Thanks Joe, made me pick up my guitar after some long needed inspiration. I'm getting it pretty quick now, the more I practice it the better I get at it. Speed will come later. Awesome lesson. I'm mostly a rhythm player and love your rhythm variations. Thanks again.
love it when he's playing the rhythm section and he's like "OH YEAH!!" what a legend! just goes to show that even a virtuoso like himself still has fun rocking out to some heavy blues riffs!
He makes it look soooo easy but it's not. Many people play this in the wrong fucking rhythm of 16th. This is 16th shuffle, you have to make it bounce like shuffle.
I take from this, inspiration and encouragement to find my own sound that vibrates with my soul. Love it, learn from it, maybe now your fingers can do it? If not we should keep practicing? Yes? Yes! Yea, let's do that..
Every guitarist SHOULD be able to take their signature riffs and fuck with them in any manner they please, science of scales joe has probably learned a shitton of scales, allowing him to know what notes are hittable after others, just cuz he chose certain notes for the recording doesnt mean he didnt have 70 different versions ready in case the current one didnt satisfy at the time. It just means hes reached a very necessary level thats needed to write songs
Here in 2020, if I just decided to learn Satch Boogie, I can take 10 seconds to type words into a search engine. There's Joe Satriani to teach me his song. Kind of amazing right
I met Joe once and the guy is just like a fellow musician that you would start talking with like you knew one another for years his manger had too break us up lol we were like having a really good conversation almost forgot to get an autograph lol my Son reminded me I had joe write me an excuse for work on one of his placards i.e.bill he laugh said he never heard that ever a really great guy.very cool dude.
i remember when this song's tabs were in guitar for practicing musician and they were so wrong ( i think Andy Aledort transcribed it but he was a hendrix guy) . i couldn't figure out why it didn't sound like the album after practicing it for hours. then i saw joe play it and learned it correctly. eventually got the surfing songbook which had accurate tabs
You’re right man. When it came to Hendrix Aledort was your man. I bought the Hendrix Signature Licks tab book with the CD and he taught me many Jimi songs the right way but he didn’t do Dimebag justice. His transcription of Cemetery Gates was completely off he hits a completely wrong chord In the main turnaround every time
For all you that claim he looks like Voldemort.. Nah.. Voldemort looks like Joe.. cause face it.. Joe had the look LONG before Harry Potter came out.. ;-) with that said.. totally LOVE this song and just found it incredible that he took the time to show it..
He looks like the father of that kid in The Matrix talking to a student... “Do not try and bend the string, that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth...” -What truth? “There is no string...” -There is no string? “Then you'll see that it is not the string that bends, it is only yourself.”
satriani is for ever I love his music, a style after van halen has been created and it remains and will remain forever, while many have no identity he and steve vai will remain forever, but joe satriani in particular for me will always remain number 1 after hendrix page and van halen
WOW...slowed down riff @ 1:27 is ripped from Brian Setzer Stray Cat Strut!! I guess Satch listened to many influences...not a negative, just an observation...
@Kazahmish Yeah totally agree. Voldemort got the idea of the look from Joe but badly copied so he looked kinda ugly as you can see from the movie. A bad clone. Joe is the original. Stop saying he is Voldemort you children who love stupid kid's movie!

I love his face at 1:42, he's like "seriously, you're making me demonstrate this simple shit?"
love it when he's playing the rhythm section and he's like "OH YEAH!!" what a legend! just goes to show that even a virtuoso like himself still has fun rocking out to some heavy blues riffs!
his fingers look like spiders about to eat my soul in a pleasurable way
Takeaway from this video: Every tab available online for this song is wrong in multiple places.
Mr. Satriani himself teaching one of his most iconic amazing songs man.. what class is that! Awesome mr Satriani you have all my respect 😎
Watch Robby Krieger teach '' roadhouse blues''. You might enjoy it as well.

Has Joe played SB a bunch of different ways or is it just me? lol ,, its amazing how he always ends up with the same amazing result..
may everyone play like him ??

One of the most technical and hard to cover song!!! Satch is a genius!
Mwa mwa, if kids can do it 🤣 ruclips.net/video/ryJr2-xENvA/видео.html
I'd wish he taught how to make those "squirrel crying sounds" with the whammy bar
that tone!!!!!!!
i cant stop playing this!!
I would like the satch boogie version with hair please
Love the pretty subtle non-pick flicking of the strings around 1:10 into the video...
best solo in guitar history
God! Not easy! I can follow the opening riffs somewhat but damn!
Muitíssimo obrigado pela força 😎🎸
He's just too good.
Fantastic
Been playing it on Rocksmith. Very difficult but fun.
3:00 - Tapping Fast
3:44 - Tapping Slow
THANK YOU!!!
japonaliya Satch is a massive fan of bebop music, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's into Setzer.
Hi man, I am assuming this was recording for some guitar magazine. Do you know which one and which issue? Thank you!
Lord Voldemort
lol!!
What is he doing at the end to get that harmonic? Is he hitting the string beyond the fretboard or something?
He's doing a pinch harmonic while holding down the whammy. When he lifts the bar that will be the effect!
Jon .W Thanks :)
Awesome!!
the best
Joe Satriani GOD!!!!!!!
Thank you!!

Hi Joe!
you mean "hey joe"?
Ya beat me to it...
I mean, by 4 years, but... regardless XD
Anybody have any idea where the tab for this is? It bears little resemblance to the "Play it like it is" anthology I've got...
Hi Mikey , I've got what you need enjoy !

Are there a lot of subtle harmonics being played?
Absolutely! Joe pinches the pick and attacks the strings hard - it makes a huge difference to the overall sound!
muito bom
5 min lesson? For this blues based song?
WOW...slowed down riff @ 1:27 is ripped from Brian Setzer Stray Cat Strut!! I guess Satch listened to many influences...not a negative, just an observation...
Can anyone tell me the name of the very last chord? Just can't seem to figure it out :/
It's an A major 6th add 9, or something very much along those lines.
Got Damn that shit is retarded good Brother 😎👍🔥

Probably diminished.
I didnt know that Voldemort played the guitar.
@Kazahmish Yeah totally agree. Voldemort got the idea of the look from Joe but badly copied so he looked kinda ugly as you can see from the movie. A bad clone. Joe is the original. Stop saying he is Voldemort you children who love stupid kid's movie!
It seems Joe needs a couple of lessons himself, what a clown this dude is.
Ha ha.
Bad... No heart, just notes, sound bad... Dreadful! Easy in fact. Jimi Hendrix save him!!!!
hahah, good one
Yepp, it is very easy to play. You sure will upload a video to demonstrate it. And btw: This is a lecture not a performance.
Pathetic troll comment. Parents who never loved him, save him!!
6 years later. Still waiting for you to upload that video of you playing this.
