      Hello, That is a tough question to answer. It has been a while back since this video. I believe the white piece you are looking at is the switch itself. All four should look the same. Do not replace anything additional that what is described in the video. We hope this helps. Thank you for watching our video.

    So most likely I'm going to attempt this repair myself. But one question, you mentioned using dielectric grease on the seal itself. Do you coat both sides with it or just one side? And do you use a really thin layer or a bit thicker of a layer? I didn't really see anything on the seal so I'm assuming just enough to lube it up?

    I just found p0989 on my 3.6 lfx but have had no issues with shifting. Is this something that will cause issues if left alone till symptoms begin? Cleared codes and hasn't came back for a few days. Was the first time I noticed it. Car has 140k with regular trans fluid changes.

    • @TommyViper
      @TommyViper Год назад +1

      A little on the later side, but what kind of vehicle are we dealing with here? I have a 2014 Impala Limited with the LFX engine and 6T70 transmission with the same issue. I'd like to give it a shot in repairing it but I'm not confident enough in it yet. I'm just wondering if you're having actual issues with the tranny itself? I have issues when it needs to downshift out of 6th gear/overdrive. This is particularly noticeable when you're going up a hill in cruise and it needs to downshift to get more power, you'll feel a shutter or bucking unless you push on the accelerator for more power. But I also found a workaround for now that seems to work. Before I go up a hill, if I put it down into manual mode, it'll automatically place the vehicle in 4th gear which gets me up the hill with no issues or bucking sensations. I tried having it diagnosed but I think the shop was trying to CYA approach and wanted to recommend me replacing the transmission entirely. I don't believe I need a new transmission by any means and that I just need this fix mention in the video. But just curious what you're seeing on your vehicle if anything.

    • @MymaJyma
      @MymaJyma Год назад +1

      @@TommyViper I have a 2016 Impala Limited and experience the same thing. I thought it was spark related as it went away when I replaced the spark plugs and greased the coil boots properly, but has recently came back. It does exactly what you are describing. I just force the downshift with the throttle when I know I need it and it drives great.

    • @TommyViper
      @TommyViper Год назад

      @@MymaJyma Thanks for the reply! So at least we're both on the same page here. What I recently did as well is replaced the transmission fluid with AmsOil Signature Series Fuel Efficient ATF fluid. You only get about 55% of the old fluid out doing a drain and fill so I ended up doing one drain and fill, drove it for a couple hundred miles to mix the new fluid with the remaining older fluid, and then did another drain and fill to end up with around 80% new fluid. It's a bit pricier at about $57 a gallon for preferred customer, but holy cow does it shift smooth! Even with the TCM issue, the rest of the shifts are so buttery smooth that you almost don't even feel them 90% of the time. I've done drain and fills before with off the shelf fluids and not even that feels as smooth as replacing the fluid with AmsOil. I do have one other question. Do you ever feel a harder thump when going into 4th gear when the vehicle is cold and you're going slow? In my residential area, the speed limit is 25mph and I noticed that when I take off from the stop sign to get going, it seems to delay in 3rd gear just a bit and then you'll feel it sorta thump a bit into 4th. Nothing alarmingly hard, but just enough for you to notice it.

      @@TommyViper After doing more research, it looks like you have the Gen 1 6t70 and I have the Gen 2 6t70. The Gen 2 doesn't have the pressure switches in the TEHCM anymore, so the issue in this video is not what is causing my p0989.

    • @TommyViper
      @TommyViper Год назад

      @@MymaJyma Ah, darn it. Well, I hope whatever the issue is that it isn't too expensive for you. I ordered a rebuild kit for mine and I'm going to do something with it in the spring when the weather gets nicer. Although, I figured out my other issue just yesterday in fact! I learned a hard lesson, don't buy spark plugs on eBay, especially when the price is too good to be true. I purchased what I thought was ACDelco 41-109, the Iridium spark plugs. It was right as Covid was going around and I didn't want to have to take all the mandated precautions just to go into a store, so I figured I'd just order them online. Turns out, they were counterfeit. Less than 20,000 miles on them and they're trash. So, I bought new ones from Autozone which I knew would be genuine and installed them yesterday afternoon. I haven't done extensive testing because our roads are covered in snow and ice so I need to be careful, but I drove up a hill twice with cruise activated and never once did it shudder, it downshifted eventually on its own. I think what was happening was it was misfiring but not badly enough for the check engine light to be requested. I had it flash at me twice on two separate occasions but that was it. I was diagnosed as the torque converter and transmission weren't good and needed to be replaced. I would've been hot if I went ahead with the repair and I still had the same issue. So while I still think my seals should be replaced at some point, it doesn't seem to be the very annoying shudder issue. I thought all this time the TEHCM was at fault, but apparently not!

      @@livingdeadguy89 it's not a hard job but you do wanna take your time because the bolts that hold the transmission cover and the control module screws are different sizes so you have to label them as you take them out. After replacing the plastic diaphragms and rubber seals. Do you need to do a relearn? Or unhook battery for 30mins to reset?

    • @premierautomotivediagnosti9432
      @premierautomotivediagnosti9432  3 года назад +3

      I have found that a relearn is not absolutely necessary but if you have the proper scan tool, then yes, I would recommend a transmission relearn. If not, the transmission may seem to shift strange until it learns for itself. While the module is out, ohm each solenoid to verify none are out of specification. If any one of the solenoids are out of spec, the module must be replaced.
