  • The Sacramento Kings made a splash this off season by signing Sasha Vezenkov, reigning MVP of the Euroleague, to a contract. Coming off a solid 48 win season, does he put them over the top in the cut throat Western Conference?? Coach Nick breaks down his game and how he can fit with Mike Brown's Princeton Offense based attack.

    It feels like most NBA analysts are criticizing the Kings off-season and sleeping on this pickup. Vezenkov has good size and a lightening quick release. He's going to feast off of Sabonis DHOs and cuts to the basket. Glad the Kings maintained flexibility for the future by not overpaying guys like Jerami Grant and Kuzma and added some potentially nice pieces with Vezenkov and Duarte on team-friendly deals.

      If you realized both Grant and Kuzma are RFAs, there was no way for the Kings to nab them at the price their respective teams wanted them back for. So yes the Kings were operating in a reality that they already worked to get their core pieces already around Fox (Domas the play making big, Huerter the moving shooter) and vets and young guys (Barnes, Monk, Keegan Murray, Vezenkov) to see if they are part of this playoff future.

    I think, what makes Vezenkov unique is his extremely quick release and movement without the ball. He took plenty of uncontested 3Ps which is a very rare thing in Europe. With the wider court in the NBA, teams would have a nightmare with the way Fox and Big Dom spread defences. And if Sasha manages to get close to 40-41% from downtown, I believe, he can become a key player and a candidate for best 6th player in the League.

    To me, it seems like going after MVP-level players in other leagues should be way more common. Yeah, it’s a worse league, but compared to some of the veteran players, lottery pick busts, one-dimensional role players etc… that keep getting deals, kinda seems like a no-brainer.
    But it could still easily be true that the gap between the leagues is actually that large

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W Год назад +8

      Thing is sometimes the context of an MVP level player in a lesser league may not exactly translate well in the NBA. Luka was the absolute exception in terms of his youth and individual talent as the MVP in 17-18 and heading into the NBA draft. Jan Vesely was the MVP in 18-19 and he's a former NBA top pick. Vasilie Micic who was MVP in 20-21 just signed with the Thunder this year. And Nikola Mirotic (sounds familiar?) was the MVP in 21-22.

      So he doesn't get a lot of assists - and he's fine at it - every once in a while he can uncork some good vision but nothing crazy

    Those on-court billboard screens is both distracting and ugly AF. I hope the NBA never does that.

      Makes sense. Vezenkov style is just the result of a quick release effort on his side

    I remember when Raptors signed Anthony Parker, 2 time Euroleague MVP. He was good but didn't exactly change Raptors fortunes that much. I would say equating him to a serviceable NBA starter on some teams would be all.
