I really appreciate this video. I ended up with only half a seat on a 1.5 hours flight and the other passengers elbow in front of my belly button. Unfortunately, it was a full flight. The other passenger apologized and was just as uncomfortable as I was. I appreciate the fact that you are thinking of others.
I'm going to be flying this summer for the first time and I am so terrified of being a bother to other people more than I am of being uncomfortable myself, so finding out that this option exists was such a relief, but it was still nerve-wracking trying to figure out how this policy works, so thank you so much for going into such depth about it and helping me understand in such a straightforward way! And before anyone even mentions it, yes, I know that the best option is losing the weight to not bother anyone and to be able to fly comfortably, but I can't just drop 100 pounds in 3 weeks, I am currently working on losing the weight (down 20 pounds) but it's going to take some time, and for now this is a great option for me to still be able to visit family that lives out of state that I haven't seen in years!
Hi! Thanks so much for watching and commenting on this video! We are happy it was helpful! Have a great time visiting your family! We too understand that losing weight is the best option (we are each on our own heath journey as well). BUT in the meantime, people of any size should feel comfortable and safe while traveling. For us, this policy opens up so many doors and we have traveled more in the past year than ever before. Well wishes and safer travels to you!
❤❤❤❤ Thank you Josh and Michelle for this video Again! Due to this video I was fully prepared for my southwest experience being a person of size ! Your review was to the tee . I also had wheelchair service and Southwest did that beautifully! Thank you as well as answering all my questions one on one !
I absolutely agree you should get the space you need! It’s helpful for people like me as well. However, as an autistic person, I find that I also need more space than is allocated to the average passenger. I have trouble with unwanted touch and already take a lot of medication to mitigate the stress. This policy should be expanded for people with disabilities or medical needs for extra space, such as issues like mine, or needing room for a service dog or mobility aid.
We have flown another airline but back in 2017 when we were both smaller in size. It was American and we did not purchase an additional seat but it was a tight flight and I was crunched in the middle. Hope that helps! Thanks for way!
Always enjoy your Vlogs, hope to see you both on a cruise one of these days. I bought a seatbelt extender through amazon you have to search for one specifically for Southwest and so glad i did. I always had to make sure i ask for one right away when flying because they go quick and no longer had to do so. Again love your vlogs!
I just came across a video talking about the customer of size policy from Southwest. I have always known about this. I don’t know why there are people who don’t know about this. Then they get mad when other customers use it. I enjoy your channel and videos keep it up.
Hope this isn't rude to ask, but for point of reference, what do you weigh Josh? I'm about 350, just wondering if It would be around the same or similar fit in the seats. As well as seatbelt extender, etc.
Josh carries most of his weight in his midsection. It would probably be dependent on how you carry weight. You will probably have a similar fit but you might have an easier time fitting. I would still recommend a seat belt extensor. Josh is also 5’10” for reference. Hope that helps!!
Thank you! I greatly appreciate this video. It has relieved me of tremendous anxiety and I will be flying Southwest now. Can you please tell me if you purchased a ticket that came with pre-boating like their business class option? Or did you buy an anytime or wanna get away ticket, and still accessed pre-boarding because the person of size policy? Thank you.
We always buy the “wanna get away” tickets and simply buy an extra seat. There are directions on the website - it’s just the person’s full name who is buying the extra seat plus “XS” after their middle name. So happy this video helped you! Happy traveling!
So Josh purchased the extra seat. I’m assuming your seat was booked under the same confirmation number. When he boarded early due to the extra seat, were you allowed to board early as well?
Anyone that pre-boards can bring 1 person to assist them. We flew yesterday and there was a gentleman with pre-boarding flying without a companion. He picked some random person to board along with him.
When do u request money back from the extra seat? After the 1st flight or after the last one when doing a round trip? Trying to plan ahead. Thanks for all the great information.
Previously we’ve always gone to the counter. Because we pre-purchase the seat we had a gate agent tell us we could self check in. That’s what we did this time with no issue. Hope that helps!
Yeah i get very anxious and self conscious 😢 so, thank you for this video. I'll be flying Southwest on December second and I'm a wreck. We have no funds for a second seat and so that makes it worse for me.
My advice would be to get to the airport a bit early and ask the agent right away for a second seat. Hopefully they’ll be able to help you out! I get very anxious and nervous too but everyone on southwest has been amazing. It’s opened up a whole new traveling world for my husband and I! Safe travels and I’m sending good/peaceful vibes your way ☺️
We haven’t had the issue yet… Although we will have the issue in July when we have a 5 hour flight. We have a flight in May that is short but I’m hoping planning to do a full airplane bathroom review then. Stay tuned!
I have not flown in many years. I am almost 6 foot tall and weigh 260 pounds. Does anyone have a guess about me being able to fit in a standard economy seat?

Great vid! You always have me rolling telling the story of the lady wanting to sit in the middle of you 😂
I always struggle with those luggage tags! 😂 thanks for sharing this info!
Awesome video, Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips!
Wow, responsible fliers? Nicely done! And being respectful to other passengers. I have mad respect for this couple.

Great video guys!!! Have you guys flown any other airlines? If so, what ones and how was the experience?

Thank you for this video. I was curious as to how this would work even though I no longer fly Southwest. You two are wonderful!

@@AdventuresAhead yes, that helps, thank you very much.

Do the extra seat document that suppose be in seat be printed out i didn't see you print it. Do you get it from gate agent?
Hello. It printed out at the same time as our ticket. Hope that helps!
Southwest’s 737 are narrower in the front and then taper out. So the seats in the first 5 or 6 rows are narrower than the seats further back.
I flew using Southwest’s customer of size policy. I had a wonderful experience!!!!!! I couldn’t recommend Southwest enough to my fluffy friends 😀
So Josh purchased the extra seat. I’m assuming your seat was booked under the same confirmation number. When he boarded early due to the extra seat, were you allowed to board early as well?

Thank you for responding

I do it after the entire trip is complete
Great video, definitely erased my mind a bit.
Can you order that extra seat on line, when you book the regular seats. Or do I need to call and do everything on the phone??
There are instructions on the website how to book extra seats online. I typically follow those and that’s how we do it!
I see older videos that state we have to go to the counter to get your passes when using COS. Is this no longer the case?
Previously we’ve always gone to the counter. Because we pre-purchase the seat we had a gate agent tell us we could self check in. That’s what we did this time with no issue. Hope that helps!
Can both of you pre-board with only one extra ticket purchased?
Yes. The pre-board person is able to take a companion.
Great video guys! Hey have you flown spirit at all? Been looking at them out of Detroit, wicked cheap yo! Have a great rest of your day! 👍 💯
We have not flown spirit but I should look into it. Thanks for the tip!
Also, looking forward to seeing y’all in February!!
@@AdventuresAhead Hey 👋 Actually, we switched our cruise. Going in April. Have a great trip peeps.

on a upside.....you can check 6 bags
What do you do about the restroom on longer flights? I’m nervous about it.
We haven’t had the issue yet… Although we will have the issue in July when we have a 5 hour flight. We have a flight in May that is short but I’m hoping planning to do a full airplane bathroom review then. Stay tuned!
What reason do you give southwest for asking for the refund?
I always say that we utilized the customer of size policy and we have had any issues. Hope that helps!
Great information!
I'm 6'3 220 and my arms are over the next seat. I prefer window but I have nowhere to put my arm.
I have not flown in many years. I am almost 6 foot tall and weigh 260 pounds. Does anyone have a guess about me being able to fit in a standard economy seat?
You will be fine
what size is your husbands pants and shirts not tryna be mean just seeing if i need an extra set also
What about bathrooms, are they accessible for people of size?
Honestly, we haven’t used the restrooms on a flight but we have another flight in February and will do an updated video!
