    Awesome video as usual, you've helped me so much! If you ever need a suggestion for a reaction, would love to see you take a look at the band Karnivool, whose signer is Ian Kenny. Lots of great songs, and the band is often dubbed as "tool but australian," if that helps with the context of what genres they sit in. Anyway, from my limited understanding, Ian Kenny is really great at switching between the chest, mixed, and head voice. Would love to hear your take on this. Some great tracks to check out would be Goliath, New Day, COTE, or Roquefort. Thanks!

    This is very insightful 💙
    One question (sorry if I ramble on):
    I have a natural bass voice. Every now and again I like to mess around on ableton and sing songs while listening to my voice to measure the range of my voice. If C3 is middle C, then according to the tuner plugin on Ableton, my voice spans from D1 to F4 (G4 if I really force myself). Does this mean I have a 3 octave range or a 4 octave range?

  • @patrikghost

    I haven't sang much over the past two years or so and as a result, my voice has gotten weaker and I've lost a lot of control. I've been getting back into it these past few months and I've been doing good progress, I'm almost where I used to be in some areas. But high notes have been giving me trouble, no matter what I tried, they always came out sounding very thin and weak, or I ended up voluntarily breaking and going into a scream. This video came at a perfect time. Thank you, Chris! Also, would you happen to have tips for cases like mine, getting your voice back after a long break? Or maybe there's a video I missed?

      It would be the same as if you were lifting weights or any skill, it atrophies and skill decays over time. So you just go back into the skill and strength building activities as if it was your first time developing it. But strength and skills redevelop quicker and more easily after the first time

    This is super helpful Chris, but i still cant quite understand what Spencer Sotelo does when he sings the powerful high parts like in garden in the bones or satelites, is a high super powerfull voice with a bit of distortion but not the full screamo that he does. I heard is more about pushing the mix voice, nasalitie but there is something missing, my voice cracks a lot in those high notes and go into full distorted scream.

    • @chrisliepe
      @chrisliepe  7 месяцев назад +1

      You're right... It's definitely in MIX with just the right amount of compression... It's super honed and one of those sensations that will sound different with every vocalist... It's pretty amazing.

      @@chrisliepe Oh you actually answer, nice! I have been trying what you explaing in this video today and is such a subtle thing and what a game changer really, i used to think that if i apply those modulations to feel more comfortable in certain ranges singing with power, then i was gonna sound fake but it doesnt happen and it only get better with practice, thank you!
      Is kind of applying the cry technique but then placing the "sound" back... or wherever you want actually.
