UKTV network "launch" , Saturday 1 Nov 1997

I'm pretty sure this was the moment when UK Gold became UK Gold, except this time it was part of UKTV's suite of channels. It was goodbye to the dog, the strange flying things and the gold bars.... and hello to arrows and apples and that. It was the night of UK Gold's 5th anniversary... and I think it was also the night BBC1 and 2 adopted their new looks, meaning BBC TV and UKTV were in branding harmony. The branding police must have been beside themselves. Anyhoo, enjoy this look at how nothing has really changed (on Gold at least) in 27 years.

As someone who has uploaded the same junction, albeit without the full promo I can confirm this was when the change did occur and UK Gold became BBC-ised. Good to see the switch at 6:00pm didn’t effect just my recording, one would guess this was the time the transmission switched over to the BBC rather than where it was being transmitted from previously. Thanks for uploading as I’ve long since disregarded the full recording of the preview.

UKTV was a million times better then, than what it has become now. UK Gold has become the Only Fools and Horses channel in 2024 with GOLD now always airing back to back episodes every Sat and Sun for 12 hours a day.
