- Fuchsia hanging baskets are perfect for shade and low-sun patios, porches, and yards. They attract hummingbirds and provide vibrant color and an eye-catching droopiness. Today's video takes a journey with Andy through purchasing the hanging baskets at McLendon's Hardware, the process of setting them up, and then several ideas, tips, and tricks for a long-lasting beauty for your backyard (or wherever).
Some of the focus questions:
- How to make fuchsia plants continue to flower throughout the growing season?
- When to fertilize fuchsia baskets?
- How much water do fuchsias need?
- Comparing fuchsia starts with store-bought baskets

Beautiful setup
Thanks
Yes we should all have a greenhouse :)
I want one eventually!
Thank you for making this video. Very useful information. Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Loved your video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you
You are welcome. And, I was just trimming with scissors the seed pods this week quite a bit to keep the flowering going. It's a bit of a chore, but will make a difference in the color you receive!
Nice video!
Thanks, I am still learning a lot about these flowers, and I love what they do in my low-light areas!
What type of Miracle Gro? What is the NPK? I have at least two kinds. Thank you for this video. It was super informative.
I believe that the stuff I use is a 24-8-16. It is the all-purpose Miracle Grow, although I do not have the box anymore.
Hello and thank you, can you show where to cut off dead blooms please. Thank you!
I will try to in the near future. For now, once the flower is starting to approach its end, there will be a bulge just above it where a seed pod will start to grow. I try to cut all these off as they start bulging to keep the plant's energy focused on more flowers and not seeds. I just trim it with scissors.
Thank you !!!
What is the # on your fertilizer. I have 20-20-20. Is that ok to use for them.
I think what I normally use is 24-08-16. I think your mix would also work, but you might double check with your local nursery.
Thanks. What kind of soil mix do you use for your containers. Somebody recommended DR. Earth potting soil but wasnt sure, any thoughts? Thank you in advance
I don't have anything that I am highly loyal or sold on, but often I use Miracle Grow because it is sold at my local Costco. I am sure Dr. Earth would work fine. The key is the fertilizing each week or so, staying out of the direct heat of the day, and adequate water.
@@backyardadventureswithandy Appreciate your response, I'll take your advice thanks again.
I have always loved fuscias. Had a hard time finding onethisyear but brought one home a week ago. I reported because it needed it. Nowthere are no flowers. I'm reading that the flowers only bud on new growth and to pinch them back. I've never in the past bothered with pruning them and they were loaded with flowers spring through fall. I'm really remiss about trying to cut this back. I'm not even sure what a new bud looks like and I've been searching. Any advice?
I have two baskets that are quite large and full of life, however the flowers have not started yet. The good news is that they are just starting to grow the little buds that turn into flowers, so I know they are coming. I would recommend letting them continue to grow and the flowers will come!
Kroger has them for $ 14.99
Thanks! I see periodic sales, too. Sometimes, these are similar, but often they seem to be smaller or have less in the basket. I'll have to stop by the store and see if they have a steal of a deal going on. It sure is nice buying flowers that are already going nuts!
Too much talking, not enough walking!,
Sorry...I do see this sometimes, but anyway, thanks for watching!
