    The XTOOL A30M OBDII diagnostic scan tool is probably the best value scan tool available today. This Automotive scanner has the most functionality, including bidirectional control and ABS brake bleed, for the least amount of money on the market. It's an OBDII dongle that works along with your portable smartphone or tablet. It can be an Android device, or an APPLE product..... Either way this device will work with your existing phone, tablet, iPad, etc. Unlike other OBDII dongles that require annual subscriptions per make/model, or annual subscriptions to enable certain scan tool functions, this scan tool has FULL FUNCTIONALITY for the life of the device. It also includes LIFETIME FREE software updates. Once you buy this scan tool, you will never pay another penny to continue using it. It's purchase price, compared to it's functionality makes it the best value on the Diagnostic scan tool market today..... Then, consider that it costs nothing extra to keep the tool running and up to date pretty much makes it a no-brainer.
    The software that you download onto your portable device is called “ANYSCAN by XTOOL” and it’s the same software that is found in their high-end top tier scan tools. The user interface that appears on your phone is exactly the same user interface that appears on XTOOl’s $1200+ pro level diagnostic scan tools. Using this A30-M scan tool with my Samsung Android tabled (as shown in this video) gives me exactly the same user experience as using my XTOOL D8 or D9 scan tool.
    I have reviewed other OBDII dongle scan tools in the past and not only did they charge a fee for everything, the mobile version that appears on the smartphone looks nothing like what would appear on their dedicated scan tool devices. The software was extremely clunky to use, not very intuitive, and even somewhat confusing. That is NOT the case with this new A30-M….. This thing works smooth and perfect!
    Within only a few minutes, you can have this tool up and running on your mobile device, and scanning a vehicle for codes. However, once the software is installed on your device, I do recommend checking for, and installing any available updates to be sure your new tool and software are fully up-to-date and functioning at their best. The amount of time it takes to download and install updates depends on the total number of updates, the speed of your device, the speed of your internet connection, the amount of traffic currently using XTOOL’s web server, etc ,etc.
    This A30-M scan tool is not like the other OBDII dongles that came before…. This tool is the real deal! It’s very powerful, it has tons of functionality, it has an affordable purchase price, it has a two year manufacturer’s warranty, it includes free software updates, and it’s very intuitive and easy to use. The dongle itself is fairly small…. It’s like having a pro-level scan tool in your pocket. This thing would be great for road trips across the country. You never know if/when you’re going to break down on long road trips. This tool will always be in my glove box. Hopefully if I have it, then I will never need to use it on my road trips. Lol.

      Well thank you! This OBDII dongle scan tool is honestly the best OBDII dongle that I have ever used. In fact, just the other day I sampled another OBDII dongle from another manufacturer and it was TERRIBLE. In fact, I had to contact the manufacturer, who Ive worked with in the past, and their products are normally pretty good, and I had tell them I will not be making a video about their OBDII dongle because it was terrible. I did a video about the Autel OBDII dongle several years ago and it worked, it did what it was being advertised for but it was pretty bad. The OBDII dongle in this video looks and feels just like a dedicated XTOOL scan tool. You would think you're using an actual scan tool, not an OBDII dongle with your own smart device. The best part is, there are NO EXTRA fees with this tool. Once you buy this OBDII dongle, it just works at 100% for the life of the tool... There is never an extra fee for added services. Everything is included with the original purchase price. None of the other dongles that I have tried are this way. Thanks for the comment.

    Love your completeness. So many scan tool reviews do not focus on what the tool can actually do. I have owned an A30 (unfortunately not the M) for a number of years. I love it, It must be the most underrated scan tool out there. I keep it in my coat pocket so I have a scan tool with me at most times.
    I am thinking of upgrading it to the M
    Does anybody know if the M this will give me freeze-frame on BMW? (not just OBD freeze-frame , my non M A30 does not)

      Thank you, Sir! Originally when XTOOL approached me to look at their scan tools I didn't want anything to do with OBDII dongle type scan tools where you (the customer) provides the tablet or phone. They originally asked me to review this device first (A30-M) and I turned them down. I explained how I had a pretty bad experience with another (well known) brand of OBDII dongle and I didn't want to promote those on my youtube channel. That's when they had me look a their A30 Pro instead, which I also wasn't totally sure about either until I physically had the scan tool in my hands. I originally thought it was just another "code reader" (I even mention this in that video) but once I figured out it basically had full bidirectional control functionality I knew my original thoughts were wrong. So anyway.... I did reviews for all their other scan tools first, then they asked again last week if I would now like to look at the A30-M...... Well, after my own experience with XTOOL brand scan tools, and seeing other youtuber videos (like yours) about the A30-M, I said yes, let do it! And I'm glad I did. I stand by everything I said in the video. This tool probably has the MOST features and functions for the LEAST amount of money, compared to any other /make/model of scan tool on the market to day. Everyone already has a smart phone in their pocket.... you could easily keep this dongle in your glove box, and along with your smart phone you'll always have a pro-level scan tool with you. I like to take long road trips and this tool would come in really handy if/when something happens to my old truck when I'm 2 or 3 states away from home. (fingers crossed that DOESN'T happen. lol)
      Thanks again Chuck

    Great video.
    I like you mentioned a few things that it will not do. That was nice. I recently purchased an Autel MK808s. The Autel seems to be a little difficult to navigate through the software. The navigation of the A30-M looks to be a lot easier. I'm starting think maybe an XTOOL might have been a better choice.
    Exactly what all of these different models & Brands of scanners CAN and CANNOT do, is super confusing. Thanks for this informative video.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +1

      Hi, thanks for the compliments..... First, the A30-M is basically one step down from the Autel 808 that you have. I can think of a few things that the A30-M will NOT do on my GMC truck that the Autel 808 will do. So if that is the case with my vehicle, you can safely assume that will be the case on most other vehicles, too. The Autel software has been refined many times over the years and works very well. The XTOOL diagnostic software is still fairly new to the market and a bit "clunky" in my opinion but they are indeed getting better every day. XTOOL is trying very hard to make a good product. The LOOK of the menus that you see on the screen of any given scan tool is designed by the scan tool manufacturer.... The available features and functions and wording of the menus is set by the Automotive manufacturer. You could plug the same scan tool into two different make of vehicles and see two completely different things. The vehicle that you're plugged into GREATLY dictates what you see on the screen. And yes, I agree.... the scan tool market is excellent at being very vague about individual scan tool capabilities. It's very discouraging. And one last things..... if you haven't done so already.... be sure to watch my most recent video about how to enter (for free) my drawing for a Foxwell bidirectional scan tool. The entry period ends at midnight June 8th and the drawing video will be the next day on Friday June 9th. Thanks again!

    I really hope you get to see this question. I am in need of a scan tool and can't decide between A30M or D7. Ideally I would like to spend less money as possible.
    I need the scan tool to help me with two things.

      At one point the D7 and the A30M had basically the exactly the same functionality. However, about three months ago, the D7 received a major update that basically turned the tool into a D8, minus some ADAS features. So now, in late 2022, the D7 has a BUNCH more functionality than the A30M. They both always had bidirectional capabilities for truing components on and off, but the D7 now also has the ability to perform "relearn" and "reset" procedures.... like crank relearn, for example. I hope this helps. Thanks for the question.

    Love this review's completeness. Would be interesting to see a side by side speed comparison versus the D7 and D8's. I've heard this is painfully slow compared to those. I'm just wondering if the processor speed of the phone makes a difference. Seen people using low end tablets and wondering if a newer one would be faster. How old is that tablet you used? Just imagine this tool as being the same thing as the D7, but without key programming capabilities. Then, watch my D7 vs D8 video for differences between those two. That should give you a very good idea of the differences between all three devices. And yes, the processor speed in the tablet itself CAN make a very big difference in how fast the software seems to run. Low-end inexpensive Android tablets can be PAINFULLY slow just turning the device on..... let alone actually trying to open an app. lol. I had an $89 dollar Samsung Tablet from Best Buy about 3 years ago that took forever just to open a web browser. The tablet in this video is a Samsung Tab S6 (NOT the Lite version) from 2020 with 8Gb ram, & 256Gb internal storage. It was Samsung's Flagship tablet in 2020. Hi It’s Paul I appreciate your other responses on the D6 and D7.
    I don’t have a tablet, but noticed the D7 uses a old Android OS version of 5.1. New ones are up to 10 or 11, so I think that makes those obsolete or maybe soon? The newer ones you reviewed don’t show the Android OS version. All this points me to this A30. Now if you don’t mind, what is your recommendation for a mid or low priced Android tablet that works with this dongle version.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +3

      The A30M is great, and it does have bidirectional control, but it does NOT have resets and learn/re-learn procedures like the D7 now has after it received the large software update a few months ago. Previous to that update, the D7 was basically the same as the A30M. Now the D7 is a much better device. As for Android version.... you're thinking of it as a brand new cell phone, and it's not. This is a scan tool. XTOOL makes the hardware and the software. It's basically a closed system. It takes very little computing power to run scan tool software and that is all these devices are meant for. Sure, it's technically an Android tablet, and you can technically download and install any Android app you want, and having the newest Android version would be great for that situation..... but again, this is just a scan tool. And as long as XTOOL keeps selling new devices with old Android versions, their scan tool software will continue to run on that old operating system just fine. As for tablets, if you want the latest and greatest Android operating system on a decent modern tablet you're going to spend a bunch of money. For example: the Tablet in this video is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, with the highest RAM and storage that was available a few years ago and cost right around $900 bucks. That same tablet this year, the TAB S8 (I think it is) with the highest RAM and storage is like $1399. Sure, it will run on cheaper tablets no problem.... but so does the software on the D7 with it's old Android version. What I'm really saying is.... because it's a closed system, the Android version doesn't really matter like it does with modern cell phones. Your mileage may vary. Thanks for the question.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +2

      Edit: I originally thought you commented under the D7 video. I now see this is the A30M video.... I don't believe this scan tool has the crank relearn functionality. This is a terrific scan tool for the money, but the tool with the most features and functionality vs cost is the D7. Yes the D7 cost more, but at this point in 2022 the D7 is the sweet spot. Of the three different dongle type of scan tools that I have personally tried, this one is BY FAR the best. The first one I tried, which there is a video of it here on my channel from several years ago, was from Autel and it was actually pretty bad. It worked, but the user interface was VERY clunky and you had to pay extra fees for everything. The XTOOL dongle works great. The user interface looks EXACTLY like an XTOOL scan tool and it's very easy to use with NO extra fees. Once you buy the tool, it just works. Period. And recently, another brand sent their OBDII dongle to me and it reminded my of the Autel that I made a video about several years ago. It was actually really bad. I am in the process of sending it back to them and I will not make a video about it. I will keep their name private. Their other products have been very good in the past but this new dongle is NOT good. So, like I said, if you indeed want an OBDII dongle that works great, the one featured in this video from XTOOL is excellent.

I have not noticed that setting on any of the vehicles that I have plugged into. As for turning off warning lights..... it can clear the check engine light by clearing codes. However, if the problem that set those codes hasn't been fixed, the light will usually come right back on. Same goes for most other warning lights. If there is a reason for those lights to be on, that reason has to be addressed to make the light go off. Such as ABS lights, or SRS/Airbag lights, etc.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +3

      I do very little key programming so I can't really answer that question from any real personal experience. Sorry.... The speed of the scan tool software (including graphing) is also affected by the hardware in the phone/tablet. The tablet I used in this video was the highest Samsung tablet available two or three years ago. (roughly $900 bucks) It has the same processor as Samsung's Flagship "NOTE" smartphone from that year. The tablet in this video is badass and everything just flies right along! However, if someone wanted to run this software on the cheapest (slowest) Samsung tablet the software would probably be VERY slow. For example: a few years ago I purchased a Samsung 7 inch tablet from Best Buy for about $100 bucks. It was SO SLOW that it almost didn't have enough compute power to turn itself on. It was bad! I used it paired to my cell phone's hot-spot (for internet connection) strictly for Google Maps..... once I found the address and started route navigation it was okay. But getting the route setup was a major pain in the butt because the tablet was SO SLOW. you could click on a button and it would take several seconds before the tablet even recognized a touch of the screen. It would take several MINUTES just to OPEN a simple application, let alone actually USE that application. So, long story short, the physical device itself WILL affect the speed of the scan tool software. Processing power DOES make a difference! Thanks for the comment!

    nice review, when you do the live transmission test will it show any concerns on the live update or where would you find information about how the transmission is working or any problems ? Can you have the reports to view later to a tablet or phone?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +1

      By "concerns" do you mean "trouble codes"? Scan tools do not show (or point out) areas of concern, they show trouble codes set by the computer when a malfunction has been detected. There is now way a scan tool can predict future problems, or problems that are about to happen. The only thing that you can use to detect future problems is the lave data screen to view all the information that the computer can see and if you know what that data should be, then you could possibly detect a potential failure. Please don't take this the wrong way but some people are under the impression that a scan tool will tell them everything wrong with their car.... and that really is not true. A scan tool simply displays raw data to a person , and it's up to the person to decipher that data and make a final diagnosis. A scan tool is just a tool.... Reports can be save and viewed later. Reports can also be emailed from the scan tool to anywhere else. I hope this helps. Thanks for the question.

    My heat blows cold would this help me determine why ?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  7 месяцев назад

      Scan tools do not give you specific answers. It's not going to come right out and say... "Your heat blow cold because of ______". Scan tools supply the user with data..... It's still up to the user to decipher that data and then make a diagnosis. However, if I had to guess, without knowing your year/make/model of vehicle, I would say you're low on coolant. (antifreeze) That is the most common reason for a heater to blow cold. However, if this is indeed the problem, then the real question is "why is the coolant low low to begin with?" Coolant is NOT a consumable in the sense that you car does NOT use it like gasoline. My truck is 17 years old and I just drained the original coolant earlier this past fall and replaced it with fresh new coolant. You could have a leaky hose, a leaky radiator, a leaky reservoir tank, a cracked cylinder head, a cracked engine block, a blown head gasket, etc, etc. All of the previous mentioned problems will cause low coolant. Some are a cheap easy fix, some are major repairs. Do you smell the sweet smell of coolant while the engine is running and you're idling at a stop light? Do you see wet puddles of liquid on the ground below the engine compartment after being parked for a while? That should give you something to start with. Good luck..... Oh, and by the way, it never hurts to have a scan tool. The data a scan tool can supply REALLY helps to figure out problems as long as you know what that data is, or what it should be. If you take good scan tool data along with a good visual inspection, you can usually diagnose most, if not all common problems within a few minutes. Thanks for the question.

    Can it confirm the actual total milage of the vehicle that shows on the cluster to check for tampering.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +1

      That would greatly depend on the individual vehicle that you're plugged into. Some manufacturers may have the miles in the computer the same as it's displayed on the odometer, and some manufacturers may have the actual miles in the computer regardless of what is displayed on the odometer. So, the correct answer to your question is... Yes, this scan tool has the ability to display actual mileage, but does the vehicle that you are plugged into have that ability? With thousands of makes and models on the road today it would be impossible for me to answer your question with 100% certainty. Keep in mind, a scan tool pretty much acts like a window into a vehicle's computer (ECM/PCM) A scan tool can only display whatever data the vehicle's computer is sending out to the scan tool. A scan tool can not magically retrieve data from the ECM/PCM that doesn't exist to begin with. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for the question.

      The tablet is a Samsung TAB S6 (NOT the TAB S6 LITE) which they no longer make. It runs on Android... This was Samsung's top of the line flagship Tablet from 2019. They made this tablet in three versions, this one has the most RAM and storage of the three, at 256GB of storage, & 8GB RAM. It was roughly a $900 tablet in 2019. DO NOT confuse this with the TAB S6 LITE that can still be purchased today. The LITE version has a non AMOLED screen, lower resolution display, slower processor, less RAM and less storage. The tablet in this video absolutely kicks ass with zero lag.... unlike most lower end tablets that struggle to load a web page, THIS tablet is a screamer! If you were looking for the comparable tablet today, I believe the new Samsung TAB S9 is scheduled to be released on July 26th 2023 (2 days from the date of this comment) and if I had to guess, the high end version with the most RAM and storage (like the one in this video) of the S9 will probably cost around $1200 bucks. Ouch! They are very nice tablets though.... Thanks for the question.

OR, did you buy the truck new? If not, maybe someone before you removed the Automatic and installed the manual. The fact that you have paperwork from GM stating the truck was originally built (or, should've been built) with an automatic transmission makes it no surprise that the ECM in the truck reports back to all scan tools that it has an automatic. • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +1

      I believe the "range" data is actually supplied by the ECM in the vehicle. Sure, it requires those columns to be part of the scan tool to begin with, but it's the vehicle that supplies the min/max data to populate those "range columns". Honestly, off the top of my head, I don't recall which XTOOL scan tools have the "range" columns. I will specifically look for that next time I am using one. So anyway, not only does the scan tool need to be capable of "range" in live data, but so does the vehicles that you're plugged into.

      Sorry, I do not. If you look at where is says "ships by" and "sold by" you will see who the seller is on the US site. I am guessing those same sellers also sell on the UK site so as long as you see the same seller name you should be fine. But ultimately, if you're buying from the Amazon website then you should be protected by Amazon. Amazon does not knowingly allow scammers to sell on their site. Hope this info helps. Thanks.

    My truck uses Bluetooth for my cellphone. Would the Bluetooth signal from this scanner interfere with my vehicles signal?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 года назад +1

      well, you wouldn't be able to connect your truck's radio to your cellphone, AND the A30M to your cell phone at the same time. And no, there shouldn't be any trouble using this Bluetooth device near other Bluetooth devices. People use Bluetooth ear buds near other people using bluetooth earbuds (in a gym for example) and there usually isn't any problem. Thanks for the question.

      Really? Where are these terrible reviews? In the google or Apple store? That's weird because this thing works WAAAAY better than any other OBD2 Dongle device designed to work with your phone or tablet. In fact, the Autel version only works on Phones (barely) and not on tablets. This device along with my Samsung tablet absolutely kicks ass. (Disclaimer, my Samsung tablet is a high end device, I have not used this app on lower end tablets with limited processing power) Be sure to post back here and let us know how you like it once you get a chance to play with it a while. Thanks for the comment.

      I was pretty happy with this bought to supplement my Snap On in the shop. I liked it because I could generate a report and email and print it for the customer but that stopped at 10 and never worked again. The updates are ridiculous, they hang for hours with no progress. I went from happy to thinking I wasted my money pretty quickly, will update if it's fixed but for now cannot recommend this product.

      I bought this scanner because it was advertised as having "Electronic Pump Activation" among it's special functions. It did not say on the website or in the manual that it is only for 4 oddball manufacturers (Hyundai, Kia, BMW and MINI). Obviously, that is misleading. And because it is obvious, inferrably intentional.

      One week now since I bought the xtool a30m, the first car was a toyota brevis that had problems with the ABS system, after solving the problem, it required zero point calibration, but the xtool A30M failed to do so, in the case of the toyota it has no internal special function you can't do even memory reset, even doing calibration capability, today I tested on a NISSAN navara 2005 car, it wanted to register the injectors, but it failed, i.e. in short xtool a30m for Japanese cars still failed,

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад

      Scan tools only have that ability on vehicles that are programmed for that ability by the manufacturer in the first place. Mid 2000's GM vehicles were known for this because vehicles in that era were built without a proper alcohol sensor. This particular tool MIGHT show the alcohol percentage in live data, but it will not retest your alcohol composition. That would require a step up to the Xtool D7. Thanks for the question.

      This tool is missing some relearn and reset procedures. Of course, as as always, this is 100% dependent on the year/make/model of vehicle that you're plugged into at any given time. Otherwise this tool and the D7 are very similar. Thanks for the question.

      This tool is capable of displaying all live data that the vehicle it's plugged into is capable of supplying to a scan tool. It varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle. Does this scan tool specifically have an electrical system test built-in? No... But neither do 90% of the other scan tools on the market. A scan tool with built-in electrical system testing is typically not 100% accurate. Proper electrical system testing is usually done with a multi meter, and a carbon pile load tester. You can usually see alternator output in live data on this scan tool, but to properly load test a battery a carbon pile is needed. Some electronic (non carbon pile) electrical system testers have an algorithm built in to help them calculate results without a proper carbon pile but those never seem to be very accurate, at least in my experience.

    Something worth mentioning is that Xtool A30M's iOS app is useless. Doesn't have the updated interface like the Android app and freezes all the time. It's basically unusable. Better look at a different tool, If you intend on buying to use on an iPad or iPhone unless you want to waste your time and money.

      That's unfortunate to hear you're having trouble. You are the VERY FIRST person to ever post a comment about this device not working well with Apple. Seems odd that nobody else has noticed it doesn't work with Apple in the last year (roughly) since I made the video Is it possible that you're having trouble on your end? Maybe there is something wrong with your Apple device? I have no idea because I haven't owned an Apple product since the very first iPod Touch was released (this was even before the original iPhone came out) so I have no idea if it works or not. I just find it interesting that you are the only person to ever make a negative comment about using this device with an Apple product. Thanks for the comment.

      @@SlipFitGarage Well most people use it and even buy an Android tablet before they even buy the Xtool device as all reviewers on RUclips like yourself use it on Android. I'm not sure what could be wrong with my device - it's a recent iPad Air 4 from I think 2021 which works perfectly fine with everything else. We have plenty of other bluetooth devices like speakers and other stuff and it works ok. Happy to hear other reviews. I also installed it on iPhone X and the app isn't updated there. It has the old User Interface (not like the Android one) and it still freezes all the time.
      Lastly, my comment isn't negative - I'm merely trying to prevent disappointment in people hoping to use Xtool on their Apple devices.
