Those things are made for - the majority of average sized people - to fit as many people in a plane as possible otherwise it would be much more expensive
So after my first 6 flights within 1 month I can say that it's not only difficult for plus size people. It's also hard to be comfortable in planes for people taller than the average because they don't have enough space for their legs and even for average size people those seats get uncomfortable when you fly long distance fights like 10-12 h long flights especially when you have the middle seat. What helps is having friends left and right that don't mind you leaning on them or putting the armrest up and the seat as far back as possible and lean on the armrest with some pillow

in 2014 I flew from Algiers to Lisbon and a woman in that condition occupied her and my seat. It was - without exageration - impossible to fit me in my own seat and I had to travel with the attendants in the kitchen on the "backwards seat" because the flight was fully booked. That is unfair!! I also paid my ticket.

Alright, I’ve got some thoughts here. 1. Based on the seating configuration, you’re on a “wide-body jet”, since we’re talking about wide bodies. That kind of airplane is designed to carry 200-300 people from point A to point B. So if that’s still not big enough for you, I don’t know what is. 2. You’re carrying around an oxygen tank with you, so that already means your health ain’t that great to begin with, and you’re either making it worse by being fat, or it’s because you’re fat. 3. You’re so damn lucky that you’re flying on a plane that can support your weight. Had this been a smaller plane, like a Dash-800 for example, you’d be putting the safe operation of that aircraft in serious jeopardy. I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but commercial airlines are designed for one thing, and one thing only. The transportation of a large group of people and cargo. As someone who used to be obese. There was -100% benefit for me staying fat. I don’t miss a single thing about it, period. All these body positive people if they were given the opportunity to be average size for a day I doubt they would chose to stay obese.
