      Were there other added costs after you bought the tool? Did you have to purchase programs for your specific vehicle? Or pay for updates? Like the thinktool scanner you have to buy programs for your specific vehicle and pay for special functions like key programming separately making the total cost of the tool as much as an oem scan tool

    • @joelnrs
      @joelnrs 2 года назад +5

      @@Dumptrux The nice thing about this scan tool is there have been no added costs. The updates appear to be pretty frequent every week there are usually some. My A30M with AnyScan doesn't take forever. If you use it on a slow phone, or tablet, yes. It creeps on my old Samsung E 9.6 tablet. If you have a fast phone (Samsung Galaxy S9 in my case, older but fast), it's much better and is usable with Windows My Phone and Samsung DeX, which allows you to operate it from a desktop or laptop through the phone.
    I've spent much more money on scanning programs for my computers over the years, but they were not bi-directional. The A20M is a good affordable option on the way to paying for a D8 a little later on. It paid for itself in less than a month working on neighbors' vehicles.
    Thanks for posting these videos.

    My friend is an advanced DIY mechanic and he has his own mechanic shop. We already ordered one XTOOL D8 after your XTOOL D7 video. We are very delighted with what the device can do. Also, I want to mention that when the D8 is connected to a car via the OBDII connector it is charging itself. We still didn't charge the D8 with the charger that came in the box, there is no need. The updates are very frequent also... Great device overall!

    I bought a D7 earlier this week and unfortunately it’s not completely compatible with my wife’s Nissan. Special functions require AutoAuth. This worked on my Ram, but specifically not with the Nissan. Picked up an Autel MaxiCOM MK808S today and works like a charm. Very similar price to the D7 as well with a few more features.

Your videos on oil changes, transmission fluid change, how to buy original parts on less price, car buying guide, change spark plugs, break-in periods and scan tools have all enhanced my knowledge. I am not an advanced DYI mechanic but am an amateur DYI mechanic working hard to gain knowledge so that I may do all the maintenance on my family vehicles. I think D8 would be a great tool to use for buying used car besides using it for tpms id reset, key programming, live data analysis, transmission fluid temperature check and general car maintenance.

    I've been waiting for this since you did the D7. I AM AN ADVANCED DIY MECHANIC, and have been going crazy trying to figure out what my next tool will be. My Bosch 1300 served me well, but it's time to go bi-directional. It's mind-boggling. The manufactures, the models, the levels, the upgrades... there's no end to it. I don't want to cut myself short and I don't want to pay for stuff I'll never use. I drew my line at the J-box. I'm pretty much down to the D8 and the Thinktool Pros... which will soon be replaced by the Thinktool Master2. But if I go with that, then there's the question of who to buy it from. It's a shady world out there. Thank you for all you do. You're a beacon in the dark.

      I ended up with the Topdon Phoenix Plus. It's been a great tool. I paid just over a grand. This tool has taught me a lot. Mostly, how little I actually know. Now that I'm learning I see how important a scope is, so that's next. I'll probably go with Topdon again because I now trust the quality and they seem to be the most affordable. I don't make a living with these tools, so I feel like these are the top end of the DIY scale and bottom of the more advanced equipment. Kinda crazy to spend more for tools than I do for my vehicles, but I enjoy doing this stuff. Eventually I hope to make it a lucrative hobby and at least get something back. Good luck.

    Another great review ADM and I am an advanced DIY mechanic and love watching your honest reviews. I like this type video on how to use these tools. I hope you do more this. My Blue Driver works OK but it’s doesn’t have the advanced features needed to maintain the newer cars. Bi-Directional control is a game changer and needed to fix / diagnosis the newer cars. It’s sad that there are so many computers on these cars nowadays. One of my cars is a Pontiac vibe which is a twin to the matrix. The dome light is controlled by a door pin switch. On my 2003 suburban the done light is controlled by the door latch with has gears inside the latch to determine if it’s open or closed! So much complexity for something as simple as door open indicator. Keep doing these great videos and I try to never miss your videos as I’m learning new things/tips. Some more customer problem stories would be fun too as people need to understand the stress mechanics are under dealing with customers and sometimes the dealership owners! 8-). I plan to use the D8 for friends and family, to help them know when and if to take their vehicles to a professional mechanic and when it could be a DIY repair that thanks to all the RUclips instructional videos, they might be able to do themselves. The ongoing uncertainties we are all living within is putting so many people in situations where every dollar must count and be used wisely. These more advanced scan tools certainly enable advanced DIY mechanics the ability to easily and quickly assess their situation so they can make an informed decision. Keep up all the good work you are doing with your channel. If you every decide to run for office, let us all know, you'd do a better job then many of the so called professional people in office. The Thinktool has debunked far as functions vs prIce. D8 wins. The Maxisys cost around $1,300 which brings more functions. But Xtool has another level scan tool in the same price range as Maxisys and does the same things, but $200-$300 less.

  • @Chitown388
    @Chitown388 2 года назад +4

    I can see a D7 and D8 would be able to help a great deal. I started deep into car diagnoses when I got a chronic, dreaded CHECK VSC error on the dashboard. That took me into MAF, throttle body, short-term and long-term fuel trim, air-fuel ratio, fuel injection system, fuel vapor canister, fuel cap, upstream and downstream O2 sensors, catalytic converters, etc. Then that took me into all the potential tests and fixes for each of those components, from smoke test to fuel injection system clearn, paint thinner in the gas tank, etc. A simple $30 bluetooth OBDII dongle did help a great deal to pinpoint a specific error codes and idenfying potential fixes. Due to the limited BT bandwidth, the live data analysis can only be done with low fidelity and therefore, harder to pinpoint the problem.

The problem was a combination of a bad fuel cap, a broken downstream O2 sensor, and a pin hole exhaust leak at a rusted exhaust flange that's adjacent to the downstream cat. The rusted exhaust flange is a well known problem for my Lexus. Each problem was discovered incrementally throughout the 18mos drama. The biggest headache was the exhaust leak; three different shops tried welding to plug the leak but each time only fixed the problem temporarily. Thanks to a Chris Fix video, my DIY $10 JB Weld fix is lasting over a year, so far. BTW, the permanent fix is to replace the cat and the exhaust pipe that are connected together. This looks like a nice tool, but right now I've found the Bluetooth ThinkDiag to be a fantastic DIY option, and it even has some bidirectional controls as well as key programming capability.
