- The Artist Relations Room at the Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA was set ablaze when Joe Satriani visited and cranked out a few songs. Fingers cooled, he sat down with Nic Harcourt for an incredibly intimate interview.

I like the part with the guitar
thomas harris and the bald guy
thomas harris Now that made me laugh out loud! :)
unfortunately ... 'yes',,, coz it is... a guitar solo/// :p
hey! that's my favorite part too!
LMAO
Joe is one of the few fast players that I still find very musical and usually really enjoy listening to.
Jason Longo vai?

@@SZebS He said one of the few, not the only one
Do you have time to talk about our lord and savior Buckethead?
@@SuperHansburger93 buckethead is cool but compared to the rest of the greats he's eh. he isnt bad but never had near the inluence the others had
Just started learning to play this. I'll get back to you when I've mastered it.
So, never.
How's it going?
+Non-disjunction Got sidetracked with "Always with me Always with you," which I can play about 60% of the way through.
Don't be discouraged. Just takes practice, like anything else. It sounds more difficult than it really is. It took me the better part of an evening to learn it and about 3 or 4 days to get it down where I was happy with it and the rest of week to burn it in my mind and fingers till it was easy. And that was all by ear when I was in 9th grade so 14 or so. I'm 30 now and have been teaching professionally since I was in middleschool. The trick is to have your technique higher than whatever tunes or pieces you want to learn. I mean you still obviously want to challenge yourself but within your reach. If you can't play So What at 70bpm you're certainly not going to be able to play Cherokee at 320bpm. Another piece of advice when you get a tune up to tempo don't stop there, keep going cause you don't want it to be a challenge to get through it, you want it to be effortless. I suggest practicing classical etudes for piano and or flute to get your technique together so it just won't be an issue anymore as well as a really good eartraining routine and after that learning any piece of music will be a walk in the park my friend. Cheers and good luck!
How about now? Made any progress?
Why don t you try to make you own songs?
The best bit is when he plays the guitar
I like when he talks about playing the guitar
+Tom'sFruitStand I like it when he talks about liking talking about playing the guitar
The best bit was when he stopped playing-music isn't a race
Hey.. there can be competetion, and racing while still making nice art, with emotions.
- I am a very competetive person, so honestly, i would probably dig in more effort if it was a race, than i would if it wasint.. And that's just personality, which is okay.

Joe: "Well, i wrote that Song while i was heavily medicated"
Me: where can I get that Meds?
Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and some of his former students have achieved fame such as Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt,
Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan and Alex Skolnick. Satriani has been a driving force in music credited to other
musicians throughout his career, as a founder of the G3 tour, as well as performing in various positions with other musicians.
That squeal before the main tapping solo is so perfectly in key!
That squeals are all so perfect
my guitar gently weeps after hearing this
INSANE. Better than the original recording. Better riffs, note choice. Insane....
He's no longer heavily medicated and in a neck brace. That might be why. xd
I agree
Great performance, great song! Interesting- this is a full step lower than on the album.
yea ok but can he play it and 100% on Rocksmith?
I don't think so
Uh guys look it up he used rockman on surfing
I'm a looong way away from that honor haha.
Joe can play anything on anything believe!!

Flashback to Joe Satriani's massive performance of Satch Boogie taped at Guitar Center Hollywood in 2012.
Badass jam. Good ol Satch really has the moves, eh?
Killer
Satch always had my ear and always will.
Chris H I guess you could say its Always With Me, Always With You
Chris H May I join the club?
This guy is an absolute beast of a guitarist!
What about no?
***** what about, yes?
strikeout1991 what about going out an listen to the bird's melodies that is better music than this?

Allright, whatever you say amigo.

out of all the guitar virtuosos statriani is my favorite. his songs are well written and they don't just sound like some guy trying to show off by playing a million notes a second
love him with Chickenfoot.
cough, him and Eric Johnson
cwjalexx could not disagree more, exactly what it sounds like. While it's well written and takes a lot of guitar based gimmicks and uses them to their potential it's kind of boring, check out tosin abasi.
Tosin is one of the biggest guitar gimmick user ever
more than 6 strings and it is no longer a guitar.
Had this song reccomended for my skill level on Rocksmith 2014.
Think I'm cool.
Try it on easy.
Fail miserably.
Cry.
Burn guitar.
Mike Scanlan I`ve played like every fucking song in that game and learned them pretty easy... but when I started to play "Satch Boogie" .....
Well xD - This Song is fucking hardcore ! I`m at 68,04 % currently! still trying! But my fingers hurt so bad !
Stonedneko Do you know you can download CDLCs for free? As long as the song currently is not a DLC available to buy you can download it into the game and play it. Since you said you've done all the songs, you should look into it. :D
This song IS easy to play irl. Idk what you're talking about
MeGustaIsHappy lets see your video showing how easy it is
+MeGustaIsHappy for real man xD I fucking hate ppl like you
Why could there be people disliking this vid? He's one of the most humble guitar virtuosos out and he's got pure talent. Lol for them just practice million more times.
Nayib Cabanlig III those people were bassist.
They're the jealous ones, who know they can never be so good. :p
1:55 is the best nuance of this rendition.

Ahhhhh. Shit. 15 times the bridesmaid, never the bride 🤣
Bro copy and pasted
Thanks for the info
Joe's secret power is the hairs on his arms takes in energies from the earths electromagnetic field. And allows him to play beyond mere mortals.
Love ya satch!
Sounds Legit to me mate
I will never forget…this was the first Satch song I ever heard, back in 1987…15 year old me, and I was an instant fan!!!
"I wrote that song when I was heavily medicated, so that's my main excuse". Awesome comment. Stay awesome Satch.
He is a fucking da Vinci of sonic electronics.
Very articulate, too, in describing his art.
I’ve seen him live twice, incredible
Happy 60th, Joe! Awesome musician, huge inspiration for many of us! Long live!
That tapping sequence always gets me
I would like to turn my guitar into a lamp now.....
i know who you can send it to.... he made the one beside my bed, plus a few thousand more
Mine makes a rather spiffy hat stand.
He made that look so easy and effortless
Speechless.... utterly speechless..... I have to remind myself to breathe when I hear Joe play! Wow!
Had the pleasure of meeting Joe a few years ago. Nicest damn guy on the planet. Has a very real musical brain, as well. Basically the guy really is a maestro of his instrument, & pretty humble about it, too.
Probably the best version of this song I have heard! Joe hits every note perfectly.
I love this, it's not just loads of stupid shredding but there is some actual structure and substance to what he is playing
I listen to this song at least once a week.
always picks me up.
Good guitar player.
Joe never ceases to amaze me.
I still say he made this song, so the world would go "Eddie Van Who?" lol SATCH RULES!
It does have a brown sound flair to it.
When I listen to this as well as the studio version, I keep thinking this sounds like Eddie Van Halen playing. Anyone else get that feeling?
Eddie was a master of the hyper boogie too!
Yes but EVH much more fluid at tapping because he invented it
Yes for sure he was heavily influenced by Eddie he states that in many interviews but yes you can hear Eddie
@@teddmented evh didn’t invent tapping. He heavily popularized it yes.
Awesome video and thanks for sharing 👍💚
Thanks for this song.
Great performance!
sounds even sicker (if thats a word) half a step down like in this video.
'more sick' but yeah
Best rock and roll guitar song ever!
Thanks Joe for your Inspiration
35 people hate themselves for not practicing as much.
54 people agree with you
Joe has half a dozen older siblings who are all doctors and lawyers and probably wish they had picked a different path, if they were being honest about it.
James Guvercin MAKE THAT 84.
Now are 66
now are101
and my ego of my guitar skills take a critical blow
seriously huh
brings back good memories! thank you Joe!!😊
This is easily my favourite satch boogie performance!
1:10 a beautiful lick
I just spent the last 2½ hours learning to play the first 12 seconds of this damn song (which is about 95-100 notes!). I'm nowhere NEAR up to speed, baby crawling my way through it. Took a break to watch this video... which was a mistake because now I realize just how badly I suck. He's absolutely *FLYING* through those notes, man. It's in-freakin-credible. And I now have a newfound respect for anyone that can play this song even close to full speed.
Keep at it, you'll get it. Just need to practice.
Corruption by Dezign
Lots and lots.... and several more lots.
quazzie1 so, did you eventually learn it to speed?
its a hard ass song, I know all the notes and can almost play it up to speed
The freedom with which he plays with here is something I’ve only approached when I am dreaming, and man was it glorious.
So effortlessly, so Satriani!!
First time i heard this tune on the radio it was 1986 or so in my 71 skylark i was 16 and just put in a new stereo with gensen triaxial speakers and this song came on and i had to pull over and i remember cranking it and thinking I wish i had that guys tone man! Once i found out who it was i became hooked on his stuff. I still like shredding to flying in a blue dream too. So much fun thanks Joe.
*Dramatically chucks guitar into bombfire and looks into his distant vision of his pet unicorns and feeding turtle fish*
bonfire*
MikeHunt185 bombfire sounds WAY better.
the moment you want to play Satch Boggie but have Les Paul in your hand................
+Guitar lessons & Cover I play it on my Les Paul, you dont have to do the whammy bar parts, everything else is possible.
+Guitar lessons & Cover it's just about possible haha
+Juan Navarro but les ,paul doesn't has 24 frets TT_TT
+aleaallee so yeah, that must be stopping you from learning to play the other 99% of the song, like if you couldn't octave down those parts
SIMPLY AMAZING JOE...
Makes me want to throw my Guitar into the fireplace for kindling... Joe is so amazing. Seriously though, it is amazing to both watch and listen to a master at his craft. Phenominal stuff right there.
this sounds like someone gave Van Halen a jam track
yes :)
Hmmm.... I have no love for Eddie, but must admit there is truth to that statement.
jeligula BOG OFF eddie van halen is epic
thewizepizza Eddie was good..
It’s a shame Eddie sucks in comparison to Joe
im so high right now
My guitar idol. Have always loved his style.
This is the song I first heard of his. I loved the groove the full song. Just efn fun .
Hell yeah, Joe is the shit
This sound like the music that would play in the background on them DBZ Budokai games
I love Joe!! XD he is the reason why I started to play the guitar. ROCK ON GUYS!
i noticed his wailing and squealing are all perfect! AWESOME!
He's not human. It's the only explanation. Amaze-balls.
Why is he wearing fur sleeves on his arms?
Your comment confused me for a minute. I thought like "what the fuck does he mean?" :D
***** Yes, for a guy whose bald, hair is not an issue for him everywhere else.
+Täking Thë High Roäd that's not fur, that's actually his hair. He ripped it all off his head so he can make a coat out of it. #savage
+Linh Nguyen (KaWylde Guitarist) To keep him company on those lonely, cold winter nights.
+Charlie Foxtrot The 3rd :(
dear joe, you have such a following to this day!
Wow. That was fantastic guitar playing. I like the tune and how he described it.
tasty thick warm tone :D
definitely
A friend of mine said that she saw him live and he spent like 20 minutes before the show nit-picking the tone. He is obsessed with it! Which makes it perfect for the listener! :)
Blackjack49 man listen to his tone on the surfing album it is insane!
sounding a bit like Hot for teacher
Joe is the best there is amen
Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert have long been my guitar heros since i was young! Oh and Angus Young was also my hero! I LOVE music, and i love my fellow musicians in this world, and i am SO GLAD that words can not express it enough how glad i am that i also am a part of that chapter on earth. I may not be a celebrity or world famous musician, but i am still a musician, always been!
Wonderful...makes it look so easy.
So wizards are real.
Ryan LeRoux he is not a wizard he is a god
There is a reason why Vai is good... its because of him :P
+Tim Lovell no... It's because Vai dropped out school and practiced 10 hours a day ;) Yeah Joe helped him but It's not that much about the teacher, It's more about your talent and work :)
+Tim Lovell Zappa
this is one of my favorite songs ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to listen the hell out of that album "Surfing with the Alien" when I was in college in the 80's . Saw him 3 times, an amazing guitarist and great personality.
I don't think my Tele can play that...
Your Telecaster can, but you can't. Hey don't sweat it. Neither can I.
jeligula I can a little bit. :P
Jack Turner is your tele a bald guy?
+Jack Turner the solo is all tapping which i love about this song which makes it 100% easier
True

Absolutely beautiful
love the close ups
IN E FLAT
Cool, but can he play Smoke on the Water?
He played with Purple. :))) Before Lord said: No I want Morse.
I'm very proud I met Joe when he came to Melbourne about 10 years ago
One of my all time favorites. His number one track in my book.
+Brad Larson He's good but not that original, "Satch" boogie has Eddie van halen written all over it!
joe I would like too teach you some stuff..
I'm sure you could teach him something, just not anything about music.
Remind me again... which Van Halen album is this from? ;)
+John Davis Totally, but with a tweak towards evolution, I'm sure Eddie loves it.
TheRealHucasys Hey, what's not to love, right? Thanks for playing along!
+John Davis The Best of Cream
Dejoblue "“I like it … it's got a good beat and you can dance to it!" ;)
***** Is that a "short joke"? A "hair joke"? A "short-hair joke"? Or "no joke"? ;)
Just amazing!
That was amazing
This is way past the original, in terms of wicked shred and vibe. And the original was insane. This cat is way too good, I think he is channeling Hendrix. ;)
1/2 step down?
yes
Amazing Video
Joe is just amazing!!!
He is awesome
By the way am i the only one who thinks joe look exactly like the hitman guy on the the game
Hitman Absolution?
1:30 Did Kirk teach him that lick? ;)
HE taught Kirk! And Steve Vai 🎸🤟🏻 I still remember the first time I heard Surfing With The 👽
Virtuoso, and is humble too.
saw joe at tampa theatre...1999...he played 3 hours to a sparse crowd and played this as an encore...I felt so bad for him , because it was such a long concert and there were so few people left...yet he played like a champ
AMAZING JOE
Is this me or does this really sound like Eddie? Certainly more funkier than Eddie perhaps but the feel, overall sound Joe's got on this one is very very VH.
+Al Scott Of course, Eddie is a total hero, music is constant evolution, no one comes from nothing, where would Eddie be without Chuck Berry?
Ten year old kids can do evh s guitar work on you tube satch is the master😁
@@ko2sharp297 but not as well.
Dude has some hairy arms - LOL
that just blew my mind..
just amazing

this sounds way too much like van halen. :/
