Love this collaboration! "Vincent" is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.
Home Free also collaborated with Don on "American Pie".

I've always loved this song and Home Free managed to make me love it even more. Bonus, we get to hear Adam's sweet voice. And, Rob! Wow! Don still sounds wonderful. Thanks for the Home Free reactions

When you commented on Rob and Austin singing together, it was actually 3. Don McLean was also singing, making it a trio. Their voices were a perfect blend.

This song is written by Don McLean about Troubled artist Vincent Van Gogh who committed suicide at the age of 37. My hubby of 52 years is Vincent and is a painter. I have had a recurring dream that Home Free did this song, now my dream has come true. Before listening to the original, google Vincent van Gogh. The words will make more sense if you do.

Not to mention that he just heard the original. Collaborations with Home Free always focus on the guest artist. I swear, the Home Free men have no ego when it comes to collaborations.

This is from Don McLean's American Pie album, released over 50 years ago. I listened to it many times as a teenager and it still brings tears to my eyes. To really appreciate the lyrics, you need to know the story of Vincent Van Gogh whose paintings are shown in the background.

When they collaborated on "American Pie", it was done separately during the Covid lockdowns. It was so good to see them able to actually sing together. Don McLean is a masterful lyricist - poetry set to music. Home Free's harmonies are incomparable and they are the perfect collaborators - always respectful of other artist's vision of their music.

Don Mclean wrote this as a tribute to the tragic life of the artist Vincent Van Gogh. His genius was never appreciated until after his death. His most famous painting was Stary Night. And those were all his paintings in the background as they sang. Beautiful song. Thank you for reacting to it.

An iconic song from the 70s. It's quite impressive that Don invited Home Free to back him on the re-release of both of his most iconic songs. The other one they did was American Pie. They also back him on the title track on his new album, American Boys. There's an audio-only video on Don's channel. It's a bop.

In this particular song, they are just using the guitar without additional percussion. We are hearing those wonderful harmonies in the background. Rob's voice reminds me of a young Don McLean. The added touch of the shifting paintings behind them is mesmerizing and helps tell the story. The finale was as each one of them froze before being put into a painting.

Amazing that Don still has that magical voice after all these years. This song is so sad, knowing how Van Gogh suffered and that he died never knowing acceptance, much less success, in the outside world. If he'd even had some sense of his own greatness I guess he wouldn't have despaired. That's the worst of it.

This is truly phenomenal! What a voice Don McLean still has! Wow. And of course Austin also sang great, but Rob's voice is just perfect for this song. His voice so warm, soft as silk and full of emotion. The quiet background vocals and guitar playing complete it for me. It's the same song as my youth, but with the Home Free twist it's something different. A beautiful song where I, of course, as a Dutch person, know the history of the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh well. I lived not far from his birthplace for a while. If I could, I would have given Don McLean and Home Free a bouquet of sunflowers in memory of Vincent. The sunflower one of his most famous paintings 🌻......

Great reaction, Greg! Loved this song back in the 70s and this new version still brings the feels. (Some speculate that Van Gogh may have struggled with bipolar and/or schizophrenia.) Don sounds amazing, no indication of his age in his vocals. And we get to hear a bit of Adam, the beatboxer, with his soft tenor backing silky Rob and Austin. Rob is a perfect complement to Don, very similar voice, and Austin has that natural 'cry' in his tone which suits this subject. Speaking of Austin (reddish hair w/bun), you may not be aware that he is leaving HF this fall, after their current US tour. (He got married last year, wants to be home, start a family.) HF will be looking to add a new member so enjoy these five while you can. If you happen to watch again, look for the subtle animation in the background paintings when they're singing.

I’m amazed at how skillfully Don McClean wove the subjects of so many of Van Gogh’s works into his beautiful lyrics and made them tell a story as a set. In this song, at least, Don McClean is every but the artist that Vincent Van Gogh was. Lucky for him, and unlike Vincent, the people of Don’s time appreciate his art.

He speaks of Vincent Van Gogh. Do some research on who this iconic master artist was. Look at one of the masterpieces he named…. “Starry Starry Night”. For me, the original by Don Mclean is the BEST, tho. Vincent Vann Gogh killed himself. He died, broke, yet today, his masterpiece paintings are priceless.
