Y'all need to interview some Deep South Asians like Georgia, Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi. We are a whole different breed and are generally more conservative.
I like the chilled authenticity of the east coast asians. I feel like the west coast asians I've seen on here can be kinda extra and a little bit cheesy. east vs. west is like slick asian swag v. corny asian swag
simplyshama Hey hey wait a minute! This West Coast Asian does not have "corny asian swag"! Don't judge us by what you see on You Tube. Come out to SoCal and find out for yourself! Btw...you're cute!
Nessa Love Sorry you had some bad experiences with some West Coast Asians but it could be the people in your bubble and the area you live in. There are crappy people in both coast; there's no escaping them!
simplyshama Hahaha...you'll see something you rarely see in London too...SUNSHINE! We're in a drought condition in California so you won't see much rain. I'm sure you won't miss the rain much! Other than that, come on over dude! Btw...good job saying SOCAL because no one says CALI.
NICKHAM16 Colorado,Wyoming so many god damn states in west with more snow than washington oregon and northern california combined just compared to 1 other state in the west
I guess West coast it's used to refer to California so people instantly think about warm weather, but they forget that Seattle it's also west coast and it's pretty cold up there sometimes.
I live in SF and the biggest mistake people make when coming here during summer is bringing summer clothes. It's cold here during summer... I feel like this video refers to more SoCal Asians, it's pretty different in NorCal...
I understand SF is different from the rest of the bay, I've lived in SJ while I was in college and a couple years after I've graduated, so I know what the weather is like. I'm just trying to point out that not all cities on the west coast are the same. If they're going to do a west coast vs east coast video, they should also have some west coaster's point of view too.
LuvableJack maybe he just means k-town is significantly bigger in LA than in flushing. If you get acclimated to the, let say,15 blocks of k-town in flushing, the 30 blocks in LA will seem a lot larger and more desirable. but yea i've basically lived in flushing for 3 years and the its pretty big compared the "k-towns" down in NC/GA where i live now.
VIPyellowwolfy21 Yeah I know hes talking about that one thats why I said guess he never been to flushing/NJ fort lee because everyone thinks theres only one ktown/chinatown in NYC
LuvableJack lol true true. i really tried to explore flushing but im just so scared of getting lost lol so not used to just having buses has the main mean of transportation >_< everytime i go to flushing i only stay on main st because i know i am safe lol
As a Cali girl living in Pennsylvania for grad school, I think it's refreshing how independent and down to earth people are in the East Coast. Not as many Asians, but I'm glad to have met new people and respect the more humble culture they have out here. Sure, shoveling snow is a nuisance, but it makes you tougher. As a side note, the most expensive purse I've seen carried in PA is a Coach and Vera Bradley. Girls in CA often have their insanely priced LV/Chanel. Will be moving bk to CA eventually and likely progressively become a "foodie" again, but I will always love the genuine vibe of East Coast!
that was a great description of the asian geographical breakdown. definitely agree with the whole comfortable vs. grit&grind difference. living in the east coast, i always hear friends talk about how the west coast has better parties and better food. but many of us also feel that east coast is the place we can become more successful in life.
im a west coast asian, but the east coast asians are for sure more "swaggy" as per what the girl said at 1:52. the east coast asians have actual weather so they can wear layers of clothes.
***** lol please tell me how we are able to dress more "swag" with 85-90 degree weather? we can't layer clothes for shit cuz its too hot. we can't even wear a coat without sweating.
Austin Do I'm an East Coast asian and I disagree lol. All the trends are set by ya'll first and then we pick up on it a few years later whether that be fashion, fads, or dance crazes. I follow the west coast dance scene, and everything that has happened there is what influenced the rest of us here and beyond.
Vattana Thach i agree with you for the most part, we do start more trends but it's all very basic? idk how to explain. i hope to move to the east coast one day, it fits my lifestyle more
Yeah I suppose, not that trends are important, I just wish there was more of that over here cause it definitely does not happen. Too many people here play it safe when it comes to living their life. It's too conventional for my taste but that makes myself and my friends stand out.
Dude, all the non-couture fashion/music trends are set in the west. Everything we wear dont hit the east until 2 years later. Anyway all this bullshiet talk bout Westcoast being "too hot"? This aint Florida where it's hot and humid 24/7. In Cali we've got ocean breezes that will cool you down real quick. Depending on where you are the weather changes due to the elevation (the Westcoat is topographically diverse). WE have micro climates. Also SF/Bay area/Seattle they wear hella layers cos it gets pretty cold out there. So what the fuck you talking about? Lol
Definitely true about East Coast, I was one of three asians in my school. My friends were white or black or spanish and I didnt really get any asian culture until i got home. But i think it's a good way to explore all the different cultures.
It be cool if you guys went to the West Coast and get their perspective on the East Coast, I think it would be interesting to see what both sides think about the other.
I grew up in California, all over, from Sacramento to OC. Now I reside in Philly, I miss Cali every damn day it's been almost half a decade since I've been out here. I hung out with more Hispanic and African Americans in California so the bubble thing I can't consider for myself. I miss the food, the vibe, the beaches, the people. I do appreciate some of what Philly has to offer like corner stores, cheese steaks, block parties, FDR park for that cambodian food, and girl, no. I LOVE TO SHOVEL SNOW. I'm really good at it too! I think I was the only person in Philly happy about all those snow days. Hahaha.
West coast asians are strictly confined to being surrounded by asians all the time whereas east coast asians are in a more diverse community which allows them to grow and learn about other cultures. IMHO.
MrViMichael True, most asians here ( in Belgium at least ) are 1) just visiting the country or 2) studying during a year or two and heading back to homeland. If I should tell what the percentage of asian people is in Brussels (capital of Belgium and Europe), it would be less then 3% (travellers included) . :/.
the asians are not accept in France, Before l lived in Paris (north), there, there are a lot of asian, arab, african ... It was better because in Paris some people are not french and we are not really "in our country" so we lived without racism (sometimes but just sometimes). Now i live in a city with a majority "white french people"( I have the french nationality but Im asian). here the people see me like a chinese immigrant so im not accept and that's hurt me because before I was proud to be an asian french and now Im not... (Sorry if my english is not very good)
About time you guys covered this. I have to agree with comfort/challenge assessment. Having grown up right across the Hudson River from Manhattan, you have to come up tough and ambitious if you want to make it. Having to deal with so many different people every day has served me well ever since I moved to work overseas.
Great Videos! Watching your asians here vs asians there videos opened my eyes on the different challenges other asians go through in different parts of the western world. I couldn't imagine Asian racism or finding community and culture growing up. I feel like I have taken my home, Oahu Hawaii, for granted.
Great video to learn more about US and what kind of life an Asian might like live. I'm about to be a FOB and kind confusing about which area to go with. This show is both fun and educational. Honestly
Clouds it kind of is if you like traditional style food like mama use to make definitely west coast Bay Area if you like 4 chicken wings and fried rice north east
I'm a Chinese person living in Florida and I have always felt like Florida shares more similarities with the west coast culture, although it is geographically located on the east coast. People are chill and laid back and on vacay mode all year round. Definitely looking forward to moving up north for college though :) I like a more ambitious and competitive lifestyle.
***** I live in/ near Orlando and I have traveled to plenty of Florida cities. The tourism and vacationer culture in Florida is very strong in my opinion, with all the beaches and amusement parks, etc, which is why I say it reminds me more of the West Coast, with Hollywood, beaches, night clubs and other entertainment attractions.
I had the privilege of living and growing up in both sides. I can say east coast are very more laid back and west coast is very driven. That's just from my perspective.
I agree with the guy that said the West Coast (LA) is just like a big suburban sprawl (Mall), everything is just spread out. You need a car to get around. Metro LA public transit just does not cut it. Just not dense enough like New York City, Hong Kong, Tokyo to feel urban enough. Living above street level has a real big city feel.
East Coast Asians aren't JUST urban like... there are plenty of suburbs around here (I am an East Coast Asian living in a suburb here). But even suburbs here aren't ALL Asian like ones in the West. Definitely more diverse here.
Lived on the west coast for 18 years and on the east coast for 7 years. They're certainly different, but hard to say one is strictly better than the other (except in terms of Asian food/drinks, west coast got that in spades).
I'm an asian from philly and moved to SoCal. I totally love the weather here period. :) I'm done with the snow and shoveling. I can always travel to big bear if I miss snow.
I grew up in Silicon Valley (northern CA), went to school/worked in LA (southern CA), and now am living in NYC. There's always 2 sides to every story/reality. But for me personally, what I like about East Coast/NYC is that it's challenging and it's a place where (because the Asian American identity isn't as dominate as it is on the West coast), I felt/continue to feel like I have the opportunity to change and mold it into my own versus falling into a pre-existing mass of "Asian American" culture (which is fine, it's safe and it's stable, but it's boring because over time I wanted to experience something new/different and in an environment where you do have to stand up for yourself). On the flip side, Asian food in NYC is nothing compared to West Coast.
East Coast for life! I haven't been to the West Coast so this is based off of what I've seen indirectly, but it definitely seems like East Coasters hustle harder and have a cooler vibe. Type of people you can just be like "Yo he's mad cool" versus West Coast that's a bit more... hokey? I'm In Jersey about an hour out of the City and Philly so I feel like I'm in the prime East Coast location!
I can definitely agree with you on that. Living in philly is pretty hard for an Asian. I went to school in philly as a kid and remembered how much I had to adapt because I was basically the only Asian in my class. Living in the city in general just exposes you to more sometimes unpleasant things. Idk, that's just my take on that.
Nessa Love Daaamn really? You know what, that kinda doesn't surprise me since everybody in LA is a wannabe somebody, you know what I mean? Like mad people out there are trying to make it in entertainment so I can see them being more shady and mean. When you get the chance come back home to the East Coast even just to visit! I'm sure all your people out here miss you! Gotta get that East Coast vibe to recharge you haha!
Nessa Love Hey Nessa, sorry for this ignorant man. He has a right to say what he wants, but I will say he is rather abrasive. All races have their good and bad points. So he is saying Asians are so much better than Hispanics/Whites? If it was a White (or Hispanic) person saying crude things about Asians, would he and maybe others speak up and say he/they are full of shit? Double standard. Again free speech for all, even for idiots.
well actually Ziggy I'm not saying the statistics for Hispanics for what is termed dysfunctional are innacurate. So I'm not saying your necessarily wrong. I did defend your free speech. Was simply noting how there is a double standard for some groups to say things against others is all. However again, will note your racist comments. As you just said Asians shouldn't marry Hispanics. That is not the same as making ethnic distinctions. So it is racist. But then its okay by me for people to say what they want. So if people want to be racist, fine but just remember what I said about how its cool for some groups to say racist things and not others is all. Thanks for the input.
BTW I happen to be half Asian...but its cool. So I get ya, Asians should never marry out of their race. If there is any group that probably should marry less out of their group its whites, since they may be a statistical minority in the world.
East Coast Asians have a little bit more grit 'cause of the more fast-paced and urban environment of cities like NYC, Philly, and Boston. Northeastern cities are also a bit more "angrier" compared to the chilled, laid-back vibe of West Coast Asians. We also have to put up with cold and rainy weather and more often than not, have to assimilate with other racial groups.
Great video, luv the Fung Bros! I'm half Asian, live on the West Coast and only visited East coast when I was younger. Have to say from not only what my friends say, but taken from this video, I sense that East Coast Asians are more "Americanized"- even though West Coast Asians may have been here longer. Of course many West Coast Asian Americans are Americanized too. But because here in the West, with such a large Asian community, we have those ethnic bubble enclaves. Actually there are many Asian immigrants on the East coast, esp NYC. But seems they have to assimilate faster because of more diverse interactions as stated by the commentators in the video. However, that being said, I heard lots of Asians now live in Brooklyn, Flushing, etc and that has changed those long standing neighborhoods somewhat, though to what extent I don't know. LOL, don't take this offensively people, but the East Coast Asian males seem more "cooler!" Because when they speak, they seem naturally "swag" where it doesn't seemed forced or contrived. They are naturally strong in their expression without seeming to try to be. So again the East coast environment makes people more strong, diverse and uh.,more Americanized. Its all good wherever you live though. Oh, also read more of the comments on this thread, and yeah see seems I'm not the only one that sensed the "contrived swag" of West Coast Asians. Its because of that bubble they live in, so they may not always get to be "real." Plz no offense here to the great Asians of the Westside!!!!
Lol its true about how east coast asians are more use to being OUTSIDE the asian bubble. Went out to LA with 2 asian friends to visit fam. They hated how closed minded asians there acted and how they only stick to asians. As in NYC we just love being different and embracing all types of ppl. You learn more and you get to see how different people can be.
Fungbros!! Do a video explaining California Asians vs. Northwest Asians. I think there's a difference. Y'all are from the Seattle area. I think it'd be great to know your take on the differences/similarities :) Go Dawgs!
You'd be suprised how many asians are in Georgia. I live in Gwinnett county and the county is actually 12% Asian. Gwinnett county has a population of around 900,000. my neighborhood is right next to a korean market called Assi.
SimplyYue Haha you do that, gurrl! Loved the vid about NY Subway riders.but i dont think most of it is specific to NY, i experience some of the same things when i ride the Red Line in LA or the BART/Muni in SF. :-)
For a Black dude that has been to every coast of the US, the Asians on East Coast seem to be more broke and you can actually find some of them in the hood. Southern Asians seem to have it easy and honestly they seem richer/wealthier than everyone else here.
Dude made a valid point mentioning how west coast Asian are typically 3rd, 4th gens while east coast Asians are usually 1st or 2nd gens. It's trippy as hell seeing a granny speaking perfect English as opposed to the granny's here on the east coast barely forming a word lol.
I feel like the education on the east coast is much more appealing since we have some of the best public education systems, highest average income areas, ivy leagues etc.
East coast Asian, here! There's more Asians out west, and I only had about 10 Asians in my graduating class of 450. More Asian food out west, I have to drive 2 hours to NYC Chinatown for more selections!!
I definitely agree that there is not a strong Asian American community on the east compared to the west. For example, If you're an asian American in high school, you always tend to be "that one Asian" in a group of white ppl etc etc.. But Im from New York and I truly love that I get to experience different ethnic cultures and meet a diverse group of people.
I was born in raised in CA before moving to NYC a few years ago. And all i have to say is West Coast Best Coast All Day! looking forward to moving back next year. better weather. better food. better looking people. better bang for the $. East coast was a good experience, but there's a lot lacking here. Plus, a lot of NYC people are natural assholes...but sometimes you have to be one to survive out here. If there's anything positive about the east coast, it made me stronger, and i dont take shit lightly anymore.
I live in SoCal and I am honestly getting tired of the car and suburban culture we have here. I want to live in a high rise and be able to take public transport anywhere I want. Having gone to Taiwan for the first time two years ago, it opened my eyes as to how urban lifestyles are like and I think it would suit me better.
I like this bit here, but is there any chance you can make one where you guys are in the west coast asking questions? Because I would definitely love to see conflicting perspectives here. Yet you guys did make a solid disclaimer at the end though, so your pick.
The reason the West coast is able to have a "bubble" is because of the suburban neighborhoods that are taken over by Asians. I mean we have SGV, where Asians are a majority. Garden Grove and Westminster which are nicknamed Little Saigon. San Francisco, which has one of the largest and oldest Chinatowns in the US, which when compared to the NY Chinatown, has more space and room to grow due to the nature of the area, compared to NY where they are packed in like sardines
Y'all need to interview some Deep South Asians like Georgia, Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi. We are a whole different breed and are generally more conservative.
Sadeth Cheng Dude, that's a good one! I want to see Asians with southern accents like the comedian Henry Cho.
Sadeth Cheng best comment by far
Sadeth Cheng and florida!
Sadeth Cheng and Louisiana, especially New Orleans~~Who Dat!!
Sadeth Cheng I agree! Even mid-West are totally different too. Looks like we live in such a melting pot as an Asian/Asian-American population!
Btw...you're cute!

simplyshama Hahaha...you'll see something you rarely see in London too...SUNSHINE! We're in a drought condition in California so you won't see much rain. I'm sure you won't miss the rain much! Other than that, come on over dude! Btw...good job saying SOCAL because no one says CALI.
West coast are a bit cheesy in their asian circle and east coast are a bit more thuggish because you circle is going to consist of mixtures
"West Coast Asians don't know how to shovel snow" I guess Washington, Oregon, and Northern California aren't on the west coast lol
Yup! We have snow in the mtns. Of SoCal as well. Shows you how ignorant of the West Coast some of them are.
People on the east that havent been to nor cal assume everything is like orange county or LA
***** People on the West that haven't been to Florida assume everything is like NY, Philly, Jersey and D.C.
NICKHAM16 Colorado,Wyoming so many god damn states in west with more snow than washington oregon and northern california combined just compared to 1 other state in the west

Patricia Peña Hdez. Yeah but whenever we have snow everyone freaks out for no reason so
Yeah, that's true, go tell people from Miami about how cold winters are on the east coast.
Stephanie Tso only FREEZING in SF, it's so much warmer in the East Bay/Oaktown and Southbay (Milpitas, Fremont, San Jose, Sunnyvale, etc.).

I love watch you guys videos while high AF!!!
Nice! Been waiting for this!
They're certainly different, but hard to say one is strictly better than the other (except in terms of Asian food/drinks, west coast got that in spades).
lolololol David's reaction at 1:38
You should film a video in Seattle or Oakland.
Yes you guys promised a Philly video u guys delivered you guys rock
I'm an asian from philly and moved to SoCal. I totally love the weather here period. :) I'm done with the snow and shoveling. I can always travel to big bear if I miss snow.
Snowboarding up in Big Bear or Mouuntain High ski resort is niiice! :)
Don't you miss Wawa tho? Lol
should have totally gone down to the DMV (DC area) of East coast!
The guy in the orange shirt and the hat exudes swag like none other
East Coast for life!
If there is any group that probably should marry less out of their group its whites, since they may be a statistical minority in the world.
sooo mad i missed yall! but that's awesome that yall were in Philly and I knew a handful of people in this video LOL
East Coast Asians have a little bit more grit 'cause of the more fast-paced and urban environment of cities like NYC, Philly, and Boston. Northeastern cities are also a bit more "angrier" compared to the chilled, laid-back vibe of West Coast Asians. We also have to put up with cold and rainy weather and more often than not, have to assimilate with other racial groups.
not enough nyc coverage! FungBrosComedy
4:06 homie wearing a scrub cap outside lmao
Yess!! Yess!!! Awesome Episode
The old man at 2:57 was like "You bring shame to your famiiry"
4:20 - 4:50. That guy was falling asleep and then waking up again haha :p.
Its because of that bubble they live in, so they may not always get to be "real." Plz no offense here to the great Asians of the Westside!!!!
am i the only nigga watching fungbros?
u are?
??
Cleder Silva nah nigga im here
No you're not the only 'black person' watching Fung Bros. I've been keeping up with them for a good while.
good for u :D
You Guys Are Awesome!!
I'm not even asian and i watch most of your videos
Omg y'all came to my hometown and wish I got to meet you guys. Hope you came back to Philadelphia and I love this video
I am Armenian and I live in Cali and I have to admit my neighborhood is mainly all Armenians and there are at least 20 Armenians in all my classes.
The song is thank you by busta rhymes btw
how many times did that guy say Tank tops!? haha west coast!
Ayyyy Philly! Represent 🙌🏻
lmaooo in my mind i thought everyone said jawn and bul XD
u guys r awesome! make more videos plzzzzz
Y'all should do Northern Asians vs Southern Asians! If you already haven't. Texan checking in here!
There are asians that are in colder climate in the west coast, not just the cali people. Oregon and Washington
Jawn ha? The dancer hahah
East coast youtuber! #representttt
You're probably the only Asian youtuber in NYC? :)
sayjai bao *sighhhhh lol It's okay! I'm gonna hold it down for the East Coast! :)
SimplyYue
Haha you do that, gurrl!
Come back to San Antonio Tx
And have a meet and greet
I didn't get to see yall last time
Dude made a valid point mentioning how west coast Asian are typically 3rd, 4th gens while east coast Asians are usually 1st or 2nd gens. It's trippy as hell seeing a granny speaking perfect English as opposed to the granny's here on the east coast barely forming a word lol.
I feel like the education on the east coast is much more appealing since we have some of the best public education systems, highest average income areas, ivy leagues etc.
They used my picture in 1:26, omg. 😱😂
One old saying would cap everything:
"If you can make it in New York, you can make it elsewhere."
Do a video on Asians living in the South lmao
East coast Asian, here! There's more Asians out west, and I only had about 10 Asians in my graduating class of 450. More Asian food out west, I have to drive 2 hours to NYC Chinatown for more selections!!
I definitely agree that there is not a strong Asian American community on the east compared to the west. For example, If you're an asian American in high school, you always tend to be "that one Asian" in a group of white ppl etc etc.. But Im from New York and I truly love that I get to experience different ethnic cultures and meet a diverse group of people.
I got family on both coasts (gives me a nice reason to travel).
East coast Asians got heart of ice. That's what we got. And all the jawns. Btw it's spelled boul not bul
West coast (washington) asian here and i def know how to shovel snow. tho it just rains a lot here and i cant handle weather above 60 degrees
You know when you're from California when you don't say Cali.
Philly represent!!!!!
Come to Tacoma and kick it fam.
east coast - artistic, hip-hop oriented, streetwear-esque
Wish I got to see you guys while you were in Philly! 😭😭
I love how the dude is talking up east coast fashion while wearing a California based brand
I'm an teenage Asian on the East Coast and I'd have to disagree with some of things people said but difference in age means we'd see different things.
I agree, it comes off as West Coast bashing right now.
Representing West Coast Asians XP KEEPIN IT REAL
can't believe y'all forgot gulf coast Houston!
Philly represent!! :-)
You guys should come through the DMV.
😭 I was always near... wish I could have ran into y'all in Philly and NY.
Grass always greener on the other side.
