I loved Cal’s stories from Fallen Order & Survivor
I wish Cal would have an appearance in some other series. And in case something happens to him in the games, I only have one arm so I never got a chance to play them.

I'm sorry for your lack of a limb.

Against Trilla and 9th sister his connection was blocked
Against Malicos he was in a darkside Nexus
Against dagan he was hit with an illusion and out fenced him in the their second duel.
So what if he needed help? He was still the one doing the bulk of the work.
He survived Vader 1 time lol. Cere is the only one who fought him more than once, and she died her second time.
Cal aint seen Vader since Fallen Order
Cal didnt face Vader in survivor.
@@LimmeLimbo Not in person but he sees him through the force echos.
That and also she was a former Jedi master who cut off her connection to the force as well
Honestly he’s by far the best part of Disney Star Wars. Nothing shines brighter than him from this era and from EA no less
The fact he's faced off against Vader and a High Republic Jedi is just insane and probably means he could have easily made council but they probably would have tried killing him for using the dark side to amp his already impressive natural abilities.
Starkiller and Cal are my two favorite non-main characters ever!!
Pretty sure Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor are both canon

TF2 story was amazing as well)
Good work on spotlighting Cal, definitely the most relatable SW char for me. Excited for more content featuring this char.
I'm not sure if anyone besides legends Luke was able to do that and he certainly has the potential to control it
He has to be strong enough to go toe to toe with Vader in the next game, so yeah. lol
@@The_Lucent_Archangel Cal and Vader have history, plus he killed Cere. You don’t understand how storytelling works. Kylo Ren? I am greatful you have nothing to do with this series. What an awful idea.
@@AzulApe yeah but Cal would still lose, unless they want to redo all canon.
@@dariyanvalentine3564 Vader has taken L’s before. Cal just can’t kill him. Which frankly would be a full circle for him showing he’s a true Jedi. Then we can put his arc with Vader to bed and move him into other stories. Unless they want him to die, which I am not a fan of. Especially when Disney is afraid to kill Ahsoka.
@@AzulApe Yeah theres multiple bosses in the game you fight without killing them, still makes for cool fights

Why?? there’s nothing wrong with him
Oh no I’ve been putting off buying him because I’ve been focused on buying other things for my collection
Honestly one of the best original Disney Star Wars characters

@@vegitoblack6321 Obviously. Starkiller was Palpatine level when using the force. I think Kal is probably Yoda level.
Solid video glad this was brought up, just played survivor this summer and by the end of that game cal is pretty damn op

I think Cal Kestis and Legends’ Luke were evidence that Jedi Order durning the prequel were largely wrong how they train their students. The Order were trying to making them into the prefect Jedi instead of the best the version of the Jedi they wanted to be.

About time there was some more lore about the famous CAL.!!!!
Cal uses Niman but his base is in Ataru, based on his agression and physicality. Same as Jaro Tapal
Cal echo in the force ability allows him to learn with ever single character he changes paths with, like when he just started to play the music Cere's composed from the thin air. Same with fighting forms and other abilities of others he crossed blades with, including the ninth sister (although she seems a bit of pathetic and arrogant), 2nd sister, Cere, Bode, Malicos, Merrin (a powerful nightsister force user), Gera and even from the brief time he faced Vader
So glad theory brought me back to brodie!!! Good star wars vibes!!!

Cal overall really uses Niman the most

Love you and theory. Great video. Keep it up
I feel like Cal is such a wild card of a Jedi.
Let’s give our appreciation to TSW for giving us depth & details on SrarWars characters on his daily Archives, make sure your subscribed guys ❤
Bro had a run in with Vader and ended up living. That should be all you need to know on how powerful he is.
Now all we need is part 3 of the jedi trilogy to see him at his peak, with hopefully a apprentice and cameo from Ezra
the apprentice would be his and merrin's adopted daughter, Kata, biological daughter of Bode.
The greatest boost to his power is the poncho, the poncho gives him an advantage that most force users don’t have in this era.
Cal soloing that imperial space station speaks a lot as well.
Really takes the fun out of everything these game developers. Jedi Knight Outcast & Academy remain KING.
EA has confirmed that a 3rd and final jedi game, it will be interesting to see the events after jedi survivor, and see him become even stronger than Cere Junda
Imagine a Star Wars game with both him and star killer as playable characters 🤔. It’ll never happen but it’s nice to dream😎
Cal was definitely one of the lucky padawan survivors cause most were either starved to death, gunned down, or abused into inquisitors.
