Great camera i use it on my new channel
Hybrid Shooter is best camera and gimbal reviewer on RUclips. Great work.
Thank you!
@@TheHybridShooter True!
I found that the wide aperture lens gives you just the tiny necessary amount of bokeh to make it look cinematic and not smartphone like. That’s why I never bought the RX100VII, because I don’t like the videocam/smartphone look with almost indefinite depth of field, while shooting video. Tossed into my pant pockets and I always have a video powerhouse with me, with decent audio on top. Also wide aperture helps of course with low light, a second difference to smartphones and the RX100VII.
I generally agree, although it is a matter of preference.
A real reviewer that just doesn’t focused on the video concept of the camera but photography too THANK YOU 🙏
Great information, thank you. I am still thinking of picking one of these up for the sharp focus alone.
You're welcome, that AF system is indeed the best on the market.
Another wonderful review as usual!
Thank you!
This is a terrific, honest, and practical review. Thank you!
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
I have an a5100 that I've had for years but this is tempting. Mic input is my most wanted feature and the ability for the screen to face you.
It is a good choice in that case, although A6100 also very good, if you already have some lenses.
Great review! You should consider doing a review on how you colour grade, it looks fantastic 👌🏽
08:09 system overload 😅
Yeah, that required a couple of attempts.
Great review - and finally one that is not focusing on talking head vlogging. There is no much creation to be done that does not involve showing one’s face all the time and that still requires a easy to bring camera that produce high quality. I’m getting one of those for sure!
Every time I want to know literally everything about camera I just watch your videos.
Thank you! I'm glad that my videos are useful.
This is a very well paced excellent review. Impressive!!! Thank You.
Thank you!
That's a sexy looking little device. Loving how all these competitors are finally listening to quality of life complaints across the board. Like USB Type-C.
Whoops. Spoke too soon after watching the end of the video. The selfie-view screen and mic port bits are pretty nice though.
great i hope this review was arriving soon
I’ve been debating for the last few months if I should purchase this and I think this just sealed the deal for me. Thank you. 🙏🏾
Big tip: If you get the Small Rig for the camera it lets you mount it on the tripod more in the center so you have access to battery with no problem and lets you mount more on it and strap too. Ive been debating for a while about the camera too and i think its a good choice. I wanted to wait for the rx100 8 but i don't think that one is gonna beat the price of this one or will even have the aperture of 1.8.
ARMANDOO Thanks man. For the price this camera is a steal. When it was first announced I thought for sure it was gonna be $1,200 bucks.
dragonfist25 i just bought it! And dont say that! Lol dont want sony to raise the price! Lol HE’S KIDDING SONY! I think the price its ok to be honest. I wish it had a 18mm to 70mm but im sure the next one will.
@@armando.visuals Nice man! I'm curious to see how photos look because I'm a photographer first. Would you be willing to post a few simple photos? I can send you my IG.
dragonfist25 yeah no problem. Im more video than photo but i can try.
My IG: armandoo_osuna send me a message. I think im gonna eventually get Luminar4 for photos since is user friendly.
Glad you changed your mind and picked up the ZV1. I always appreciate your reviews and I have been looking at this camera for a while but I wanted to get your take on it. This might be my Osmo Pocket and A6XXX combo replacement.
Thank you, but I just got an offer to borrow a review unit. I am not a target group, so I didn't buy one.
Actually I was looking for that red watch...
That would probably be too off-topic on this channel. Maybe in the future.
Good review. Were the video shots across the river done with a gimbal or handheld? And was that with Active stabilisation or standard?
Great review!
Thank you!
Hybrid, I am convinced. I am looking at the ZV-1 for product videography but I haven’t found any significant videos that show object tracking or it’s focus ability to stay in focus on objects when mounted on a slider pushed in at 1080 60p or 120p to speed ramp in post. In other words: a relatively faster push-in rate. In 24p you have to use a motorized slider set at its lowest speed to achieve a smooth shutter and focus effect to speed ramp but if the ZV-1 can keep focus very well at hand speed it could very well prove to be a major significant tool for product videography.....especially with its color profiles and saturation (which is paramount for product presentation) Awesome video as always👍🏻😊 Any feedback on this subject would be helpful in my buying decision. I’m a big fan of 1” point-n-shoots and I am really impressed with my LUMIX LX 10 for its lowlight capabilities and usefulness as a narrative and cinematic abilities, but it isn’t suited for all occasions whereas the Sony could be the other half of the ultimate kit (along with a couple action cams)
It can keep focus, but all of these smaller cameras have some amount of focus breathing, so it will never be a perfect solution. It depends on what is good enough for you.
The Hybrid Shooter thanks for your help.
I was waiting for this 😉👌 dilemma between small apsc + good lens or fullframe with small lens (lower image quality) orr... just go with zv1 or rx100 😅
As an rx100 user with interchangeable lenses, the rx100 is amazing and provides top notch quality, but I feel it's too fragile. I treat my equipment like they are gold, and ive still broken both a g7x mark ii and sony rx100. The retractable lens broke on both and needed a repair.
My nikon d3200 lasted like 5 years without a hickup. Both my mirrorless systems required repairs.
is the zv1 better than the rx100 vii?
It is different package for different type of use.
@@TheHybridShooter I've been searching on youtube for a proper comparison but can only find comparisons for older rx100 models. My main concern about the zv1 is that it doesn't have a flash for night photography.
@@AlexanderXtcSlayin Integrated flash on this type of cameras is useless anyway, so I wouldn't be concerned about that.
Great review thanks - im thinking of getting one for the catalyst browse stabalisation. But I didn't realize the screen dims in 4K, this will make those shots difficult to frame.
Hello, my friend! Thank you again for your informative, clean style reviews. Have you ever used the Panasonic LX10? If so, how do you think it compares with the Sony equivalents?
This is much better camera than LX10, which has very poor autofocus, old sensor and huge 4K crop.
@@TheHybridShooter Thank you, my friend. I'll keep this in mind. I like my LX10, but the AF isn't that great, and I prefer the colors and metering of my Sony RX0. I'll give some thought to the ZV1.
Good camera,I just did a vlog road trip from Orlando to Miami I love it 😁
I want to get the camera just for vacations photography because is light smal and you can fit it in your pocket and shoot better from your smartphone
How is the video quality in terms of details compared to a a6600? I know the a6600 is obviously better but is the difference huge? Thanks
Yes, the difference is quite big, depending on the lens.
@@TheHybridShooter and compared to a smartphone such as the iphone 11? Thank you for the speedy reply!
That is very complicated topic that would require 15 min. video to explain, so I am not able to answer that.
I know I'm a bit late... Great review as always! But one question - hope you can help: what's the easiest and fastest way to switch between photo and video? Custom presets? Pushing the mode dial, selecting video, selecting shutter speed priority is quite annoying, i guess... Any idea??
Not really, I do the same, I just use aperture priority or full manual.
It would be really useful to see how the active stabilization video works along with a gimbal, and what would the smallest gimbal be for the zv1. And comparison with a cheaper alternative like the Canon G7x iii, its digital stabilization for is pretty remarkable when set to “high” (I understand that zv1 has superior optics but also the price)
I have shown that in RX100 VII review: bit.ly/SonyRX100VIIreview
Great Video! Very Detailed. TY
Really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much! xxXxx
Great video and love the naturalness of everything. Can there be a possible giveaway for this camera? Really interested in filming videos myself
Thank you, no, there will be no giveaway.
Hello, wonder if this camera is weather sealed or has any kind of sealing to keep dust and moisture away? Otherwise, it would be useless to put in a pocket unless it is very clean!
How are photos in evening/night or on a cloudy day?
Fuji systems are good, big sensor too but X-T30 is not small enough to be carried in a pocket (be it the pocket of a coat or a jacket).
Hi, great review as always. Does it shoot in slow motion? How many FPS? Thanks
Thank you! Yes, it shoots up to 240 fps, all mods are described in the specs.
thank you for the review! what town was shown here? Q: 1) is there a rolling shutter effect when panning? (on my Samsung S8 it makes it almost unusuable 2) I am concerned about most of the controls located in the menu (not external dials for exposure), was it easy to get used to? for example I tried Canon M50 and did not like the way menu and controls work (I am used to DSLRs and phones, haven't had a compact camera yet). However focus seems indeed amazing!
It is Bratislava. There is almost no visible rolling shutter. The menu system is not great as you can see in the video.
We have the new IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, small size, perfect for ZV1, can we send you one to you to play with?
Thanks for the review. How do you feel the video quality is compared to the smaller micro four thirds cameras like EM5 iii or GX 85/9. I'm tempted by the ZV1s smaller size l.
You're welcome! It is quite similar, but it also depends on a lens. ZV-1 is more convenient for 4K video due to no crop.
Thanks for the review of the ZW-1
You’re welcome, thank you for watching!
Hi, could you recommend which one would be an better choice and why : Sony zv1 or Sony zv-e10?
Both are good choices, they are cameras from different categories, so I can't compare them directly.
Can you make a review about the sony 16-55 2.8G?
Unfortunately, I can't.
Hello, how does the camera shoot timelapse, produces a finished video?
Not an expert on cameras but can you shoot in log in order to post process it with color grading in your editing software? :)
Yes, but I don't recommend using log unless you are expert. Especially not on ZV-1.
Stuck between m50, sony zv-1 and sony 6100. Still not sure which one?? Which u recommend for sit downs and some walk around vloggin. Thanks !
Sony A6100.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks! Jus before I came to the conclusion of the ZV1 before your comment. Ughhh. We'll see. Like the a6100 and the quality of the vids and camera but like the price and easiness of the Z. Anyway. Time to decide soon. lol. Grateful also I even have these optionS. Peace...
Excellent review., thank you.
Thank you!
Beautiful flowers and nice gopro
Hey there! If you have to choose between rx100m7 and zv-1 for strictly travel/cinematic footage, which one would you choose?
Depends on the focal range that you prefer. I still prefer wider aperture and 24mm on the wide, so I would with ZV-1.
The Hybrid Shooter i’m pretty new to video/camera so seems i gotta find out my prefered focal range then :) But thanks for thr reply i really appreciat it!
How to take photo
Hey, i need a camera to record video for longer time say approx 1 hour.
so can you suggest me that in practical sony camera can do the job ?
and in between zv1 vs a6400, which one is more better to record indoor videos ( 45-60 mins )
A6400
Is there animal eye tracking ?
Can i leave this on all day if it's plugged in and use it as a webcam? I have meetings all day long. Thanks.
Why not just use a USB Webcam?
Yes, if you use a dummy battery
Can you limit the low light autogain?
If you mean set maximal auto ISO, yes, you can.
Hi, great video as always. Can you help me with choosing the right camera for video mainly, please? Fujifilm XT-30 or Lumix G90?
That is difficult question. If you are considering G90, I highly recommend G9 instead, that is much better camera. X-T30 is very compact and it has the best stills / video quality in class.
@@TheHybridShooter Thank you! I need compact body, so Fuji it is :) Even though that stabiliser is quite nice on Lumix..
Is it worth it to get the Sony RX100 vii still? Or do i wait for the mark 8?
There is no information available about VIII, so I can’t help with that.
Are u using a particular Lut on the edition ??
No, I don't use any LUTs.
How long does the battery last?
About 75 min of continuous video recording. Realistically about half day of average usage.
Hi! What is the lightest point and shoot camera that has usable cinematic video with flat color profiles?
This one, although it depends on your definition of usable cinematic video, there isn't rally any point and shoot camera that can shoot cinematic video.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks for your answer! I don't mean cinematic in the sense of a cinema camera. But I want a wide dynamic range and a flat profile that I can color grade. Something that would be the closest to a mirrorless camera yet much lighter. The lightest possible. I would also expect a better video than a go pro for example. (this one is too heavy...)
If you want high DR and footage suitable for color grading, get at least APS-C camera.
Cameras of this size are not suitable for that.
@@TheHybridShooter ok I'll check this out! Thanks for the advice!
Great review. It is so sad that Sony has not taken this camera and made a super size version, should be similar size like the Richo GR camera. That is in my view the perfect compromise of APS-C sensor size, battery life, pocket friendly for your jacket etc. Richo cameras are great for street photography but not for video. I have been looking a long time for a great combo camera but seem to end up with the, Gopro for video and APS-C DSLR for photo combination.
Thank you! APS-C sensor, GR size and ZV-1 video specs are very contradicting requirements, which is the reason why such camera doesn't exist.
@@TheHybridShooter yeah I guess so. Anyway thanks for a great review.
can you plug in external battery pack to charge while using? - WW
Yes...But only with the original battery that comes in a box... Third part batteries don't work with power bank
Can I steal your glasses, those look dope, LOL
Is there purple fringing at 24mm?
No, there are no significant issues with aberration.
@@TheHybridShooter That is good news. Thanks!
Nice vidéo man :) I prefer my em1 mark 3 by the way
Thank you! Those are completely different types of cameras, not directly comparable.
Clip quay quá đẹp
I just got this camera for my youtube videos and it's great, but it has it faults.
Never seen a camera lose market value so quickly. I think DJI pocket 2 will be better
Pocket 2 is completely different type of camera, not comparable with ZV-1. It is ony 100 USD cheaper because of the cashback in some parts of the world.
Prefer my RX100 VA, if they did a ZV-1 without the big mic, included the pop up EVF and made it weather sealed. It would practically be the perfect small camera. AKA RX100 VIII, bring back the F1.8 lens from the Mk5.
I much prefer ZV-1 over VA, especially the real time Eye AF in video is a big improvement, hot shoe is also more useful for me personally.
I agree👍🏻 There really is no such thing as a great built-in camera mic so it is kinda pointless to waste that space that could be utilized better. Heck, GoPro has a perfectly suitable mic that is muffled by water proofing in a miniature action cam. Granted the ZV-1 sounds decent for a camera of its size but it’s usefulness in a line up of importance is at the bottom of the barrel (especially when they gave it a 3.5 jack and a hot/cold shoe) Make room for a headphone jack Sony!👍🏻
@@TheHybridShooter Horses for courses. Fully dependant on the user and situation. I don't use my cameras for portrait photography so eye detect is not important for me and I don't really use video either. I'm all about still shooting, landscape, architecture etc.
It's nice that Sony are giving us options though.
My next Sony must have a decent stabilization and it must be compatible with catalyst browse. (also 4k50 because FHD on Sony is crap)
I own a RX100 M4.
@@betonscheitel8635 You will probably have to get A7S III in that case. FHD on Sony is not crap, you just need to change sharpening settings, I have made a video about that.
Bratislavský hrad :D
Great review however i dont agree with the conclusion where u recommend this crap camera. Rather wait for zv2 with 20 to 50 lens and usbc.
That is a bit a contradicting statement. There is no indication that ZV-2 will exist of what lens it would have.
I own the ZV-1 and it’s definitely not crap. It’s an awesome little camera. Yes, a wider-angle lens and USB-C will make it even better.
Georgian flag on 4 minute
Probably an embassy.
An excellent review, just like the best reviews during “the hype”. However, I was disappointed, considering the video title, that there was zero attention paid to the things that were being hyped back then, and a discussion about whether or not the hype was justified. Specifically, the on-board audio, the defocus button, and the Product Showcase button.
Personally I think Product Showcase was an incredibly useful innovation, the defocus button is nice but far from essential (and mostly there to impress the hipsters), and the on-board audio is not good enough to replace an external microphone. I thought the hype about the defocus button was immaturity at its finest as it is so easy to do without the button, but the button was nice in collecting adjustments to aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and ND filter into a single button push. Not essential, but nice to have.
But modern AF tends to fight efforts to focus on anything other than faces and eyes, and the capability of changing AF to zone-focussing with proximity priority is something needed on all cameras, not just for products, but zone/proximity AF, having used it, is so much faster and smoother than manually setting a focus point, it makes me wonder why this idea hasn’t been adopted before now. Where the hype got it wrong, is that it is so useful for many things other than just product vlogging.
The problem with hype based on marketing material from a company is that it tends to highlight things that are not all that great (like the on-board mics) or obscure the true value of a feature such as Product Showcase.
The hype also obscured the fact that they halved the shooting time for high frame rates. Reviewers bought the Sony marketing BS of “incredible that it can do up to 960fps like the RX100 VII”. What they didn’t seem to notice is that on the RX100 VII it shoots high frame rates for a much more useful 4 to 7 seconds, while the ZV-1 inexplicably crippled it by reducing that to 1 to 3 seconds. A one second window makes it very difficult to get the action you want to shoot, and 3 seconds is only possible by reducing quality.
Given the title of this video, I was expecting these kinds of hype issues to be discussed, but no, it was just a plain review. A good one, but one that failed to address the madness of the initial hype-period, and relook at them with a post-hype viewpoint.
I have exactly opposite view on that. "After the hype" in the title means following my usual review format and discussing what is IMO the most important for the viewers on this channel, without getting distracted by the hype. That is exactly why I haven't talked about hyped features in this video.
The Hybrid Shooter Then perhaps “after the hype” would have been better said as “without the hype”. Having said that, it still seems strange to avoid features that are going to be used on a daily basis by a high portion of users, and are probably the main reason for purchase for a lot of people. Giving them a real-world view of their actual value when stripped of the Sony marketing hype would be useful for them. The product was definitely the focus of some ridiculous levels of breathless excitement. The Sony marketing department did a stellar job of shovelling the hype deep and wide.
I am happy with "after the hype" so I have no intention to change that. As I wrote, I follow my usual format and I acknowledge that this is not the only ZV-1 review on the internet, so unlike with ISO or DR testing, you can find about those features in every other review.
