Satch Boogie is absolutely a kick ass tune by a true master player. One of the things I love about it is it reminds me of Pat Travers Boom Boom out go the Lights and Snortin Whiskey. It is played in the same super heavy boogie blues type style with lots if fire and energy in the lead solos that you can just sink your teeth into and crank up to 10. Love it, great job Joe.
I just love how satriani modulates directly a bunch of times and switching modes without it sounding jarring, but in fact completely logical/natural. I guess he does this by using the stong modal melodies/sweet notes/chord notes as a pivot in combination with the driving rythm. Pure genius. Excellent tutorial!
@@gm3043 So he did (literally the only mistake of his entire recorded catalog), and therefore that apparently has to overpower everything now when we think about or listen to Joe Satriani. This world has become addicted to negativity for the sake of being negative. Insane
Hey Justin, You just blew me away. Forgive me for saying so but I didn't think you could play something a complex and intricate as this. I'm thoroughly impressed. Wow!
Thank you so much for this Justin! I’ve been playing for 30 years, and though I always loved this song I never bothered to learn this intro/riff for some reason (forget the body of the tune…still way beyond my skill set!). Your lesson was perfect, and I can now play the intro to one of the coolest guitar instrumentals ever written. 😍
Wow! Simply wow! I don't think most guitarists realize that trying to play another's composition [licks and riffs esp.] is more difficult than if it's your own compositon!
sounds like all of the sentiments agree, there are some artists and songs that when earnestly woodshedded, really can make someone a better player. This is an iconic project song. I'm glad I followed youtube's recommendation just now, this made me smile.
I will definitely be revisiting this one a few times. And definitely interested in the more Satch. He takes you to a different mind space in music, breaking off the constants everywhere, but consistently welding it all together.
Justin I love your lessons, been following you for years, taking on Satch, awesome, I'm a bass player, Strummer but my you almost give me hope to play a Satch lead.
Glad you enjoyed it. There are 600+ song lessons here: www.justinguitar.com/songs Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher
I love how I’ve been watching @JustinGuitar give lessons on some fun songs to learn, that everyone knows, and are great for singalongs at parties. Then out of nowhere, dude pulls out this stuff and blows my mind. Smh. No question I can’t learn this. But we’ll played, Mate!!! -D. 😎
Oh sure I'll jump right in. That was pretty damn awesome and accurate. I thought the same thing "Oh man, why have a I never learned to play that before?" Only I came to a different conclusion, several in fact. My lack of skill level, dedication, practice habits, lack of focus, my superb procrastination skills....oh well, back to "Country Roads".
Man over the yrs I've watched you your equipment and playing has really improved to a high level. I'm in Canada and gave been learning from you for many yrs thanks.
I hate you hate you hate you LOVE YOU LOVE YOU hate you LOVE YOU. This is THE song that I now NEED to learn now - to impress ALL my Satriani loving buds. "You learned to play THAT?!?" "Yes - my friend Justin gave me that KICK in the ass that I needed." Cheers, Mate, From Canada.
There is a video of Joe actually teaching this song. He says the secret to it to sound right is emphasis and articulation of the phrases. Not putting this video down by any means but when people play the song it's get to start to finish as fast as you can. It's not easy getting the way Joe says to play to come out of your hands. Having an Ibanez is also important with a floyd rose.
Thank you for such an amazing break down of this difficult song. I have been playing for nearly 50 years and have always struggled with this song. You are an amazing teacher and what you have , many others don't , ant that is you are not trying to impress learners with your technique - your human and fluff the odd note. Great stuff, consider me a subscriber. Hoards of Locusts next ?
Justin you legend, this is one of my favourite guitar pieces, well done, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole personally, I'd break a finger...probably a leg too somehow.
Killer tune, Justin!!! I've met Joe at a NAMM show in Anaheim, Cali. At that time, I was wearing a Jetson sweatshirt (had George and Astro on it) and he wanted it badly, but I wouldn't budge. Should have traded it for some guitar lessons/guitar from Joe, who is a virtuoso...lets face it, he taught Steve Vai another virtuoso. Thanks Justin!!!
Not bad Justin!! You didn't bite off more bro! This was a good lesson! Your approach is very easy to grasp, and relate to!! I love that you promote jamming on it and be creative! Well done! 🤘🤘
Hey Justin, thanks for sharing this video. Joe Satriani is a inspiration for me for such a long time and I definitely will give this one a try :) Greetz from Berlin!

It's so handy that this was uploaded in 2160p. I can zoom right in and see exactly where your fingers are.
Very helpful tutorial. Thanks Justin!
You are a big reason why I feel comfortable trying a more difficult song like this, thanks for all you do for the community!
My pleasure! Cheers :)

Satch Boogie is surprisingly easy for intermediate players. It is one of Joe Satriani's easier songs. Summer Song though? That's a different ballgame.

never have i seen justin so wild and let loose like this and i loved every second of it, a masterpiece
Justin: wipes off sweaty palms and stretches out fingers before starting to play
Me: oh no
Just learning satch's songs like this improved my general ability to play so much. This is such a kickass song
Every few years I try and tackle this, it’s really hard to get clean and sound nice. You did a great job teaching it!

OMG !!! I so needed you to do this. My favourite Satriani number - but I just had no idea how to approach it.... Now? Practice time :) Thanks so much.
Justin, you are The Man. Nailed it.

Spectacular-one hell of a song-expertly played.

Waiting for Justin to make lessons on dream theater and John Petrucci
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 🤩

Dang Justin! 🔥🎸👍👍 intense ! Nice performance! Not sure if I’m ready for this! Never thought I would see a lesson for this song by Joe S !
Great video mate really enjoyed learning this one from you
Damn it! You rocked that! Great job.
The people who don't think Satriani is a beast of a player typically haven't tried learning his songs.
